Dear Sir / Madam,
Most people are unaware of their value in the grand scheme of things. You might be one of them. For instance, have you ever thought that your life would amount to absolutely nothing and that you would die in obscurity, buried by the sands of time, never to be remembered? It is a fear most humans have; sorry snowflake - you are not special for wanting to be a hotshot.
See, the fact is, your fears are unfounded. Someone, or rather, something, does remember, and will always remember you. It has many names... but I like to call it the Muse. And you, my child, are an part of its symphony. Isn't that wonderful? Some people think it's a little frightening, but they're all feeble-minded fools.
But see, the thing is, most people are deaf to the Song. Why, I'm a little tone-deaf myself! Haha! Get it - tone - bah, you youngins have no sense of humor. Yet your generation seems to have an uncanny amount of individuals who can actually "hear" the Song, and even those who can "play" it! Now don't be silly, it's not always some tune you can hum... though some people do sense Songs that way. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, I think you're one of them. And I'm almost always right. I'm sorry, but that is the truth. Furthermore, once you're in this Orchestra, there's no escaping it. You can close your eyes, you can cover your ears, you can hide away, but you're still a part of it. I'll tell you now, the Muse doesn't like an idle Orchestra - the show must go on! You do not want to find out the consequences that await those who choose to abstain.
Of course, we'd like this show to be a good one, don't we? Yes, we all deserve a happy ending. Even you. But it takes work to get there. It's high time we got started! Thing is, we're not the only ones who can make the show. There are other forces out there that have their own agendas... darker ones. Have you ever stopped to think about why bad things happen on such a large scale? World Wars and all that? Well, now you know. Some people like to ruin a good tune.
For all I know, they might have gotten to you already. But so have I. Listen, I'm not going to force you into anything, but know that the weight of your decision is far heavier than you can imagine. Make the right decision. You know where to find me - the old music shop always needs more customers anyway.
I'll be waiting.
Kindest regards,
Dr. Chopin Schulte
Setting:
About 20-30 years in the future. Imagine today, but more technologically advanced (iPhone version 56 or whatever). Of course, there are always people who love old-timey technology too.
General Summary:
For centuries, there have always been people who changed the course of history forever. These are the people who make it into history books. They are called Instruments. For centuries, too, there have always been people who could sense the onset of these changes. They are called Maestro.
Maestro and Instruments can work together to change the fate of the world, whether it be for good or for evil.
Not all Instruments know that they are Instruments, but a Maestro knows his or her own ability and can always detect Instruments. Whether or not he chooses to reveal this knowledge to the Instrument is his choice. Maestro can sense the points where a universe divides from its parallel, but only an Instrument has the power to choose which universe to actualize. The sensations can take the form of any of the five senses, and usually has some sentimental or symbolic value to the Maestro. Every time a Maestro "listens" to the Song, there is a greater chance for the sensations to become negative. Some Maestros have turned insane as a result.
Characters:
Most people would probably be Maestros, though playing as an Instrument is also possible. I suppose I'll put up a dummy CS soon.
Supernatural stuff:
Probably some low-level superhuman abilities, mostly in the psychic skill set or reality bending during the endgame. This is going to be rare though. This RP's going to be more psychological than supernatural.
Post length:
A paragraph or two should do, but if you feel like writing more, then go ahead - but don't go overboard. Keep it short and sweet; one paragraph of awesome is worth ten of needless detail. :3
Just an interest check; this is just an idea I've been incubating. Questions and comments are welcome, since this is a WIP.
