I think our skeletal friend here is referring to the lower half of the dungeon we were just in. Essentially it wasn't a natural part of the structure, but a giant mimic disguised as such instead.

Beholder's are always at odds with everyone. So long as you don't look like them, that's reason enough for them to act. But yes, you would be correct in your assumption undead, we were at odds. It was keeping me from not only leaving my lair, but from creating new thralls as well.
