Apparently the rules of these forums mean nothing. People act like a-holes. Disengagment isn't respected. Privacy is maintained. Harassment is considered fair play. Congrats, cyberbullies. You win..

Also, @Cardamonelaw - My PC directly addressed yours before you would have left. Would you like to comment? Otherwise, you're going to be out of the RP for a fairly long time, if that PC ever really rejoins.

I wasn't ignoring your post or anything, I was just waiting for the next DM post... that way if anyone else wanted to chime in, they could. But yeah, looks like I'm going to be riding the reader-only bench for quite awhile.

Arius pauses for a moment in response to the bow-wielder who has formally given her name as Ada. She made several valid points, despite the fact that she was being somewhat overly flattering towards a complete stranger. Arius considered himself an honorable fellow and thus he certainly didn't want see innocent people in chains, but the warrior asking the assembled group of strangers to commit treason was rather doggedly intent on not disclosing anything to them and likewise set against proceeding with even a modicrum of caution or common sense.

Thus, when without further words of any kind, the warrior proceeded through the gate, Arius simply cut the elven woman a glance, before politely nodding and returning on his way back to the tavern. Apparently nothing more needed to be said.
To be clear, not dropping out of the game. IC Arius is just calling BS on the current mission and he isn't walking into that estate.

As the group gathered before the gates of the supposedly villainous mayor's estate, Arius was more than a bit unsettled by the fact that the warrior bringing them to the rescue of his daughter not only seemed keen on not discussing the details of how that might be accomplished, but also hadn't let slip even once the name of this daughter whom he reportedly loved enough to risk such treasonous acts.

When the old man subsequently opened the gate and proceeded through without encountering any resistance, Arius' unsettled feeling grew all the more. In earnest, he hadn't even considered checking if the gate was unlocked as an option. The rich, even those without nefarious hearts like this mayor supposedly possessed, did not simply leave the gates that separate them from the masses of the poor unattended. To do so was a very good way to find one's self no longer rich.

Glancing about at the specific individuals gathered, Arius also noted that much like the dragonborn, none of those present seemed likely to be locals, even though it was supposedly locals who had been unjustly seized to be carted off as slaves. Indeed, none present besides the warrior noted having a personal stake in this venture. So where were the other friends and family of the citizens supposedly taken as slaves? And how exactly would selling one's own citizens supposed to help the mayor? Whatever value you could get out of them at market would pale in comparison to the lost future tax revenues, the loss of productivity in your village in general, and the unrest that would invariably eventually result. Evil or no, it was simply fiscally unsound... again, a very good way to find one's self no longer rich.

Leaning a bit in the direction of the elven woman who had commented on the concern of spies earlier and whose assessment he'd agreed with, Arius simply notes, "The wealthiest man in a village full of drunkards lamenting their own destitution... and the vile, child-napping, slave-trading mayor's gates swing open freely and stand unguarded? That's not at all suspicious."

Arius then summons his ivory pact weapon into hand in the form of a longsword, before abruptly turning towards and nodding at the warrior, "It occurs to me that perhaps this isn't business of random drifter such as myself and is best left in the hands of local authorities. Best of luck with recovering your daughter, whatever her name may be.", before he proceeds to head straight back to the tavern, without another word, keeping his ivory weapon closely at his side as he does so.

As others spoke up and volunteered, Arius raised an eyebrow in particular at the dragonborns' impromptu display of legerdemain upon the warrior, while making a mental note never to stand too close to him, however, he is notably more taken aback the lizard's accompanying inquiry as to there being a job and the details thereof. Had this rogue genuinely missed the armored warrior's entire entrance and boisterous call to arms, which had drawn the cheers of almost the entire tavern? That seemed rather implausible, which sort of made the rogue seem more like exactly the kind of spy various people present were suddenly very paranoid about, especially given that sneakery was clearly the man's trade.

