I've been on this site for two years and I haven't written a bio, but I figured it's better late than never :P
I like to play a variety of different characters, but most tend to be humans in a modern setting. I feel like I tend to relate better if they're human, and I like roleplay plots that center more around the characters themselves and character development, versus magic or some "quest" going on.
My favorite genres are modern, slice of life, horror, and a good helping of romance on the side. However, I dislike 1x1 roleplays and like for romance to be a casual side plot rather than the center of the roleplay.
I enjoy characters with unusual personalities, but are fairly normal and well adjusted. They don't need pages of backstory or personality, they just need to sound believable to me.
I started roleplaying online about 7 years ago, and I was doing tabletop roleplaying a few years before that. I still actively participate in table top games, and my interest in roleplaying online waxes and wanes.
I like to write a lot, but I find the standards in a lot of advanced roleplaying sections to be rather intimidating, so I stick to casual or free roleplays.
I (like many other people on this site), think wayy too much about their characters and their backstories. I really hope to animate one day or get my characters out to the world in a more professional way, but for now I enjoy roleplaying them and seeing how they change and develop.
Damien smiled at the sight of seeing his friend again and returned the hug, wrapping his arms around her lightly. "Hey, it's nice to see you too. I'd say that you've gotten taller, but you haven't." His smile grew even wider as he chuckled.
He saw that one girl was already finished with her plate, "Oh, did I come late? I hope there's still some left." He looked over to the dude sitting at the table, who he assumed was Zane, and asked, "You still serving?"
Damien squinted several times while trying to figure out the wall of text that Rhea had sent him - a classic Rhea response. He continued to walk and looked up and down every split second while replying to her. "Hell yea. u bttr have a full spply of sparkling water" "*better *supply" "Kind of hard to type while walkin over to your place" "but i haven't had any sicne u fuckin left after high school and went all incognito on evryone" "also they better vegan otpions" "no animal cruelty here"
He wasn't paying attention to where exactly he was going, he was just passing by the different rooms in the apartment. He paused and looked up from his phone when he heard a voice say something along the lines of "eating proper meals". Damien had a feeling this might be connected to the breakfast that Rhea was talking about. The room number matched the room she said she was staying in as well. Damien was about to knock, but then shrugged and turned the doorknob instead, walking in. "Got room for one more? Rhea said something about breakfast and I want in." He announced before pausing for a second and adding, "Oh yeah, my name's Damien by the way. Nice to meet you guys too."
Damien took a drag of his vape, he was staring at his phone screen rather impatiently when he saw Rhea's messages pop up. He placed his vape back in his pocket, exhaled, and then began furiously typing once more. "This fuckin school's layout is more complicated than my last relationship." "That's what took so long." "But yea, I was planning to come over anyways"
Damien started for the door when something dawned on him. He pulled his phone back out. "Wait" "Where the hell is 25 A?" "I think I lost my map or whatever" "Nvm" "I'll figure it out"
With that, Damien decided that even though he really didn't know where anything was, he was determined to find his way around. These dorm buildings couldn't be that far from each other.
Damien had just finished unpacking the last of his things into his dorm room. And by last, that meant the contents of one large cardboard box with notables such as - a photo album, a set of little dragon statues, (he can't quite remember where he got those from, but they look like a typical garage sale purchase) one of those tall blue-green lava lamps, a few bean bag cushions, and some other trinkets that serve no purpose. Everything else was still boxed up and pushed to the corner of his room. He'd deal with those later - probably.
He really wanted to crawl into bed right now and sleep through the rest of the day - he had a nagging headache and all this unpacking wasn't helping - but he also wanted to see what Rhea was up to. This school was way larger than he thought it was going to be and he knew he was going to get lost trying to find his dorm, and he was right.
Pulling out his phone, he decided to text Rhea. He supposed that he could go wandering about like a lost puppy and someone would show him where she was, but he felt like that was a lot of effort that he didn't want to put in at the moment. "Hey." "Whre are u?" "*Where" "Pls respond" He sent this all in the time span of five seconds and then proceeded to recheck his phone every other second to see if she had messaged him back.
Appearance: Standing at 6’2, Damien is fairly tall and appears slightly lanky for his height. He has a beige complexion with sandy undertones and dark, umber brown coloured eyes. He straight jet black hair, but he often dyes it different colours. Known for flaunting his appearance, he tends to dress flamboyantly and you could say his fashion is,, avant-garde. He has a narrow nose and defined facial features which have been further accentuated with makeup. The amount of makeup he wears, while abhorrent to his mother, is something he displays more with a sense of pride than shame. He wears a small nose ring and silver hoop earrings along with ear cuffs. He often keeps his hair done up and pulled back except for bangs, which he lets hang out on the left side of his face.
Year: This is his first year enrolled here, he's kinda new to the magic scene.
Rank: he's currently a novice but he probably has some of that uNrEcOgNiZeD pOtEnTiAl (which he is definitely not utilizing)
Room No.: ???
Personality: Damien can give off the impression of having a markedly carefree and light-hearted attitude. Always ready to find the silver lining in virtually any situation, he has a fondness for humor and optimism. This behavior can also be inappropriate in some situations, however, and can quickly become tiresome among more somber-minded individuals. He is remarkably flexible and adaptable to fitting in with different people and has a gregarious nature about him, flitting about in different social situations and using his charisma to make friends.
Despite his friendliness and laid-back nature, he can also be very criticizing and skeptical towards others. He is merciless when it comes to poking holes in other people's ideas and he isn't shy when it comes to voicing his own opinions. His sharp tongue can often land him in hot water.
