There was a non insignificant part of him that just wanted to walk from all of this, after all; compared to all the other incidents he'd been involved in, the stakes this time seemed trivial. Who knows, he might even be able to salvage this Christmas Eve "'Saved' is a bit of a strong word. This is more like a stay of execution. But I still don't understand just why she wants this world destroyed. I mean, besides it's connection to an item connected to a Horror. But even then, you don't really see much of that connection reflected in the world itself"

Alexander sighed "I just...don't really get it. All of this over one stupid mirror, and on Christmas Eve of all times" He shook his head "I don't know, sometimes it feels like something is doing all of this on purpose, or something. Actually, now that I think about it, how did an inquisitor even get an invite to the Christmas party anyway?" He wondered

As per usual, Alexander was left behind when Lily found someone she wanted to talk to. At first, he found this a little tiring, but like most things about Lily, he had gotten used to it. In fact, her excessive energy was actually a little relaxing now...somehow. 'Heh, I can always count on Lily to do something to cheer me up' And then she got yoinked by a web, and Alexander saw red. His Reinforcement and Beast magic both flowed through his body as he readied his weapons and ran to where Lily had been standing, where he quickly saw the kidnapper. His mind briefly flashed back To the castle "Let. Her. Go!" He practically growled. But the stand off was interrupted by an announcement that sounded like it was coming from an old PA system

“Attention, everyone! The tournament has been placed into an indefinite hiatus. The reason is...The Black Mirror has disappeared,”

Alexander didn't let the news distract him for long 'I barely understand what that damn thing does and why everyone want's it anyway.' and quickly turned his attention back to the kidnapper and Lily "Lily, try to stay calm, I'll get you out of there" He said as he began slowly approaching. He put up a quick forcefield around himself and readied a barrier to deflect the next attack.

Once Maura had decided to leave Justine and Lily to practice on their own, the two of them began to practice aerial combat, to further improve on Justine’s close-combat skills. While Lily herself wasn’t able to fly, she could slow down her time spent in the air to simulate flight.

”When your opponent is below you, I think you should go for a straight downward slam!"
She advised her.
”Now, I’ll speed up, so try to hit me with your attack."

Justine nodded as she flew above.
”Very well! Here goes!"

Justine swooped down, and with a forward spin caught Lily before she dodged, knocking her into the water.

Watching the performance before him, Alexander couldn’t help but think out loud “I wonder which is more bullshit; flight, or being able to make barriers wherever you want? Actually, is there any kind of rule in place to keep someone from just staying in the air?

“I friggin hope so” Penny would chime in suddenly. She had finished her rather peaceful chat with Oliver and Finn a bit ago and had taken to simply meandering around the area. Lily and Justine’s bit of aerial combat caught her eye since that wasn’t really something one expected in regards to Keijo and she came over to get a better look.

“Otherwise that’s going to be a tough act to beat” She would add with a gesture to Justine. “I suppose that’s what the time limit is for though” Not that Penny didn’t have an idea or two for how to take someone out of the air. It was more that she wasn’t sure just how effective the ideas would be against someone with actual flight capabilities.

Justine was helping Lily back to the platform when she turned and saw Penny. She stared at her for a moment, her expression still.
"Penny…" She mumbled.

Alexander shrugged “It sometimes feels like this ‘sport’ wasn’t made with magic in mind, but later got slightly adapted to include it” he sighed “So what about you? Are you going to be a part of this mess, or are you just planning on watching?

“It would not surprise me at all” Penny would agree before sighing. “If it was only about the Mirror I would have willingly stayed in the stands to point and laugh at people” She would explain “But since the Beach is on the line I don’t feel right sitting back and doing nothing after Dan helped me out. So I’m going to be involved in this mess.” Another sigh “Unfortunately.”

I’m starting to wonder how Beacon still exists” Alexander said “With zealots like these inquisitors, how have they not made enough enemies to get destroyed yet?

