In some ways, the guildfall was a blessing. It makes it harder for my original 2009 RPing to be found...

I've finally returned to the Guild. Many months of much RPing ahead.

A thousand things to be done; plenty motivation.

Bio

Aeronautical Engineer

TV and Film addict

Been here on the guild since April '08, seen a lot of change but still love it. I've been on and off, I've GM'd fantastic projects and train-wrecks, it all comes with the territory. I once tried to make a YouTube ad for the guild because I'm slightly insane. In a weird place with the Guild right now, seems like so many names I knew are gone, but more than happy and ready to meet new people. Been writing casually for over a decade, a lot of that practice has been here. I have some small short sci-fi stories printed in anthologies but those are so heavily edited they don't even feel like mine any more.

When not on the Guild I'm most likely working, playing FFXIV or the Souls series or (insert recent must play video game).
Anyone with a passing interest in sci fi needs to read Saga by Brian K Vaughan.

Can't this be resolved by completing a system and just screengrabbing it ?
@monkey ok. I still love you.

@newsun. Expect both but fear neither...

What
@monkey that's like two or three quadrants nobody is that big at the start of this RP.

@terminal awesome sauce thanks again. I may myself do a basic 2d map to compliment your more advanced mapping

@bacon I'll read the sheet ASAP

@newsun haaayyyy and see above

@everyone. Been wrangled into work until Monday evening. That said I'll use break times to pop on here. The deadline for NSs will be the same day I start the IC posting and add more info to the OP such as accept see nations and links.

Can we have a post somewhere with all the civilizations and like a paragraph explaining them? I have no real desire to constantly murk about in the threads that people have put up trying to find out who is who.

A compendium was always going to feature. Just not much point yet until things are more complete.

Sorry if I wasn't clearer with my description, as well with the Tachyon array. I'll address the arm first. On the map above, I was meaning the region where the Crux arm, Carina arm and Orion 'spur' are closest. A large swath of that area. or quadrant, how ever you wish to divvy up the galaxy. that'd be the location. Moving dangerously close to human borders and in the case of Sigma, actually having a DMZ between us due to a conflict a while back. That's my request. I must reiterate, it's supposed to be a big nation.Secondly, with the Tachyon weapon, I'll re-word it in the NS to reflect the weapons updated description. It creates a Tachyon stream and other dense and radioactive elements are dumped in to it, and in turn dragging them along at faster than light speed. So it hits with the Tachyons along with various other metals and radioactive element particles.. Is this updated description agreeable?Edit: I believe the majority of the NS is complete.. Now comes the daunting task of Writing up a history. I'm likely going to keep it short and sweet... I'm just more interested in making -new- history via IC rp..

Ok all this seems fine. Not sure you get what I mean with the arms or maybe you do and I'm not getting it but it's no big deal for now.
See unleashing tachyons could be an issue which is why I made the assumption they were a contained accelerant. It's fine for now any so no worries

I look forward to seeing more :D

Just a question: IS it possible to have an ancient species that went extinct, but has some population samples still preserved in various, unknown sites? Obviously, they would be severely limited in numbers, territory and understanding of current affairs, but it's an idea I'd really like to explore. Just throwing that out there :P

Yes that seems totally ok :)

:@Monkey pants: The orion arm doesn't meet the crux-scutum arm as the orion arm isn't an arm at all it's a spur. The Orion Arm is located between the Carina–Sagittarius Arm (toward the Galactic Center) and the Perseus Arm (toward the outside Universe) and so the carina sagittarius arm is always between it and the crux-scutum.

I'm assuming the tachyon weapon works by exciting tachyons in a chamber that then impart impulses on the matter dumped in?
Ok so I'm just going to rattle off thoughts from what I read.

Sol is fixed. The sun is where the sun is, on the orion spur. Now, not everyone can occupy the same patch of space in this rp, comprise has to be made and in fact being spread across the galaxy is the better option. Borders mean a lot less in space.
As for the inability to traverse dark space; that was a remnant of an earlier RP. I still am not having galaxy hopping but arm to arm should be possible without the need to go through the core so I'll edit that.

@Bacon there's no problem with your nation, it's a neat concept I think peoples' hesitation is simply arising from the saturation of synthetics in this RP. The All Party, the Sphere, The Virus, much of the Technocracy. Now it's obviously not an issue, this is sci fi after all. I think there was just worry about variation in the nations.

As for maps. I'll take as many as I can get

In regards to the powers. Well a political power is one who exerts force through its politics; a strong diplomatic empire who bargains and blackmails to get ahead in life. A social power is one who uses its culture, i.e. it might be a massive media producer of media that is enjoyed throughout the galaxy and uses this to influence matters. Think americanisation of european tv audiences but on much grander and direct scale.

Well, I could map the entire galaxy in Universe Simulator. I already have the entire Stoor System mapped, all I would need is to put down a Galactic Center and four triangulation points around it and I could recreate the home systems of every faction and all the important locations as long as I was provided with data regarding distance from the galactic core (with additional distances from the other points to increase accuracy). I couldn't really draw any borders, but it's not like those would matter as much in space.I could even put down fleet locations and the like.

That sounds amazingly fantastic

After all the weapons of man failed.. the Sphere was finally defeated by the simplest of means.

No? No! I feel your pain

if there is to be a map made, A note for the Hau and humanity. The only real border Hau officially share is a very small border with sigmas nation. As that was the point of first contact with humanity. just a fyi, if that makes sense even..

A map will indeed feature. If anyone fancies themselves a dab hand at that sort of thing feel free to volunteer

Terminal: "Publicly, the Stoor diplomats would probably record all diplomatic proceedings on memory modules and then sell them as comic memories of some asshole Stoor jerking everybody else around"^just.. just awesome lol XD

I have a feeling the stoor are going to end up very extinct very quickly xD