To an acquaintance or casual friend, it might be easy to miss the mood swings Damien goes through, but for anyone who has spent a long time around him, it can become readily apparent that Damien has a temperamental nature with oscillating highs and lows. There are periods of time where he acts speckless, cool, and borderline egotistical as he engages in risky behavior. This sort of boldness could be attractive to others at first, but the gross overconfidence he displays even in peril could be downright troubling to others. There are other periods, however, where he becomes morose and seemingly unmotivated to pursue anything. There is a certain mark of apathy and carelessness to his behavior as he lets friends and family, as well as interests and projects, hang on the fence during this period as he stalls and puts everything off.
This can be hard to recognize however because Damien is generally closed off when it comes to having deep, meaningful conversations or having emotionally charged discussions. Usually he isn't making a point to “hide” his feelings, but he can potentially come off as being shallow or detached.
Magic Discipline: Existence(?)
Innate Capability: Damien has the ability to perform tasks or have knowledge over a subject that he doesn't have any actual background in. It can also manifest as certain hunches about different situations or people. Basic intuition stuff. He can't perform something extremely complex, like surgery, but he can do other useful things that might be seemingly convenient for the time (Hot wiring a car, hacking into a database, operating a helicopter). Once the "hunch" passes however, he doesn't actually know the knowledge he exhibited beforehand, so he effectively "forgets" how to do it.
Equipment: He doesn't ever carry a lot on him. He occasionally seen slugging around a small backpack, however. It has various contents such as a makeup bag (you never know when you need to redo your makeup so you might as well just carry it around on you), a bag of half eaten, possibly stale Fritos (He tells himself he needs to pitch them but then proceeds to forget about them.), his vape (with pods and everything, he *technically* carries this in his pocket), a pair of earbuds where only one of them actually works, and probably some other miscellaneous things that are probably floating around in his bag and haven't seen the light of day in months.
Biography: Damien had a relatively normal childhood: he never knew his father, but doesn't really have an itching to seek him out, he had a stable, if slightly distant relationship with his mom, and an older half-brother who Damien still isn't sure he understands completely, despite growing up with him all his life.
His powers were present throughout all of his life, but the passive and nebulous nature of them made it difficult to identify or even recognize. They manifested through his high grades despite the fact he never studied, they explained why riding a bike the first time was a breeze (and his bafflement when the second time he went riding he practically went careening down the street), and why sometimes he felt himself luckier than others. Now he can easily see where his powers showed up, but before it had just seemed coincidental.
It was only when he found a book laying abandoned by the side of the road while he was walking down from school one day that he actually realized what magic actually was. Curious, he picked it up and when it described “spells” and “warlocks” he thought that this had to be some sort of hoax. Finding it humorous, he absent-mindedly stuck it under his arm and took it home, putting it in his room. He then proceeded to forget about it for the next week or so.
When he actually did come back to it, he was so mind numbingly bored that he actually decided to try out one of the spells described.
To his pure and utter shock, an orb of light blossomed out of his hand.
He tried to replicate the spell several times but it was to no avail; nothing ever happened. But nevertheless, he was convinced that he hadn't just hallucinated what happened and tried to figure out what going on. Magic just couldn't exist, could it?
He then remembered his old classmate, Rhea. It wasn't that she was directly connected to these events, but there was something about the strangeness of her disappearance that he connected to this whole "magic" discovery. He had a plethora of friends to choose from, but he decided to dial up Rhea and strike up a conversation with her after a long silence between the two of them. In any case, he decided, if she didn't believe him, he knew that she couldn't judge him that harshly.
It seems that there were no shortages to the surprises that kept cropping up for Damien. During that lengthy late night phone conversation Rhea revealed to him about the truth of where she really was, and even more surprisingly, confirmed his suspicions that magic really did exist and she herself was a practitioner. At this point, Damien was getting creepy cult vibes and had conjured up all sorts of images of dark, satanic rituals and occult symbols in his mind, but he decided to listen nevertheless. He wanted to believe her, but he knew she had to be pulling his leg. When she said that she could recommend him to this "Breakfast University of Magic" or wherever the hell she supposedly went, he said sure, thinking that this might all be some sort of great joke she was wanting to play on him.
It wasn't.
Master: Since his power was most likely hard to identify, he probably went unnoticed for a long while. He most likely didn't have a master teaching something that comes so intuitively.
If Damien was forced to sacrifice something important in order to move forward, it would be: His free time, the time he had for leisurely activities would have to be pushed aside to make way for pressing, possibly chaining commitments. It might sound small, but the idea of having to get completely and utterly involved in something, with no room for relaxing or shirking the workload, is a really hard thing for him to do, at least completely. If Damien was offered to have a single wish fulfilled, it would be: That's a hard one, honestly he doesn't even know where to start with that one, because he knows that he would probably impulsively fritter away his one wish on something dumb, like unlimited free Taco Bell or free vacations whenever he wanted them.
@TheHangedMan I was talking with @QueenNugget and we decided that Rhea and Damien have a shared past, being fellow high school classmates and friends. When Rhea left for B.U.M, Damien had to call and figure out what was going on and why his friend had just disappeared. She in turn, told him about the school and recommended him to the staff.
Hey, I realize this roleplay has already started, but is it alright if I join?

Holy smokes, I just realized that almost everyone has a missing dad, haha. That was unintentional on my part. I can see about thinking of something different in regards to my character's family situation, lol.
And I'll be taking those location and npc suggestions ^^

You found it
I guess it really isn't that hard though either.
Thanks for reading :)
