It was dark, and it was the way Solomon liked it. He enjoyed the darkness. He remembered little of his life before the darkness took him. He only really cared about what happened after it has spat him back out, into the shell of a body he inhabited now. The constant pain of existence ate away at him, and the mask that was fused to his face had become heavy over the centuries. He wanted rest, but in the mean time all he could do was dull the pain. Which was why he enjoyed his current home. Before he had arrived in this city, he wasn't able to indulge as frequently as he would have liked. Word tended to travel quickly when corpses began showing up mostly eaten away. But not here. The amount of people created something like an information vacumn. There was so much going on at any given moment that no one had anymore than a passing thought for a corpse, no matter what condition it was found in.

Took ill on Thursday
Grew worse on Friday

And it was a perfect environment for him. But sometimes the monotony of killing and eating the flesh would get to him. So to break up his routine, he would go on killing sprees from time to time, laughing while he did it. Something about bombs appealed deeply to him. Gas also held a special place in his heart. Something about those poor saps being so oblivious to their creeping death warmed his long dead and rotten heart.

Died on Saturday
Buried on Sunday

He didn't even need to work hard to find a lair. There was a maze of tunnels that were discarded by the people that Solomon found perfect. It reminded him of the dark tomb where he was born, cold and damp. He enjoyed the little things. He wouldn't need to eat for several hours, but he was more impatient than usual. Something was nagging at his desiccated flesh. It was the daytime, but that hardly mattered to him. Maybe he would be able to find something to entertain himself with.

“This is my scared face,” Feyd said. “You already said you weren't going to kill me. God, you really suck at this whole 'bad guy' thing. Yeah, you have the goons and you are mysterious, and the fact that you can become a Wizard of Oz character is pretty impressive. But...you can't just tip your hand like that. Plus, I know you can't kill me. You've been chasing me all damn day. You even had me passed out a few times and here I am, still alive. Think of this as...constructive criticism. Look at it as a chance for you to pull your head out of your ass and be a real bad guy.”

“Oh, now I get it. See, none of this made very much sense until now. You're just salty that the wizard didn't give you that heart you asked for. Don't worry, tin man, I'm sure you'll find true love someday, or whatever the fuck you wanted a heart for.”

Pain was second nature to Feyd at this stage of being a fire handler. He wasn't sure if anyone else's learning curve had been as difficult as his had been, but most of his training had involved accidentally setting himself on fire. And before that, he had been beaten to a pulp at least twice a week by his father. He had a trick or two up his sleeve. His ribs were still a dull, throbbing ache and the road rash that covered the entire left side of his body wasn't very pleasant, but it was child's play compared to what he had weathered before. He wasn't really scared of whatever tin man could throw his way.

Feyd had spent most of his time locked in the cell yelling about random things. He told Marcus the story about when he was young and threw a desk at one of his foster siblings, about the time he got so nervous about counting in front of the class in kindergarten that he had pissed himself, about the time he found a cat and took it home with him, but how it got hit by a car. He talked about his favorite bands, even demonstrating his non-existent singing skills to Marcus to make sure that he knew what bands he was talking about. He talked about why purple was his favorite color, and how people who said black was their favorite color were all just unimaginative douche nozzles. He discussed all of his favorite foods, went into graphic detail of his favorite sexual encounters, and even found time to explain to Marcus the virtues of being a fire eater, though Feyd would admit he cheated and didn't know how a normal person would have done it.

“YOU KNOW WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT ALL THIS? I KNOW YOU'RE TOO SCARED ABOUT WHAT I'LL DO IF YOU SHUT YOUR LITTLE WALL AND DON'T KEEP AN EYE ON ME, SO YOU HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS.”

Tin man tried to be passive, and Feyd couldn't see his face, but he could tell from his body language that he was not happy. Every time Feyd opened his mouth, he could see tin man's shoulders tighten, and a vein would pop out of his neck.

“I'M REALLY ENJOYING OUR TIME TOGETHER, YA KNOW? I FEEL LIKE WE'VE REALLY BEEN BONDING!”

The jolt of cracking off the ground woke Feyd up. He hurt even more now, if that was even possible. He looked around and became aware of the fact that there was a corpse in the room with them. At least, it smelled like there was a corpse in the room. It also looked the part pretty convincingly. His arms were lashed to his side, but his legs were free. He wasn't even sure he had the energy to move on his own without the extra weight of the chains. He just had to bide his time and wait for a chance to bolt. He felt himself slipping back into unconsciousness.
It had been such a pleasant day until that man had leaped down at him and ground his face into the road, the force of the blow causing an impact crater in the street below him. At least the sudden outburst of extreme violence had scared everyone in the immediate vicinity off, so Thufir wouldn't have to worry about anyone being caught in the crossfire. Thufir tensed his muscles and focused himself, channeling the rage that was building up inside of his stomach somewhere productive. He felt his skin tighten and begin to shift into armor. He was much heavier, unable to move as well, but the person had attacked him with a force that he had never felt, so he knew it was best to be prudent. Underestimating the opponent was at the root of so many calamities that humans have put themselves through, and Thufir saw no reason he should repeat the same mistakes that he had ample time to learn from. He stood, his dark tan skin replaced by a shiny black coat of armor, his soft green eyes changed to an almost feral shade of yellow.

He could already feel the energy coursing through his body as he stood and faced his attacker, who sneered at him.

“You should not have done that,” Thufir informed the man as he focused his energy into the palms of his hands, where it cracked and sizzled.

The focused energy began to distort the air around, like looking at something through the wrong end of binoculars. It condensed and shifted into balls of pure white, breaking the light that passed through it like a prism. He put his hands out in front of him, towards the man and pushed the energy outwards and when the tension of the power in his hands broke, a huge laser beam fired out and consumed the person who had attacked him.

Thufir knew that probably wasn't enough to kill someone powerful enough to punch him into a crater, so he waited for the next attack to come.

As soon as the chains were wrapped around him, Feyd felt like the most prudent thing to do would be pass the hell out from the combination of pain, coming down from an adrenaline rush, and pure exhaustion. This was supposed to be his off day, but it hadn't worked out like that. No matter what tin man was about to do to him, it probably couldn't put him into anymore pain than he was already in. So that's what he did. He wasn't even sure that he could have prevented it if he tried.

As he jumped steps, he heard tin man shouting something which was all the prompting Feyd needed to start blowing away chunks of the stairwell as he sprinted down them. Whoever owned this building probably had crazy people with magical powers insurance. Or at least he told himself that as he caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of collateral damage as he sprinted down the stairs. He jumped onto the next landing and his foot slid out from under him and his chest slammed against the railing, and he collapsed. He just...couldn't run anymore. He was barely able to roll himself onto his back as he heard the thundering footsteps get closer and closer. Besides, tin man hadn't killed him yet, so Feyd figured he wasn't in any sort of rush to. He had faith in himself that he could get himself out of whatever situation he was about to be drug into. He dug through his pocket for his pack of cigarettes and pulled out a pack that was crushed into the size of a dollar bill. He would have laughed at it all, but he felt like his chest would have exploded if he tried.

Feyd appreciated the warning. He was about to just blast him in the face and try to take off, but had had another plan. He stood up and stood in the doorway, the orb he built crackling the air around it.

“Thanks for the warning, bro.”

Feyd threw the orb directly above the tin man's head and the roof collapsed over him, filling the air with debris and dust. It probably wasn't fatal, but there was approximately a metric fuckton of debris burying him. Feyd took off down the hall, kicking doors open until he found the stairs, which he started jumping down two or three at a time.
