Sounds good. The only reason I'm asking is because whether the roleplay has a focus on romance or not, it definitely helps the character dynamic and interactions when there's a good mix of both genders, at least in my opinion. But then again with this setting it could make for good camaraderie if there's a healthy dose of one or the other. Meh, ignore my rambling lol
Haha ok
Sounds super interesting. I'm up for it. Will PM CS today. Do you know yet if there's an imbalance of male to female characters? Or does it not matter? I prefer to RP male characters but can break the rust off a female character if need be.
After bidding the Princess good night, Dalton was about to turn around and head back to the ballroom when her grip on his arm tightened momentarily before she started speaking. The intensity in her bright blue eyes and the earnestness in her voice kept him rooted to his spot, speechless as this young woman in front of him spoke so highly of him. He bowed his head in silent shame as her words moved him more than he thought they should. He shouldn't have been so hard on himself when the entire kingdom still believed in him, still trusted him to protect them and keep the evils at bay. She was right. How he had let that ignorant noble's words upset him so much frustrated Dalton. He needed to learn to trust himself just as the people of the kingdom did.

Dalton raised his head to look at her again just as her voice faded into the silence of the corridor. "No need to apologize, Your Highness. I will do everything I can to honor your request." When she continued though, Dalton wasn't expecting the request that spilled forth from her lips, his pale green eyes widening a fraction at the weight of its meaning. It was a simple one but meant more than just the dropping of fancy titles. It meant trusting one another. It meant sharing an intimacy that amounted to more than just what was shared between a guard and his charge. It meant breaking down walls that once allowed him to emotionally detach himself from dangerous bonds.

Dalton couldn't help the heat that rose in his cheeks and wondered if she realized what she was really asking of him. Realizing he had yet to respond as the silence stretched out between them, Dalton cleared his throat and willed his voice to remain steady. Unsure of why he was willing to entertain this notion of friendship, the words tumbled free before he could rethink his decision.

"If that is what you wish, than I'll respect your request." A coy smirk crossed his lips as he continued. "As long as you agree to return the favor and just call me Dalton. A little normalcy might actually be refreshing." He bowed before turning back toward the ballroom. "Good night, Melanie. Sleep well."

Dalton had returned to his own room after dismissing the troops from their posts in the ballroom. All the guests had vacated by the time he got there, no doubt thanks to Sir Albert's swift intervention. Dalton was grateful for the quiet end to the evening, already forgiving himself for losing Melanie in the crowd earlier. Her words just minutes ago had moved him more than she may ever know and he was honestly surprised that they were having such an effect on him. It just felt good to be recognized and praised so truthfully, apart from the usual automatic "You did well today Sir Dalton" or "Great job out there, I expected no less from you".

Now laying awake in bed, staring at his dark ceiling, Dalton wondered why he had agreed to her request so easily. If it had been anyone else, his professionalism would demand he politely decline, saying something to the effect of it being improper for a man of his station to regard the Princess with such informality. But something in Melanie's eyes had urged him to agree. What harm could it really cause anyway? Part of the agreement was to drop such titles when they were alone, away from eaves-dropping ears that would later gossip about the implications of their familiarity.

Dalton turned over onto his side roughly, frustrated that his mind was wandering in the first place. It was unlike him to dwell on such trivial matters. Closing his eyes, he did his best to focus on his breathing, willing sleep to come.

Morning came brightly and unforgivably like it always did, but as usual Dalton was already awake and down at the stables before dawn broke over the horizon. Today would be the start of Melanie's riding lessons, the first of many to come, depending on how quickly she learned the task. The stable boy had picked out a beautiful white mare for the Princess, a strong patient steed that would serve to be Melanie's personal riding companion from today forward. Dalton focused on the task of brushing out the mare, welcoming the distraction from his thoughts regarding the events from the night before. His doubt and worry seemed to wash away with the rising of the sun and, satisfied that the horse was clean and brushed to a soft shine, Dalton proceeded to grab the saddle and reins in preparation for Melanie's arrival.
Cassius had swam barely a couple miles in the direction of the underwater caves he knew surrounded the cliffs of a human port town when the ocean around him started fighting against his approach. He knew it was dangerous traveling so close to where humans might spot him but the storm he had sensed earlier was fast approaching and these caves were the closet form of shelter in the area. It was worth the risk as long as he stayed deep enough where light couldn't penetrate the dark water. Cassius remembered with a shudder the last time he had stayed out too long in a storm. The turbulent waters and flashing lights that cracked across the sky threw off his sense of direction so profoundly that Cassius had actually thought he might tire himself to death before he found somewhere safe to rest. Now that he really thought about it, he was unsure if sirens could actually die. He had never been so much as wounded before but he was unwilling to test that theory.

Suddenly something broke the surface above him, startling Cassius out of his thoughts. Whipping his head up toward the source of the huge splash, Cassius actually thought for a moment that the storm was worse than he originally thought if it was throwing debris into the water. But then he realized with a jolt that it was a human drifting sluggishly through the water toward him. He was about to turn tail and make haste before he was spotted but then upon closer inspection he realized the human was tied and struggling weakly against their bonds.

Shit, Cassius cursed silently to himself. It should have been an easy decision to just leave the human to their watery fate. He had heard the horror stories about humans and what one might do upon discovering a siren. However, Cassius had always had a gentle heart and that fact might one day be the death of him. Before he could second-guess himself, hoping that she might actually be unconscious and not notice him at all while he swam her to safety, Cassius carefully grabbed her around the waist from behind and continued his trek toward the caves, only this time with a fervor that caused him to swim faster than he thought he was capable of.
Haha no worries. I liked it.
Oh cool, yeah that works! :)
I like both ideas. But for the mature captain, why would she be betrayed? And if she was a younger deck hand, how would she be privy to the knowledge of what the captain is looking for? Maybe she would but to the extent of my knowledge of pirate lore, I would think the deck hands merely follow the orders of keeping the ship maintained and clean. Maybe she overheard the captain talking about the talisman? Or maybe you could have her be the quartermaster. They're the highest ranking officer just below the captain (so basically second-in-command). They oversee punishments and discipline and have the power to veto the captain's decisions. They also are usually the ones to lead a raiding party (unless the captain themselves prefer to). Just another option.

I also just had another idea. Back then, having a woman on board a ship was considered some serious bad luck. Maybe you could have her be disguised as a boy and someone finds out that she's actually a woman, thus throwing her overboard? Maybe she's an orphan and decided to become a pirate in order to start a new life for herself? I don't know. It's up to you. Hope this gives you some ideas. :)

It really just comes down to what kind of personality you want her to have and build her character around that. Ruthless and cunning? Be a captain. Reserved and stoic? Quartermaster. Young and naive but potential to grow out of that innocent ignorance? Deckhand. Tomboy and independent? Woman disguised as boy. But that's just how I see the personalities. You might view them differently.

Sorry for the word vomit haha
Haha it's ok I understand. That happens a lot to me too. Sometimes I'll start typing up a post and different ideas will suddenly pop into my head that makes me want to change a few things. It happens, it's all good.
No problem. Take your time. I have a couple other RPs as well that I can bide my time with while I wait.
