Yep, I like it. And I posted! Leaving Narissa off in a bit of a cliffhanger until Raquelle arrives haha.
Liam barely cared about the new voice at first. All he could think about was Dorothea. His Dorothea. She was here. He felt her furry little peck on his cheek and his smile widened and he closed his eyes as she told him she loved him. "I'm never letting you go again," he whispered. He wanted to hold her properly, to kiss her and stroke her long hair. He would be able to do so again, soon, though. He knew it. It was only when the source of the angry voice was in the room with them that Liam finally recognized Prince Bryn's brassy tone. His head perked up and he looked around blindly in the direction he thought the accusations were coming from.

Will had taken Derrick's sword and belt with a firm nod and was about to direct some men to find a room for him when the Verinian prince entered the room wearing his pajamas and an angry expression on his tired face. Will had been around royals long enough to know better than try to interrupt their rages, so he patiently waited until the prince was done shouting and making accusations of invasion, though he watched him warily. Before he could speak the cat started to meow quit loudly, and Bryn's expression changed. Will eyed the cat, half of him wanting to believe Liam's claim that she was Dorothea, but it wasn't until Bryn began responding the her with respect that he actually started to do so.

He had been looking at the cat, the princess, with an expression of wonder until he heard Bryn offering Dorothea and Liam his sword to assist them. Will straightened slightly, glad to have a member of the Verinian royal family along side them, even if it was their prince. Still Bryn was better than Raquelle, and having him on their side might make it easier for King Tommen to believe them. Will just wasn't sure if it was going to be easy at all. The roots Narissa's power and influence In Eldonia was undoubtedly deep and strong, and he didn't think she would give it all up without a fight. "We're honored to have you join us, Prince Bryn," he said, respectfully nodding, but his face went sour when Bryn asked what was wrong with Liam.

"Not really," Liam responded to Bryn, his voice tired. Having Dorothea beside him may have given him back some of the courage and strength loosing his sight had taken, but it was still late and it had been a trying day. "Your psychotic cousin was part of our company for a while today. Raquelle poisoned me with some potion and now I'm afraid I'm quite blind." He said it as though it were just a passing detail, but his tone shook ever so slightly was anger. "It seems that, in addition to saving the Five Kingdoms from Narissa's power and greed, and returning Dorothea to her proper form, that we'll be looking for a cure for my own predicament."

"Sire, I think we should be getting some rest," Will said, and Liam nodded his head in agreement.

"I'm fine right here, Will. Take care of the Marshal." He said the title bitterly and turned back to Dorothea.

"Jory, Keegan," Will said, turning to the two men and nodding at August. "Find him a room for the night." The two guardsmen immediately moved forward to take the Marshal to a room upstairs. The steward watched them go for a moment before looking back to their host. He had been directing the men all around the giant man's house and he had forgotten to see if it was alright. He felt slightly embarrassed as he spoke. "Forgive us for taking over your home, Mister...Jolly? We'll be out of your hair by the morning. Honestly, we are all so, so grateful for your hospitality."

Narissa couldn't wait for Darius and Raquelle to arrive at her hollow to begin. She had to move quickly. She sent out every raven she had to every corner of the kingdoms, summoning the darkest of creatures to her hollow. They had all been waiting patiently, but they could no longer wait. Not anymore. But she wasn't finished yet. Her alliances with the uglier things in this world were firm and strong, and they gave her power to match any army the kingdoms could throw at her. But she had seen Derrick in the mirror. She had seen his right eye. She had seen eyes of that shade of lilac on only one other person before. She knew what she had to do.

She returned to from the top of the tower, brushing her fingers lightly against a circular mirror hanging on the wall as she passed it, and the surface shimmered slightly for a moment. August Derrick was a fool to betray her when she had so much leverage. She held his entire world in her hands and she was going to crush it. He was going to suffer until he begged her to end it.

She poured some cold, crystal clear water into a silver basin, whispering in an old fairy language as she did so. The Narissa used a silver knife to prick her finger and let some drops of blood fall into the basin. The smooth surface rippled as her incantation became stronger, piercing the veil between realms until she was staring down into a pale, incredibly beautiful face with hauntingly wise and cruel lilac eyes. "Prince Orin," she said solemnly, nodding in respect to the Unseelie fairy. "Would you like to make a deal?"
Do you have any ideas for breaking Dorothea's curse or when to break it? I've had a few, but I'd like to hear your take/ideas. Narissa could lift it herself at a time when she think's her victory is secure, or Liam could do it with romantic love, or even Sam's friendship could break it. Dorothea could also break it herself.

I also wouldn't be opposed to it happening sooner rather than later, but that depends on if you're tired of having her be a cat at this point ha.
Also I think I'm going to have Narissa start dabbling into even darker magic now in her thirst for revenge. And make it so getting back to Eldonia is going to be harder than they all think it will be. But most of these exciting things can't happen til the next morning hehe. I'm working on something.
Ack, that sucks about your painting. :(

I don't mind adding in the sister! It makes it interesting. Perhaps everyone else thinks she died from her curse, which is why she hasn't been mentioned before by any of the other characters. Would have added to his determination to keep up appearances. I think that Narissa would have kept the sister somewhere extra secure rather than a normal dungeon. I've been toying with adding to the mirror mythology in this world, so maybe she's trapped the sister in one of her mirrors (it contains her but also keeps the curse at bay while August does all of the dirty work). That way he just can't try and break her out. Now I should think of a way to insert her into Narissa's evil plan of revenge ha.