“Far as I can tell the Ascendency is only sent out to problem places” Penny would scratch the back of her head as she spoke, not fully liking the mental image that Alex gave her. “And Beacon was one of the first groups founded. That gave them time to entrench before they got too many enemies.” She was sure there was more to it than that, like city shattering lasers and what not, but she didn’t want to bring those into the discussion right now.

Once Lily was out and dried herself, she also noticed that Penny had arrived.
"Oh, hi Penny! Long time no see! So, what's going on?" That was when she noticed how Justine was staring, and waved a hand in front of her. "Uh, you okay, Justy?"
Justine seemed to snap out of her trance-like state.
"Oh, sorry...I just…I didn't expect to meet you so soon…" She averted her eyes, and looked nervous. Lily scratched her own head in mild confusion.
"Well, that's all right. I'm sure Penny won't bite."

“Hey Lily” Penny would wave at the other girl. “Nothing going on was just in the area when I saw your flying spar” She would say with a shrug.

“And relax Justine, you’ll quickly find out I’m about as atypical as possible for a Beacon member.” she’d reassure the Vampiric girl. “If anything I should be the one nervous here, not you. We’ve never had any personal interactions, but I did destroy your house.”

Huh, yeah, I almost forgot about that” Alexander thought to himself “You looked a lot different back then. Did something happen?

“Lots of system and hardware upgrades” Penny would answer with a grin. “Back then I was barely out of the beta stages. Now I look as good as I function” She would glance down at herself “Dan’s illusions notwithstanding on that.”

Justine managed to take another look back at Penny, but didn't manage to keep eye contact with her for more than a couple of seconds before averting her gaze again.
"That is fine. The castle was given to me by my old Patron anyway…"
One of Lily's cheeks puffed as she witnessed the continued social awkwardness.
"You're right about looking good!" She then commented. She stepped closer to Penny and looked her over.
"You're a real beauty in Dan's dimension! Maybe that's why Justy's so nervous?" She held back a giggle, resulting in a head shake from Justine.
"It's not like that, but...For the Queen of Penrose, you seem less ruthless than I imagined."

“Nah, if that was the case She’d have had trouble talking with you Lily” Penny would retort with a look. Before nodding along with Justine’s statement.

“There’s a few reasons for that I’d wager” She’d say shifting her attention to Justine. “I’m here to say hi to some friends I’ve not seen in a while, for one. I am not looking to set up an empire for two. And lastly I’ve got no reason to deny you empathy. I am aware that you’ve got quite the history, but I can also tell that something big happened recently that changed you. If that wasn’t the case I’m not sure you would have that opinion of me” She’d smile, but if it was meant to be kind or not would be hard to tell.

Justine nodded, deep in thought.
“I see...This gathering must have been beneficial for you, since you have been able to converse and form alliances. In any case, I’m glad you don’t carry resentment towards me…”
She looked down, and Lily hugged her from behind.
“See, it wasn’t that bad! You just need to be a bit more confident, Justy! Now the only person you’d need to make up with is-”

At that moment, Dan’s announcement could be heard, and Lily gasped.
”Oh, it’s time!”
She turned towards the television set on the table next to the pool. Justine gasped as the chart was revealed.
“No way...” Justine was aghast upon seeing who her opponent was.

“M-Mariette...”

Alexander groaned “of fucking course. I bet that dolphin did this on purpose. ” he sighed as he shook his head “If it makes you feel any better; she apparently was having her mind messed with by her old patron, and is feeling pretty different now. I mean, she doesn’t hold a grudge against Lily for that stunt she pulled at the end. So if you make your feelings clear, I’d say you have a good chance at making up with her.

Justine turned to Alex, a hand held up to her arm.
"Really? I...I didn't know that…"
She put a finger to her chin, in deep thought.

