Still holding on to Ben's hand, Aria closed her eyes and let the music flow over her. Her body moved with the beat easily and she found herself moving closer to Ben. Finally Aria took a brave step in her mind and laid her arms on Ben's shoulders so that they were only inches away from one another. Moving herself with the music, Aria opened her eyes and gave Ben a shy look before stepping closer, closing the gap between them.
Aria grinned and shrugged,
"Maybe..." She said then nodded,
"I might know a little place where we like to go to dance,We have to be more discrete though. Mama would kill me if she knew I went here." Taking a last bite Aria set her fork down, full of the thick stew. She waved to the kitchen again before standing up,
"We don't have to pay, I have a tab here." She explained, taking Ben's hand to keep him close. As the night was drawing in, more people were coming out. Quite a few of them were heading in the same direction as Aria and Ben until they came to a large villa with lights strung all along the outside. There was loud Italian music playing and people were filing around to the back of the house. Looking back at Ben as she pulled him forward, Aria smiled and lead him into the thick of a crowd of dancing people. No one was really dancing in one style, but Aria started swaying to to sound of the music, her hips rocking,
"Do you like to dance Ben?" She asked over the music, her voice playful.
Aria started into the dish herself, leaning her elbows on the table. She could taste the distinct flavors of each fish, but they blended well. This particular dish was one that could either come out delicious or awful depending on what went in it. Today's catches were a good mix, so the dish was nice.
"What would you like to see next?" She asked, taking another bite,
"Or are you tired and would like a rest?"
"Well we have plenty of beaches here!"Aria said as their food arrived. It was a dark dish, a kind of very thick stew with meat,
"This is cacciucco, one of the staple foods of coastal cities here. The traditional type is made with five kinds of fish; one fish for every C in the name." She said, handing Ben a fork,
"There's no telling what kind of fish there is from day to day, it comes from whatever the fishermen catch." Aria motioned for Ben to have the first bite,
:"Go on."
"They're beautiful," Aria said, finally gathering the courage to trace one on his upper arm with her finger,
"They tell stories, and have deep meaning for you and for the people who put them there. You worked hard for them," She said before dropping her hand and pointing to a small restaurant off to the side,
"There," She lead him in, soft guitar music was playing and the place was quiet, but there were a few people eating there.A man in the kitchen raised his hand and called a greeting as well as asking what they wanted,
"A plate of cacciucco, please!" Aria called back then sat at a corner booth. The table had full view of the restaurant,
"This is my favorite place to eat, and this is where I come on days when it is too wet or hot to go anywhere else. I people watch here."
"Tell me about your tattoos," Aria said, raising a hand impulsively. She wanted to trace the one closest to her on Ben's arm, but she hesitated and dropped her hand back to her side.
"Did they hurt?" They were on the edge of the main square, but Aria lead Ben down a quieter side street, into the town itself. Men were sitting on porches, women gardening and children were playing. Aria waved to a few of them as they walked but kept going.
"Melano's," Aria said quickly, picking up her skirt. She pulled that on, but left her shirt off as they walked back down to the main road,
"It has everything, and it's not a tourist place." Aria smiled and pushed a hand through her hair, letting the sun dry it.
"I told you I would have you know this place like I do, so you should eat like I do."
Aria stopped swimming to join Ben. She nodded seriously,
"I want to know everything you know, and I will make sure that by the end of the week you will know everything I know about Isola di Luna. Be careful not to fall in love, Ben." Aria smiled as she pulled herself out of the water. She stood up and pushed her long hair out of her face,
"With the island, I mean."
She didn't miss his comment about her body. It made her blush but smile at the same time. Dropping her feet, Aria looked at Ben, her smile disappearing and she shook her head.
"I would love to hear your stories, and to know what you've seen, but this is my life. It is what is expected of women. We are born here, raised here, and we will die here..." Her voice turned sad and Aria looked away from Ben. Taking a breath, the woman did a couple backstrokes to clear her mind.
Aria laughed and floated on her back,
"I wish I could do this every day... You're so lucky, Ben, being able to travel and go where you want when you want. The island is beautiful, but once you have seen it, there's nothing new." Looking up at the sky, Aria gave a mirthless laugh,
"Sorry, I shouldn't bring a visitor into my own problems. I should be showing you the island and letting you have fun."
