Masaaki jumped as the kunai landed into the tree next to him. She hadn't spotted him had she? That was much too close for his liking. He quickly hung his cloak on a nearby branch, it could serve as a good distraction and it would only get in the way if he got into a fight in the forrest like this, and crept quickly off into the forrest.

Moments later the other ninja landed a few feet from where he had been standing before. Masaaki froze. Had she really been able to pinpoint his location based off of the one arrow? That was impossible right? He let out a quiet sigh of relief as he heard her shout "Reveal yourself". Just blind luck then? He took a moment to peek out and give a quick glance at his opponent. She was a small woman, wearing the usual garb of the Tetsume clan, and her eyes were a striking shade of blue. They sent chills down his spine for a moment, before he collected himself and crept off looking for an ideal spot to attack. He positioned himself behind one of his traps, a tripwire hidden in the brush, when triggered it should release a sharpened branch at about knee level, notched another arrow and drew back his bow aiming to kill. A sliver of doubt slipped into his mind seconds before he released the arrow causing it to fly a few inches to the side of her head.
No hurry guys! I'm excited to see your characters, but I've still got a lot of work to do too!
After finishing his tea Masaaki laid out his tools. Four kunai. Check. he thought checking to make sure each was sharp before putting them in their slots on his belt. ten arrows he checked each one to make sure they were sharp and balanced before sliding them into his quiver. wakasashi. he ran it over his wet stone a few times before running his finger along the length of the blade. Seeming satisfied he slid it into its sheath at his side. Seeing everything was in order he strung his shortbow and crept back towards the cliff.

His heart skipped a beat as he saw the cart approaching, and he quickly ducked behind a bush. Damn he wasn't expecting someone quite so soon. He notched an arrow in his bow and watched. The ninja escort had spotted the traps, and put herself between him and the merchant. She was looking around warily trying to spot him. Just one? he thought. He had traps in the surrounding woods just in case another ninja was thinking of ambushing him here, but it still made him nervous. If he missed with this first shot he could reveal his position. If it was just this one ninja he could just ambush her when she came after him, but if there was another that could be a problem. He reached out with his chakra feeling the nearby vibrations in the air. Nothing. He let out a quiet sigh of relief, it was by no means a fool proof method of detection but it did put his mind at ease a bit. Feeling his confidence return he took s deep breath and slowly pulled back his bow, aiming for the other ninjas chest. He almost felt bad for her for a moment but quickly pushed those thoughts away. He let the arrow fly.
For the background it doesn't have to be a specific wizard. You don't even need to name one if you don't care if he appears in the main game. More just looking for what you did before you were sent off to the tower.
Masaaki perched atop the steep cliff overlooking the the ambush spot. His light brown cloak camouflaging him perfectly with the rocky background, and keeping out any unwanted moisture. He surveyed the traps he had set. Just some basic caltrops on the road and some simple wires. Nothing too complicated on their first ambush, just enough to stop the horses in their tracks. He hadn't even bothered to hide them. In fact he made them quite obvious to one looking out for such things. He didn't want the horses to get caught in them. How would he transport the metal back to his village then? He had specifically picked this ambush spot because it was the narrowest point in the treacherous mountain path, so that the cart could not safely turn around. If they spotted the traps in the path they would have to stop, and then he would strike.

Seeing everything was set he crept silently back to his small camp hidden in the trees Going over everything in his head again put him at ease, at least for a while longer, and his thoughts drifted elsewhere. He wondered how his apprentices were doing. If training was going fine on their own. He hoped they weren't too mad he did not bring them with him, but the village needed metal and two kids would really only slow him down. Noboru would be. He'd insist that he was ready. Hell he wouldn't be surprised if he had to be tied down. He chuckled a bit to himself as he poured himself a cup of tea and sat down to wait for the merchant.

The Crystal Tower RP

You are gently awoken from your sleep as the boat comes to a stop. You yawn deeply, taking a deep breath of cool, salty morning air, and stretch pulling yourself up into a sitting position. You slowly rub the sleep from your eyes letting them adjust to the feint early morning light. You can vaguely make out the dark shape of the ferryman, standing over you and your companions. But he is not what everyone is staring at. Before you, jutting out of the small, rocky island, stands a structure that you had only heard about until this moment. A huge crystaline tower rising up into the clouds, it's smooth surface shimmering and glowing with a feint light of a color you cannot quite place your finger on. The hair on the back of your neck begins to stand up and your heart begins to beat faster and faster. You can feel the quiet thrum of energy pulsing, and flowing through the air around this place, and slowly you come to the honest realization that this is the place where you will spend the next ten years of your life.

