Name: Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight AKA too many aliases to list
Alignment: Sees himself as Lawful Good. Others may disagree.
Affiliation: Currently None
History: Marc Spector had often felt like the only thing he was good for was hitting people. He'd started developing that particular talent as a young, first on the streets and then in some less-than-legal prize-fighting rings. With his fists and pent up rage coupled with sheer bloody-minded determination he was able to pull himself and his brother Rand up out of poverty. It was in that same state of mind that he signed up for the Marines as soon as he was legally able, since the military would at least let him keep fighting people for money without worrying about a raid from the cops cutting his brother off from his only means of financial support.
Spector found that he took to war zones and conflict like a natural and he wasn't the only one who'd noticed. Within two years he'd been scouted by the CIA and retrained as a field operative, traveling the world at the behest of the government wherever the danger and intrigue was thickest. It was good work if not particularly honest and Marc was considered one of the agency's best and brightest. He was even able to strike up a real if covert relationship with a fellow operative by the name of Lisa with whom he regularly worked. In a life that had mostly been made up of drifting aimlessly from one fight to the next, it was about as close to stable and happy as Marc Spector had gotten.
That all changed on a mission where Marc and Lisa were tasked with tracking down the leader of a massive arms trafficking organization hiding out in Italy. To Marc's shock, the arms dealer they were after was revealed to be his brother Rand who had turned to crime in his long absence. Taking advantage of Marc's hesitation Rand was able to kill Lisa with a hatchet and escape. Enraged by his lover's death and his brother's corruption, Marc hunted Rand for four days before blowing him up with a hand grenade and leaving him for dead. Overcome by the loss of both of the people he cared most about, he resigned from the intelligence community and turned his skills and considerable personal traumas to mercenary work.
Perhaps he wanted to die or maybe just keep fighting until the world hurt as much as he did, but whatever his motivations Marc Spector threw himself into every warzone, brush-fire conflict, and insurgency he could possibly get involved in, the more danger the better. He was rescued from himself by an unlikely companion, fellow mercenary Paul-Jean DuChamp, or "Frenchie" as Marc soon began calling him. Frenchie insisted on befriending Spector and keeping him alive despite his death-wish and in time the two became the closest of friends and partners for life. Together they survived numerous battlefields and with a little bit of wise investing, Marc became one very rich mercenary though he continued on in further pursuit of the almighty dollar and out of friendship to DuChamp. Another short if influential friendship came in the form of a younger mercenary, actually a traveling Bruce Wayne seeking to learn unconventional warfare tactics. Though Marc rejected him at first, the young man proved his worth over time and Marc and Frenchie began teaching him the ways of guerilla war. Ultimately Bruce even took a bullet meant for Spector during a particularly dangerous ambush, not only cementing their bond but somewhat reigniting Spector's belief in honest altruism and sacrifice. The two patched up their wounds and Marc even offered Bruce a permanent stake in their band, but the younger man turned him down and they amiably parted ways. It was shortly after this that Marc took the job that would change him forever.
Marc stayed in Egypt to sign on to the larger crew of Raoul Bushman, a much more violent mercenary who killed for the fun of it as much for the money, though he paid incredibly well. Unfortunately for Marc, Bushman had his eyes set on plundering a recently uncovered temple to the ancient Egyptian god Khonshu. He began threatening and killing the archaeological dig site's crew and Spector stepped in to defend them. This didn't turn out particularly well for him as it ended with Bushman defeating Spector and leaving him to die at the collapsing altar of the ancient moon god. As he passed into death, Marc Spector received a vision of Khonshu that told him if he accepted an offer to become the god's champion he would resurrect him and make him more than he was. Marc accepted and awoke to find that he was able to escape the collapsed temple, then took revenge on Bushman and saw him imprisoned.
Feeling a new-found sense of purpose as Khonshu whispered words of justice and vengeance to come in his ear, Marc Spector returned to New York and established an identity as wealthy financier, philanthropist and defense contractor Steven Grant using his invested wealth as a mercenary and the treasures of Khonshu to finance a one-man crusade in the name of his new God, with Duchamp along as his pilot and 'bodyguard'. He had become a ghost of the moon, a specter of vengeance raised by Khonshu, the Moon Knight! He also went about establishing numerous other identities, all to serve the god for whom he functioned as an avatar, though in truth all of this may just be a delusion caused by a horrible life and being temporarily dead and he tends to lose himself in the roles he occupies.
Supporting Cast:AlliesJean-Paul DuChamp AKA "Frenchie": Moon Knight's best friend, Steven Grant's bodyguard and the pilot of the Mooncopter.
Buck Lime: A former SHIELD tech turned developer for Steven Grant's Spectrecorp, he also designs much of Moon Knight's equipment.
Marlene Alruane: The daughter of the archaeologist killed by Bushman in the temple of Khonshu, Marlene occasionally assists Moon Knight with his operations after he saved her from Bushman in Egypt. Moon Knight and Frenchie have since trained her into a competent hand to hand combatant and skilled markswoman at her request.
Amos Lardner: A contact from Marc's days as a CIA operative, Amos serves as Moon Knight's source for the general buzz in the espionage and intelligence community.
Jeff Wilde-The young teenage son of former masked thief and Moon Knight rogue The Midnight Man. Moon Knight has been looking out for Jeff out of guilt for accidentally killing his father during their last battle. Jeff was taught many of the secrets and skills of the previous Midnight Man and occasionally wants to be of use to Moon Knight but does not know the role the vigilante played in his father's death.
VillainsWill be introducing these as I go IC.
How (if at all) does the New Frontier version of your character differ from the original?: Well mostly I want to write Moon Knight with some level of internal consistency besides connection with Khonshu and multiple personalities unlike the wildly varying comics version whose gone from a former merc trying to fight crime who got a little too involved with his alternate identities to...well, a wide variety of things all of them crazy. Here he's a crusading Avatar of Khonshu, but he's also doing this to try and atone for his life of killing and bloodshed as a mercenary and intelligence operative as he was in earlier comics. Basically he's similar to normal Moon Knight but just a little more sane and in control at this point and his character development will hopefully take some new and interesting directions.
