In some ways, the guildfall was a blessing. It makes it harder for my original 2009 RPing to be found...

I've finally returned to the Guild. Many months of much RPing ahead.

A thousand things to be done; plenty motivation.

Bio

Been here on the guild since April '08, seen a lot of change but still love it. I've been on and off, I've GM'd fantastic projects and train-wrecks, it all comes with the territory. I once tried to make a YouTube ad for the guild because I'm slightly insane. In a weird place with the Guild right now, seems like so many names I knew are gone, but more than happy and ready to meet new people. Been writing casually for over a decade, a lot of that practice has been here. I have some small short sci-fi stories printed in anthologies but those are so heavily edited they don't even feel like mine any more.

When not on the Guild I'm most likely working, playing FFXIV or the Souls series or (insert recent must play video game).
Anyone with a passing interest in sci fi needs to read Saga by Brian K Vaughan.

@Darkmatter the owl or the woman? :p
@Dymion Well let me ask you this. Would YOU step into a locked cage and come between two amped up people determined to kill one another? :p

The owl obviously.

And yes, that's what law enforcement is.
Overall plot is bigger than any single character though surely? Just interrupt the fight somehow I mean it can't be that big of a deal? RPs never go exactly how people want, that's half the fun .
Yes multiple characters are more than welcome! I'll be posting a second myself soon!
@Heat Seeing as how our characters aren't straight up in things, perhaps our opening IC posts could be connected. You're an up and coming dealer, it'd make sense for a Crime family to have an interest one way or the other.

Nevermind, just saw you're also at the Spit.

Is anyone not?
Awesome to have such interest. Hopefully characters start popping up soon!
@YoshiSkittlez Awesome thanks. I'll post today/tomorrow!
So is the format yay or nay?

I'm normally the guy posting the 2000 word sheet, but given the essence of the character I wanted to keep things a more vague. I'm aiming for much more of the character to shine through in his mannerisms and first IC post, and internal monologue than straight up exposition here in the sheet. If you'd rather the 1000 word bio I can put it all on paper now though

Wikus Forgreaves - The Raven

The dimly lit interrogation room was pretty characteristic of District 16; modern and functional if a little cheap and grimy. The room was dominated by a dull blue neon glow cast from above down onto a steel table, bolted to the floor. Sat stout and astute on one side were too officious looking men, a local detective and BoD agent. Across from them, dressed in a swathe of dark clothes, all covered by a knee length navy jacket, sat the subject of their questioning.

~Interview Recording 8636G
District 16 Jail Facility #7
Interviewer: Detective Brogan Ashwell

Name: “You idiots are asking my name? The name you said about four times in the last hour in the process of arresting me and dragging me down here?” scoffed the suspect. Pain suddenly struck his temple, the source emanating from a small electrical wire they had plunged into his forearm. Glaring at the ‘law enforcers’ he grunted, “I see how it is; Wikus Forgreaves.”

Nickname(s)/Aliases: “What you wanna be friends now?” Wikus spat sardonically. Shaking his head and resigning himself to the fact these feds likely had the stones to keep pressing the information forcefully, he decided to just play along briefly. “People call me a lot things, mostly Mr.Forgreaves or The Raven, stupid name, and some o’ the highs get to call me Wikus. Sure you clever fella’s knew that much though.”

Gender: Raising his eyebrows, Wikus motioned so as to attempt to display his manhood before the detective grumpily moved to the next question.

Age: “Thirty one next week actually. We’re having a bit of thing, drink, hookers, drugs and blackjack. Ye fine fella’s coming?” The venom in his voice was biting and dry.

Occupation: “Con-man, hitman, pimp, extortionist and all round nice guy.”

District: “This one.”

Height: “Six foot one.”

Weight: “Dunno, haven’t weighed myself recently. What do ye think these weight.” Saying so, he lumped his light frame metal forearms on the table.

Appearance: “Really? You have a mugshot and you’re sitting here fucking looking at me.”

