Seeing that Roland couldn’t reply to Mr. Noonan’s question properly from anxiety of him probably giving negative feedback, Avery instead answered the question for him, telling the man that Roland was going to ask if they would take her in and care for her, otherwise she would have to move to another foster home that would intentionally be out of town, yet she didn’t want to be a hassle for them either.

“I see,” said Mr. Noonan, looking over at Roland rubbing his eyes as he was trying to keep himself awake, then turned over back to Avery to give an answer. “Well it woul-”

All of a sudden, noise was being made outside from all the reporters and camera crews trying to get into Avery’s room, so she decided to alert the nurse and tell her situation, and the nurse went to inform the policemen about the predicament as well. The officer that let both Roland and Mr. Noonan inside the hospital earlier then went into the room and over to the window, ridding the curtains out of his way to catch and scare the news reporters and such.

After all was taking care of, he apologized to everyone in the room for his behavior, yet he was only trying to do his job, and left the room. After he left, Mr. Noonan looked over at both Avery and Roland, surprised as to what had happened.

“This sure is turning out to be pretty crazy isn’t it?” said Mr. Noonan to both of them.

“You don’t know the half of it,” said Roland in a tiresome voice, “But I really don’t either, to be honest. But um……about the……you know…..”

“Hm? Oh wait,” said Mr. Noonan, just now remembering about the situation from earlier about Avery staying with them. “Well, what can I say? I don’t have a problem with it.”

Once Roland had heard that, he stood up with a little bit of shock for a moment. He didn’t think he would say yes, but otherwise think of it as another issue for them.

“Wait, really?” said Roland to Mr. Noonan, “Just like that?”

“Well why not?” said Mr. Noonan with a smile, “I have no problem with. I trust you Roland, and Avery over here seems like a very nice girl. Her staying with us I feel would help her begin a new life.”
After Mr. Noonan answered Avery’s question for Roland, the girl then decided to do a favor for Roland, seeing that he looked very exhausted and wore out, mainly because he was. She decided to call in a nurse and ask her to get something for Roland to sit and relax in so that he could feel better.

“Wait, you don’t…..have…..to” said Roland to the nurse, but noticing that she had already left, there was no point in telling her anymore.

“I think you need it Roland,” said Mr. Noonan, “It wouldn’t hurt to try and rest for a little bit, with all this stress you’re putting on yourself.”

“I guess,” said Roland to Mr. Noonan, agreeing with him of the much needed rest and relaxation needed.

Once the nurse came back with a chair, she told Roland it was a reclining chair so that he could lay back and get more comfortable in it, but before he did, he looked at it and observed it for a moment, then looked at the nurse to say thank you.

“Ok. Thank you ma’am,” said Roland to the nurse.

Afterwards, the nurse asked Avery if she was in need of anything else, but once the girl said no and thank you, the nurse departed from the room. After she had left, Avery told Roland to go ahead and get into the chair and try to lay down and get comfortable.

“Right,” said Roland, making his way over to the chair as he gently placed himself in it, trying to ease off the stress he had.

“That work for you buddy?” said Mr. Noonan to Roland, asking to see if the chair was good enough for the boy.

“Yes sir,” said Roland, beginning to finally relax and feel at ease.

Then, out of curiosity, Avery looked over to Mr. Noonan and had asked him why he was there, so he decided to answer her question.

“Well, basically I’m here to support Roland,” he began stating, “I took off work today to help him get here to see you. He looked like he wasn’t able to cope right with something, so my son Steven filled me in about the two of you. He seems to really care about you, that’s all I know. Oh, and also, he wanted to talk to me about something.”

“Uh….yeah,” said Roland, “Well…..um……you see…..um……”
After the doctor examined Avery, he overheard Roland’s question, replying by stating that she would be ok, as long as the press doesn’t barge in. It was very relieving to Roland, finally getting to hear that Avery would be ok, and that he wouldn’t have to worry anymore.

“That is some good news, huh?” said Mr. Noonan, following up to what the doctor stated on Avery’s condition.

Roland smiled after hearing all of this, but then his weariness began to show as well while he yawned for a minute from being overtired. Avery looked at him and asked if he slept alright, so he replied with a somewhat tiresome tone in his voice.

“Oh,” he said, quietly laughing to himself, “Yeah, just….uh…..little bit of…um……”

While Roland tried to finish talking, Avery asked another question on why he wasn’t in school, preventing him from finishing his first answer and making him struggle on the next question. He became quiet for a moment, trying to find the right words to say to Avery, but due to the happiness and tiredness he felt, he couldn’t say anything. Instead, Mr. Noonan walked up a little behind Roland, placing his hands on his shoulders, and answered the question for the boy.

