Character Origin & Backstory:
Moira MacTaggert was already a world-renowned geneticist, who, after graduating Valedictorian at University College Dublin, pioneered cures for several inherited diseases. However, after the existence of mutants was revealed to the world, Moira changed the focus of her research entirely, as one of the first to study these new beings and their extraordinary abilities.
In the gap between Seasons 1 and 2, she published a book titled What Mutants Mean for You that was an instant bestseller, detailing her belief that mutants would one day inherit the earth from humans and that this was a good thing. Rich from its royalties, she began travelling the world, studying mutants wherever she could find them, cataloguing their abilities, and keeping in contact. She has made attempts to reach the X-Men, saying she could help them understand their abilities, but she has not been able to find them. She has also begun work on a mysterious device, one about which she has revealed no details except for saying that it will change the world. Only she knows its function: turning humans into mutants. (Is that enough? I can write more.)
Powers and Abilities (What can your character do? What can't they do?): Expert geneticist. No superhuman abilities or specialized equipment.
Sample Story Arcs: Give 2-3 ideas on where you want to go with your character.
1. Moira recruits a team of mutants to form the All-Star version of X-Force or X-Factor, though she’s more interested in studying them than she is in crimefighting.
2. Moira unleashes her human-to-mutant device on the world, sparking massive controversy the world over, as many see it as extremely dangerous.
(I know both of these are really general, but I think a lot of what I have planned for this character is so far-reaching that it’ll really depend on what the GM and other players do.)
Sample Post:
Moira awoke in her Staten Island penthouse. Last night had been a late one, and part of her wanted to sleep a while longer, but there was work to be done, important work. She got up, stretched, dressed herself, brushed her teeth, downed some coffee, and headed out.
As usual, she hailed a taxi to take her to her lab in Queens. The driver this time was a middle-aged woman with tattoos, wearing a bandana and a denim vest. Moira climbed in. The driver must have seen her through the rearview mirror, for after getting the destination, her very next words were, “Hey, you’re that Irish lady who writes about mutants, right?”
“Yes,” said Moira, “t’would be me.”
“Well, I read that book of yours,” said the driver. “Reeeaaal interesting stuff. Not sure how much of it I buy, but interesting stuff.”
“I’m glad ye liked it,” Moira responded. “And I stand by every word I wrote.”
“Figured,” said the driver. “You don’t come off as the type to write something you don’t believe.” There was a terse silence the rest of the drive.
Moira got out at her destination and entered her lab. Time to set the world on fire, she thought.