“Nah, Dan’s just a moron, not malicious.” Penny would counter Alex’s statement as she too took in the tournament bracket. Noting with some amusement that she was getting a rematch, after a fashion. It wasn’t how she was expecting to encounter Sam again, but it was going to be interesting.
“And while you are right about Mariette, try to keep it quiet. She’s not spreading that fact around since she is still working under them for now. So reconciliation might not be able to happen in the middle of the ring.” She would add turning back towards the group. “And I wish we had more time to chat but it seems that the time to relax is over.” With a sigh she would take a step away.

"Hey, Dan's not a moron!" Lily spoke up.
"He's just a bit simple-minded." She leaned her head on Justine's, causing her to blush.
"I'm sure he has good intentions in pitting Justy here against her."
Lily then widened her eyes on hearing that Penny was leaving.
"Aww, already! And we just met! Phooey!"

“Feel free to drop in at the Sanctuary once this is all over. I’d like to get a chance to hang out with you all more when there isn’t as much going on.” Penny would give them all a wave before turning to leave. Stopping to look at Justine “And yes that includes you” She’d point at the vampiric girl to leave no ambiguity.

"Sure thing, Penny!" Lily answered with a hop and a wave of her hand.
”Byeee!”
Justine bowed.
"Thank you for visiting. And if, umm, we are to meet in the tournament itself...I'll do my best. Goodbye."

Time was always against Penny having a bit of relaxation it seemed. As there was still one more thing she wanted to do before dismissing this particular Counterfeit.

Well she seems to be doing well for herself” Alexander mused as Penny left “Still, I’m a little surprised to hear that she’s part of Beacon. I thought she was a robot monster girl. And sure, the local Beacon has mellowed out a lot since that meeting in the park way back, I didn’t realize they had mellowed out that much. I wonder when she joined up

"Yeah, Alicia told me the local Beacon's been through a lot," Lily chimed in, and leaned her head down towards her after her mood seemed to be down again.
"Justy…" She spoke quietly, but the lavender-haired girl frowned.

"Lily, Alex...Thank you for the support you've given me." She turned to the two of them.
"It's been difficult...But it's time I finally face her...And settle the bad blood between us. See you later."

She then walked away, and Lily took Alex' hand as she watched her leave.
"Hey Alex, wanna go to see the matches?" She asked, sounding less cheerful than usual.
"I'd like to be there for Justy's battle, if that's not too much to ask."

I mean, I kind of assumed that was the plan” Alexander replied as he got to his feet. “I just hope they have concessions of some kind there, I’m starting to get kind of hungry

Lily giggled.
"Now that you mention it, I'm also feeling peckish. Let's see if Dan's got chili dogs! I sure could use one!"

"I still don't get why we couldn't just dog pile her" Alexander sighed, after Justine had been signed up "It would have been a lot quicker and simpler after all. She was so horribly outnumbered that she wouldn't have stood a chance. But no, we're doing Keijo again. he shook his head. "Still...if you're insistent on this Justine, we're going to need to find a pool or something to practice on. I can make the platform, but for the authentic experience, we'll need water so that the platform can bob on the waves. Lily and I both had our first Keijo match without any practice and...well...we didn't do so well. Granted, she was distracted by her thing with the Shakespeare girl, and my by the dolphin. But I'll bet some of the people signing up have at least some time in the ring, so you're going to need to work to try and catch up"

Alexander paused to think for a minute "If there are any pools, they might be getting used up by other people who want to practice. Hmmmmmmm. Oh right!" He snapped his fingers in realization "There was that lake we skated on, we can use that! we just have to break some of the ice, and I can put down a Keijo platform. I'll have to give the platform walls to keep you from falling in the water, since it'll be too cold, but that's not much of a problem." he said as he lead the way to the pond

"My gift to you is A magical wand that is able to turn into anything small that you may be needing at this moment"

In a sudden flash of light, Alexander had exactly what the note described in his hands "Huh?" he turned it around to examine it. He let his mind wander, and the wand quickly flashed between forms; a pen, a mirror, a monocle, and lastly a small box "Well, this looks like a fun little trinket" It turned back into it's true form as he pocketed it. A small smile started to grow on Alexander's face as he took in the cheerful atmosphere 'I'm starting to get the appeal of Christmas. I thought all those movie were just being sappy and overexaggerating things, but...maybe they were on to something.' And right at the point where they would all break out into some cliché yet touching musical number...it happened.