“I let him stay home,” said Mr. Noonan to Avery, “My boy Steven told me of what had happened, well, he showed me on the television first.”
Roland and Mr. Noonan tried their best to avoid being pushed and shoved by a bunch of interviewers trying to get a hold of information about Avery, but once one of the officers that Roland was familiar with came to help them in, their luck had changed. The officer explained that people have been crowding the place trying to get in, even that one made a successful attempt inside and scaring Avery, which in most cases wasn’t surprising.

“It happens,” said Mr. Noonan to the officer.

After they were safely inside, a doctor had came up to them recognizing Roland from yesterday and telling him that he had permission go see Avery in the room she was currently in, so he decided to follow behind a nurse that was to lead to her room, Mr. Noonan behind as well. While doing so, they saw that before they even got close, a camera man and a reporter was trying to sneak into the room, a police man then coming along to tackle them and escort them out of the hospital. The doctor then gave his opinion on the matter, questioning why they would do such a thing as invade someone’s privacy.

“Getting that top story is all they care about,” replied Mr. Noonan, “They’ll do anything in their power to get it too.”

“Yeah, but it ain’t right,” followed up Roland as they continued towards Avery’s room, “They surely don’t care, that’s for sure. I just hope Avery is ok, especially with of this happening.”

As they made it to their destination, the nurse opened the door for Roland and Mr. Noonan, walking in as they both spotted Avery, her spotting them as well while she was still in her hospital bed, saying hello to Roland.

He placed his hands into his pockets, mouthing hello to her, but her also noticing the person behind him made her scared for a minute, then Roland starting to notice and explain to her who it was.

“Oh, um….Avery, this is Mr. Noonan, Steven’s father,” said Roland, “He drove me here to come and check up on you.”

“Hello Avery,” said Mr. Noonan to the girl, “It’s very nice to meet you.”

After so, a nurse came to check up on Avery, giving her treatments and such, then leaving after the doctor had walked in next, telling her that she was in need of rest.

“So she’s going to be ok doctor?” questioned Roland
A few minutes later that day, Roland was riding in the car with Steven’s father, Mr. Noonan, as they both progressed their way to the hospital to see Avery and make sure she was ok, continuing the conversation they began at their home earlier.

“So I’m guessing Steven went to school today, right?” questioned Roland, remembering that even with all the bizarre events happening, it still was a school day, and he missed all his classes as well.

“Well,” began Mr. Noonan as he drove the family vehicle to their destination, “He argued me about staying home because I told him not to wake you up, but I made him go anyway. He wasn’t very happy with me when he left.”

Hearing about the small disagreement that Steven and his father had earlier made Roland smile and laugh a little bit, then gave his opinion on the situation. “Steven makes a fuss over anything and everything, that’s for sure.”

“That he does,” said Mr. Noonan, agreeing with Roland and laughing with him.

Looking out of the passenger side of the window where he was sitting, Roland glimpsed at the street while they were riding, then coming to a red light giving them the intent to stop. The conversation that they were having seemed to make a very short ride for the both of them, but Roland still wondered how long it would be before they get to the hospital.

“Are we almost there?” asked Roland.

Once the green light had appeared, the vehicle continued on the road as Mr. Noonan answered the boy’s question. “Let me get to this turn up here and then you’ll know in a minute.”

A minute later, making a complete stop due to a stop sign, then seeing the coast was clear of any other car in the way, Mr. Noonan proceeded with making a left turn with the vehicle, showing right in front of them the hospital from the windshield view. As they got closer, they also noticed the parking lot being full of news trucks and reporters from the local news stations around town, assuming the fact that they were trying to grab information on what they could about Avery.

As they pulled up to the parking lot, Roland looked to see nothing but a bunch of camera crews standing in the middle of the place, trying to find a way inside the hospital. “Gee,” said Roland, amused at the scenery, “All of them are here for Avery?”

“Looks that way, doesn’t it,” said Mr. Noonan, finally finding an empty parking space and place the vehicle into the spot he found. After doing so, he shut the engine off and got out of the car, speaking to Roland about the current event going on outside the hospital. “Sure is a mess out here, isn’t it?” said Mr. Noonan.

“I’ll say,” replied Roland, getting out of the car as well and closing the car door behind him, “But how are we going to get inside with all of them piling at the entrance like they are?”