Arius himself was not terribly concerned with such paranoia, as up until this morning he'd never even heard of this town or its mayor, and he sincerely doubted the man operated a complex spy network of any sort. If anyone were going to betray the warrior, it would most likely just be someone else whose family member had been taken, hoping to earn freedom for their own loved one by selling out their neighbors. If nothing else, this dragonborn fellow certainly did not look local.

Turning towards the bow-carrying woman, Arius finds accord with only part of her previous assessment, "Retiring to private accommodations would allow us to speak more freely but anyone else here would also be free to slip away without our notice. While I'm loathe to the idea of simply storming a man's home, if we are to do anything at all, we should probably proceed there with all due haste as you've said. Its not ideal, but we can simply make our plans, haphazard as they are apt to be, on the way and thus assure no time is given for word to reach."
@The Grey Dust
Of course, we'd still be waiting on the DM for that too. :D

Though if VKAllen slightly altered his post to have his character showing off their roguish prowess by pickpocketing one of our characters instead, then we could just say he succeeded and move on, since it'd be our own characters and not an NPC under the DM's control.
@JBRam2002
We all will absolutely notice it as is, at least after the result, if the warrior makes his opposed check, very likely a fight will break out. If he fails the check, per VKAllen's post the rogue is revealing to everyone that he pickpocketed something.

Mind you, I totally agree that in all likelihood the warrior will fail the opposed roll. But I don't KNOW they will.
@VKAllen
You posted an action that cannot be resolved and thus responded to by anyone without DM input. Whether your rogue gets caught and presumably immediately attacked by the warrior for trying to pick his pockets (that's generally what happens when a stranger catches you trying to lift their wallet/purse/etc... you get clobbered), or succeeds and just reveals to everyone he's a rogue but not actually trying to steal from the warrior is a pretty big fork in the road narrative-wise.
Arius wouldn't have paid a dragonborn walking into a bar any particular notice and Crow Eater wasn't getting involved in the issue with the man at the door. I wasn't ignoring your post, Arius just has no reason to interact with Crow Eater... yet.

Went ahead and edited my post slightly to clarify this.

Arius had been sitting at the bar for what felt like at least an hour when the boisterous man in ill-kept plate had strode into the tavern with his impromptu plea for civic uprising, and various other peculiar figures in the room had, in turn, sprung up in response.

For his own part, the young knight had no particular business in Oxguard and honestly had never even so much as heard its name aloud until earlier this very day when he'd spoken to the bar keep regarding acquiring adequate accommodations for the night. He'd been traveling for several days and was only forced to stop in the village by the rains and the muddied roads that had come with them.

While listening from the bar, Arius had found little reason to doubt that whoever this Mayor Edgar fellow happened to be, he was every bit the common clay of villainy the armored man was describing, but there was equal chance the mayor's deeds were being legitimized by the Crown. Thus freeing this one man's daughter could potentially lead to the entire village being marched upon and razed to the ground as an example to other such would-be insurrectionist hamlets. Nonetheless, the practice of slavery, even under the auspices of royal authority, was not something Arius's moral code would ever permit.

Rising from his seat to address the armored man at the door, the half-elf finds himself beaten to the punch by a another man, an usually large grey-skin fellow, and also a raven-haired elven woman. The elf at least seemed reasonable in her statements, but the other two men's eagerness towards violence gave Arius a bit of pause before he speaks and also approaches the armored man at the door, "If your intentions are simply those of a father seeking to rescue their child, I would freely offer what aid I can. However, storming this Edgar fellow's manor seems like an excellent way to get both your daughter and whoever else has been taken slain, or perhaps far worse.", giving a sweeping glance between the clearly desperate father and the two seemingly overly enthusiastic male volunteers, "After all, what good are your daughter's freedom and purses filled with blood-stained coins if in a fortnight the king's armies descend upon you and subject every man, woman, and child here to the stocks and gallows?", and not paying too much mind the red dragonborn who seemed somewhat disengaged from the discourse being undertaken.