“Stop right there!”

Alexander's eyes widened '...no...'

“The Black Mirror is a cursed Horror Relic! By Beacon’s divine will, I decree it to be contraband, and to be immediately taken into Beacon jurisdiction!”

He pulled out his sword and started making his way to the shouting girl 'no no no no no-'

"Silence, demon! Your word means nothing here! Now, give the mirror up, or you will face the consequences!"

'-nonononononononononononono-' He now had a manic look in his eyes, and his gait had upgraded to a fast walk. He started reaching for his magic, to make it flow through his body and fill it with power, when;

”S-Stop!"

He did just that. Alexander knew she wasn't talking to him, but she still managed to make him halt '...Dammit Lily' She then proceeded to talk the other girl into a Keijo match, and as she did, the manic energy drained out of him. He facepalmed and sighed "It always has to be something, doesn't it" He put his sword away 'But I am that a high and mighty Beacon Inquisitor would play Kei-' and then it hit him 'She has no fucking idea what she's gotten herself into, does she?' And a sadistic grin made its way on his face.

When the three of them crossed the finish line and failed to slow down, Alexander had a feeling he knew what was going to happen

”Lily, stop the sled!"

”How? It doesn’t have brakes!"

'Fucking knew it' He winced "You have Time magic, use that!" but if her lack of any attempt was any indication, she hadn't experimented much with making things stop or slowdown with her Time magic. Instead, she tried to turn away from the incoming wall of trees, but only managed to send them spinning. Although in her defense, it did seem to work somehow. The sled stopped without them crashing into anything. Alexander got rid of his tails and barriers, and got to his feet "Lily, I know you're an insane speed demon, but that just means that learning how to break with Time magic is even more important."

Then the dolphin appeared, told them who the winners were and informed them of the upcoming feast "Food? Huh, come to think of it, I am pretty hungry. What kind of food is there at Christmas feasts anyway?"

With extra space on the sled, Alexander was able use a clone to secure Justine to the sled. Not long after that, the race started, and Lily sent them rocketing off 'Huh...it's not as crazy as the motorcycle is' He thought surprised. Things started off pretty fine, until the rock. He was about to try and use some tails to push them out of the way...when the sled kind of hopped over it. Turning around, he saw Justine's wings outstretched. "Huh. You know, I realize we didn't actually plan this out; but this ended up being a pretty solid team" he said, mostly to himself. As he looked out at the recently decimated landscape ahead, he sighed "What the fuck are those idiots doing?"

”Hey Alex, if you boost me, I think we could go really fast on this thing! Wanna try it?"
Alexander considered the ramifications of this. She was most likely talking about having him boosting her magic, so that she could use time magic to super charge their speed. On the one hand, this would most likely have them going faster than this sled was built to handle. On the other hand '...meh, it cant be any worse than her on a motorcycle' He shrugged "Sure thing. Who want's to live forever anyway?" he responded deadpan.

Dragging Lily and the sled over to the starting line, he placed the sled down first, and then plopped Lily down in the front, with him sitting right behind her. "These things don't have any seatbelts, so I'm going to have to improvise" With both his hand palms down on the sled, he created two barriers that grew out of the sled into ring shapes that wrapped around his wrists, trapping them in place. He then did the same for his ankles which were at the front of the sled. With his body thoroughly stuck to the sled, he moved onto the step. Growing tails out of the sides of his torso, he wrapped them snuggly around Lily, trapping her in the world's most fluffy and thorough seatbelt. They grew out so long, that the wrapped all the way to Alexander's back, where he fastened them together with chain shaped barriers that he had grow out of said tails, keeping them locked in place. "Alright, that should be good enough." He then turned to Justine "You want to get on? There's not really any room up front, but we could squeeze you in behind me. Granted, that might make it a little harder to fasten you up, but that's what clones are for."