And yeah, Orin could be like the secondary antagonist of the whole thing. I've been looking for an opportunity to bring him back. Him being able to see through August's eye would probably make him a valuable ally for Narissa. He also has dangerous knowledge about Sam (that she's from the other world) and could also still desire her, and she could be his reward for the alliance~ So exciting, I have new ideas now.
Looks good~ Will probably bring Narissa back into the story within my next couple of posts for plotting. I think I've figured out her new angle since she's had to reform her plan in response to August betraying her. How do you feel about her having alliances with darker fantasy creatures? Trolls, ogres, goblins, that sort of thing? Maybe even an alliance with the more twisted of the Unseelie fairies (so Orin could make another appearance since I love to hate him). To give her forces a bit of an edge?

I'm so tired of studying ha... Maybe I'll take another study break in a bit to type you something.
I got tired of studying and took a break so I wrote you a little something. ;)
Throughout her life Mara had always looked forward to the Full Moon Festival and Ceremony every month. It was one of the most important celebrations of the merfolk and no one ever wanted to miss it. The celebration of the full moon was vital to their lives, since the moon was so important. It influenced the entire ocean, and by extension it influenced the merfolk of the world, as well. Legend said that it was the combination of the ocean tides and the moon's light that had given birth to the first of the merfolk. They worshiped them both, the sea and the moon. But the was almost like a mother figure to the merfolk race.

Throughout the day the festival was filled with music, food, stories, games, and dancing. The Elder and his family, as well as other more noble merfolk houses that resided in their underwater canyon of a home, would partake in a sort of parade, and when she had been small she had felt like a princess. And then in the evening, when the full moon was at its highest peak over the ocean, they would ascend to the surface as a pod, the rarest of occasions where going to the surface was approved.

Maybe that was why Mara loved the Full Moon so much. Maybe the ceremony was what had fueled her fascination with the surface world.

That day, however, while the rest of her pod enjoyed the festivities, she couldn't focus on the celebration that she loved so much. Mara just could not keep her mind off of the surface. More specifically she could not keep her mind off of Mayumi. She tried imagining what her human friend was doing for several moments throughout the day, which was impossible, but mostly she just wished Mayumi could be here with her. Mara knew the girl would love this underwater celebration. There were so many things Mara wished she could show Mayumi, parts of her world she wanted to share, but the girl was human. She needed the air to live. But Mara couldn't believe that there was no way for Mayumi to experience at least a little bit of the world beneath the surface.

So she sought out the Record Keepers. They were among the oldest of their pod and were tasked with remembering the history and legends of their kind. If there was a way for a human to survive underwater, even for a limited amount of time, they would know. She was recognized instantly by the men and women, it was hard not to be when your grandfather was the most important man in the pod. They nodded respectfully at her, and she responded in kind, but she didn't stop until she found the youngest of the Record Keepers, and the one who might be the most willing to accommodate her strange request.

He was looking over a long wall of carvings and paintings when she found him. "Kole," Mara said softly and the young merman turned his head at the sound of his name.

"Lady Mara!" he said, delight and surprise in his tone, and he gave her a short bow. It wasn't like she was royalty, but she was a part f the Elder line. Her family was the oldest and most noble in their pod. That gave them some sort of power and status that the rest of their pod didn't. But it was more ceremonial than anything else. "What can I help you with? Are you looking for a new story to tell your niece?" Even though he was the youngest in his profession, Kole had still dedicated hours of his life to memorizing all of the merfolk's records. It was difficult, since they didn't have paper to write on and only the most important history was recorded through the carvings and paintings, but the Record Keepers were dedicated.

"No," Mara said shaking her head and swimming a bit closer to him. Her voice became softer and she looked at him intently. "A question, actually. This is...an odd sort of request. And I would love it if we could keep this between us. But I... heard Lea telling Brigit a story the other day. Of a human sailor who fell overboard during a storm, and despite pulling pulled underwater over and over again he didn't drown. Because of a mermaid." It wasn't a complete lie. She had heard the story before, but it had been years. "I was curious. Is there a way for the merfolk to keep humans alive underwater?"

Kole was looking at her strangely. "Why do you want to know?"

Mara felt a nervous flutter in her chest but she managed to remain composed. "Curiosity, honestly. An academic sort of curiosity. And Brigit was asking the same question, but she's a little too shy to ask. I would ask my grandmother myself, but I knew that the Record Keepers would have a better answer." She looked at Kole, her brown eyes round and hopeful and she smiled. "And I know I can trust you, Kole. You've been a good friend to me for years."

"Well," Kole started, smiling a bit, "Flattery will get you...everywhere. Now....let's see." His face contorted in thought and Mara hardly dared to breath.

The next day Mara breached the surface of the water in Mayumi's little cove, flicking her wet hair away from her face as she moved smoothly through the water and carefully pulled herself up onto the shore. It had taken her a little bit longer to get away this day, but she didn't think Mayumi would give up on her easily if she had to wait. Mara knew that she wasn't going to, now that she was the one waiting. She folded her arms in the sand in front of her and rested her chin on her forearms as she bit back a smile. She wanted it to be a surprise. She only hoped that Mayumi would be brave enough to try.
You can if you'd like to~ Might give me some more to write in response. :)
I have a test on Monday that I've been focusing on, and tomorrow I'm going to see Disney on Ice with some friends, so if I don't get you a response today when i take a study break you'll get one Monday afternoon/evening when my test is finished~