History:
The following is a criminal report file on the known history of Wikus Forgreaves, most commonly referred to as ‘The Raven’.

Wikus was born, raised and still currently lives in District 16. He has and continues to have quite a bit of movement between Beta districts, including occasionally into the restricted zones. Coming into a life of low-class status, Wikus saw the rougher side of the City from an early age. Both his parents were proletariat industrial workers. Living in the Nisha-Tano borough of the district, the presence of the Saito crime family was a daily acknowledgement. Most average people didn’t have run-ins or issues, with the family conducting its illicit practices mostly at night and only among certain circles. Attending regular state schooling, Wikus had a moderately decent and issue free childhood considering the circumstances into which he was thrust from the womb.

At the age of seventeen though, having not pursued any higher qualifications despite an apparent intelligence, Wikus was working full time in a production facility acting as a third adult in his household. Wikus had no great disdain for his life and family but nor did he have much care for them. When presented with a self-promoting opportunity the opportunistic young man took it. What started as moving some small packages for a few extra credits soon became his main source of income. Exposed to the Saito’s ways, a life of crime beckoned and without much other options afforded him and little in the way of moral qualms, Wikus jumped in.
Wikus’ life and activities from the age of twenty to the current time are very vague. The lack of information stems from the Saito’s excellent discipline in the manner in which they conduct their business and from Wikus’ own efficiency and methodology. It is know that he currently acts as an enforcer and go-to fix it man for the heads of the Saito Family. How he got there and what he did along the way is much less apparent.
I'm sort of done my character but am going to fiddle with it a but more here in work for a while. I also will attempt to strike up a new location if/when I'm accepted.
Just awake and saw this. I'll read through it proper once I'm in the office and I'll post a response then.

Only things I ever designed for university and in jobs were aircraft engines and propulsion system. It's what I have my degree in. So in my mind it's what I almost always think of when talking energy. I 100% can confirm that MPD the first plasma engines being developed do indeed accelerate very slowly, but for a much longer time leading to better overall accelerations in the frictionless of space!

@EVERYONE
Those with less of an interest in the hard science don't worry! Don't be put off by all this chat, feel free to ask any other questions. If you just want to apply and know that the mechs work, feel free Looking forward to seeing some characters before the weekend hopefully

Flywheels
Actually in fact flywheel generators are used in high-end air/spacecraft applications as gyroscopes called reaction wheels and they are used as attitude adjusters. I think the currently best proposed solution to a lot of the problems that the system has is the idea of stacked layers of flywheel generators rotating in alternating directions. Kind of like how the Russians make the world's best attack choppers by using co-axial pairs of main rotors.

Friction is a big issue. Obviously the actual wheel housing can be made vacuum but there's still friction between moving parts. An idea, but maybe too far of a leap would be suspension of the wheels in the vacuum via non-traditional means i.e. gravitationally or magnetically suspended. The high energy thing wouldn't really be an issue I don't think, I think it's safe to assume materials' properties quality has dramatically increased in this setting and the whole process would be pretty stable. For general operations I'd assume the thing doesn't run at full capacity but is perhaps also used an energy source for the boosters/burst movement systems and energy weapons and the generator can be pulsed when needed. That's a main advantage of such a power supply.

EPG:
I know quite a deal about rail gun operation. It's been my favourite weapon system for some time and I even considered including it in my masters, but its one of the few weapon systems without and aerial application being realistically possibly an time soon!
The railguns I'd envisioned here were standard two rail rifles, but instead of ferromagnetic rounds, having the projectile rest on a 'bed' of plasma which would complete the circuit and accelerate the round. Reason being, initial fire is more energy intensive, but any round type/material can be used.

Essentially what your suggesting is a system somewhat similar, in that the round itself need not be conductive, and that the loaded EPG 'magazine' would provide the emp burst to complete the circuit, power it, and add an additional explosive kick. Correct?