Maybe it was his Beast Magic, but Alexander found it easy to adjust to skating on ice. 'Do all animals have good balance, or is that just a cat thing?' He briefly thought back to various funny animal video online before discarding that idea 'Yeah, never mind'

”I’ve got the hang of it now, so let’s skate together, Alex!" Lily skated over and took his hand.

Despite her claims, she didn't seem to have the hang of it, as she started fumbling "Careful!" A tail shot out of his arm to stop her fall. Alexander sighed, half exasperated, half relieved "Geez, what am I going to do with you?" Despite himself, he was relieved to see her enjoying herself 'Maybe I was just over reacting when I worried that she had bothered so many people with that stunt in the siege that her Christmas was going to be ruined. But I can't really help it; I'm still getting used to having to worry about other people' He noticed that Justine was skating close to Lily, using her wings to keep balance 'I thought Lily was crazy when she just let Justine go after the assault on her castle...but, I'm starting to think she was right. That's not something I'm used to' a rare smile creeped it's way onto his face 'Dammit Lily, just what the hell are you doing to me?'

She ended up dragging them over to the dolphin, who was shooting pucks”You always hold the best parties, Dan. Thank you so much for inviting us here!"

The dolphin smiled, even as the enchanted goal spat the puck right at him, clanging against his helmet.
“You’re welcome, Lily. Though you should really be thanking Mariette; she did all the legwork...so to speak,” he added after a pause.
“Anyway, it’s going to be a little bit before our final outdoors event; the Wacky Downhill Race. Take a guess on how wacky it’s gonna be! And then, the big finale: the White Elephant gift exchange!”

”Oh, it’s happening soon? That’s exciting! I hope the lucky girl who gets my Christmas wish is going to like it!" She spoke with her palms together.
”By the way, can I also try shooting pucks? That looks like fun." The dolphin handed her his stick as she got to work shooting, with all her usual energy.

With Lily now occupied, Alexander asked the dolphin a question "Look, my experience with Christmas is limited to holiday specials, so sorry if this is a dumb question; but why is it called a 'White Elephant gift exchange' and not a Secret Santa? I never thought white elephants had any kind of connection to Christmas before"

Alexander watched in surprise as Justine used blood to magically make a model of the sculpture they were to make. "Okay, I was thinking that we could maybe just draw a basic idea in the snow, but this is actually a lot better" He said 'Actually, I could have done the same thing myself with a barrier.. Or maybe it would be easier to use multiple barriers and stick them together? Something to look into later' And with that, he got to work with his tools on making his part of the sculpture...for all of 4 minutes, before the unwieldlyness of the hammer and chisel 'Screw this' He dropped them, and then made a couple of razor sharp barriers over his ring fingers, and then began use those to carve 'Oh yeah, that's much better'

Time passed in silence as he and the girls worked on the ice. Until it was broken by Lily ”Phew! This is harder than I thought. The little bat just keeps turning derpier!"

Shaken out of his weird craving trance, Alexander looked over at Lily's bat. She was right; it did look derpy 'It suits her' he thought with a smile

”It’s certainly not a walk in the park. I’ve never used a tool like this before, so certainly took its toll on my hands. But at the same time, it is honest work, which is refreshing."

Acting on pure reflex, Alexander held his hand over Justine's and started using healing magic for a few seconds "There" he said once he felt it was done, and got back to his bat
---
Once they finished, Dan came over and judged it, or something, and a portal to the next location appeared. As per usual, Lily charged ahead. Alexander on the other hand, just walked through, and found himself on a frozen lake. "Huh, well this is different " he noted the lack of any apparent competition. Shrugging, he grabbed a pair of ice skates and gave skating a try. Slowly at first, so that he could get used to it. 'This...is actually kind of nice. I can see why people enjoy this.'