Welcome! This is my first attempt at running a forum game. My idea is that you are all children discovered to be able to use magic, brought to the Mages Tower most prestigious school for magic outside of perhaps the Grand Imperial College of Magic. The Mages Tower is a mysterious crystal structure that rose out of the ground nearly two hundred years ago in the middle of the great city of Amsusesh causing part of the city to break off and drift out to sea. As the years progressed the structure was investigated and found out to be hollow on the inside and set up like an actual building. There were floors and stair cases, and doors and windows. Mages begin to flock here in an attempt to be the one to discover the secrets of the tower. Well soon a small town sprung up around it, and once it was determined to be safe the mages set up a college to both study the crystal and to teach, and train new mages.

I will be playing most of the teachers and other students at the school but I will not have a character for myself. This is better for me as it will allow me to focus on giving all of your own characters their own storyline and arc. I will also be somewhat busy as I am going to school and I recently got a job, so I will have periods of absence, but I will try to post something at least every couple of days.

Rules

  1. No godmodding, remember you are in fact apprentices. I will let you get more and more powerful as it goes but at least as of now you all should be fairly weak at magic at least.

  2. I admit I do make mistakes, but if you do have a problem with something, please pm me. It will be easier for me to take criticism that way.

  3. Please do not make a character if you are going to drop it in a week or so. For my sake, I don't want to just introduce your character then have them drop

  4. I understand if things come up and you can't keep up with the game, but please tell me if you do. I don't want to be waiting around for a week for you to respond if you aren't going to.

Setting Information
Below is some information on the setting. Not all of it is important to this game in particular and I'll only request that people at least read over the stuff under the Crystal Tower, and How Magic Works sections. The rest is is extra for those of you who are interested.

Character sheet

Name: (Greek names are a good starting point. Just nothing too silly or modern)
Age: (between 10 and 12. I will not accept any older, younger ones could be negotiated though. Remember I plan to do time skips so you will age as it goes)
Appearance: (I would prefer a picture and a short description, but either works. Anime is acceptable but please nothing too crazy, particularly with hair color.)
Background: (Most of you will have been trained by someone for a year or two before being sent to the Tower. Make sure you include who that was for my sake)
Personality:
Skills: (List skills you learned outside of magic up to this point. Also list if you are best at gathering, which will mean your spells are more powerful, shaping, which means you have more control over magic, or sensing magic.)
Element: (One of the four basic elements. You will be slightly more talented at magic manipulating this, but are by no means limited to it. Not incredibly important but I'd like to know)

One extra thing I would like everyone to do once they have made a character is send me a message saying what you would like to get out of the game or what you are most excited for. This helps me make sure I give everyone what they want. It's my job as the gm to make sure everyone has fun and often times I assume someone is looking to get one thing out of a game and they actually want something completely different. This would just help me avoid that.

Unfortunately though, for my sanity and the quality of the game as a whole I may have to limit the number of players I can accept (Probably no more than 6). I will not be deciding who gets in on a first come first serve basis, as I feel this would promote putting less thought into your characters, rather once I feel I have most of the characters in, I will then pick the ones I feel are the best. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to create a character though, and if you don't get in on the first round I will still keep you in mind if someone drops out or something.

Will be continuously updating info on the setting. Feel free to pm me or post in the OOC if you want to discuss character ideas or have any questions about anything I posted. I really look forward to seeing everyone's characters!
Added a how magic works section if anyone wants to check it out!

This. Fantasy can grow to include a many great deal of things that doesn't need to be limited to just the archtypical medieval, dungeons and dragons, tolkien esque settings. My rp is fantasy based and yet includes all the wonders of swords, magics, cars, trains, phones, televisions, lasers, mechs, dinosaurs, the works. :P

While I won't argue that this would be considered fantasy it the broadest sense of the genre, and may very well capture the essence of the genre, I think it could be considered misleading if you refer to this as fantasy with no other qualifiers. Not an attack against you or your game just want to point that out.