“I’ll figure something out,” said Mr. Noonan as he and Roland began to walk towards the hospital to head inside, “Hopefully.”

Once they got to the entrance, it was very hard to see due to the fact that it was piled up with news reporters trying to get in, but Mr. Noonan began to push some of them aside, Roland following behind him, as he made it to the doorway, seeing the police guarding it from the inside to prevent any of them getting through. Once both of them made contact with the doorway, they stood there to see if the police would let them through, trying to avoid getting toppled by news reporters and camera crews as well.
The next day had risen a little late for Roland from the current events that had kept him in exhaust and worry yesterday. Seeing that the ray of the sun had came from the blinds of his window onto his eyes, it didn’t look as it phased him much, but instead he decided to pull the sheets over his head, not wanting to get up whatsoever, even though it was a school day as well.

A couple of minutes later, Steven’s father, Mr. Noonan, had walked into Roland’s room, telling him of the time and had some news to share with him as well. “Hey, Roland?” said Mr. Noonan, flicking on the boy’s bedroom light while speaking to him, “It’s pretty late buddy, you need to hop out of bed. I have something to show you.”

Once Roland had heard Steven’s father, he quickly removed the sheet from his head, looking over to his doorway where Mr. Noonan was standing with a tiresome look on his face. Once Mr. Noonan walked out of his room, Roland got out of bed and left the room as well, following the man into the main room where their television set was on. On it showed a paused segment of a newscast with a headline on the bottom of a screen stating of an abused teen being hospitalized.

“Steven told me that you needed to discuss something with us,” said Mr. Noonan as he took a seat onto the couch, grabbing the remote from the coffee table, “And I’m certain it had to do about this girl here, right? Isn’t this the one who stayed here a couple of days ago?”

“Uh…” said Roland, lost for words at the moment due to the conversation he held for yesterday to be confronted as of now unexpectedly, but agreed to talk about it while had the chance. “Yes sir, it is.”

The television showed a picture of Avery and another one of her father as well, stating the current whereabouts of the both of them. Her being hospitalized, and him currently being held in prison.

“Why didn’t you tell us about this sooner Roland,” said Mr. Noonan, “You know we are here to help you with anything. We might not be your parents, but you can still come to us.”

“N-no sir, it isn’t that I couldn’t trust you,” replied Roland, “I…..made a promise……to her. S-she told not to tell anyone, otherwise it would of became worse with her and her father. I wasn’t even suppose to know.”

“I see,” said Mr. Noonan, “Well, it’s fine, but it isn’t fine. You have a friend right now in the hospital and the best thing for you to do is be with her and support her. I tell you what, go ahead and get ready to go.”

“Huh?” said Roland, questioned to what intentions Mr. Noonan had.

“I’m going to take you to the hospital to see your friend,” stated Mr. Noonan, “We will talk more about everything in the car. Right now, you need to hurry and get ready, ok?”

“Yes, sir,” said Roland as he hurried back to his room quickly as could to get dressed and ready to go see Avery again.
A couple of minutes afterwards, Roland decided to go inside and head straight for the couch, plopping down on it from being a little overtired, yet kept very quiet as well. Once Steven had closed the front door and locked it for the night, he went over to where Roland was sitting and asked him of what had happened.

“Roland?” asked Steven, then again with another question, “You okay man?”

Once the very weary teen had heard his friend asking if he was alright, Roland leaned sluggishly down into the couch with a reply in a whisper. “I don’t know, to be honest. I just feel very terrible for some reason.” Then, realizing before he could do anything else, he remembered that a discussion was needed between him and Steven’s parents, the Noonan’s, so he asked his friend of their whereabouts. “Say Steven,” said Roland, then following up with a question, “Is your parents here, or are they still gone?”

“Oh…..um…..gone,” said Steven, “Well, at least mom is. She had to work overtime tonight, but dad is here……asleep.”

“Oh,” replied Roland, afterwards following up with a heavy sigh, “I guess it can wait till tomorrow.” Once he found out that he wasn’t going to be to talk about a place for Avery to stay, he thought the best option would be for him to just go to bed, so he got himself up off the couch and headed straight for his bedroom.

“Wait,” said Steven, bringing Roland to a halt, “Are you going to tell me what happened at least?”

Roland turned back to Steven for a moment and replied. “Tomorrow,” he said, “I promise you, ok?”

Once all was said and done, he made way into his room and closed the door behind him, flopping down onto his bed and ready to go to sleep. Though the thought crossed him that he was suppose to write in his journal about his day, he instead decided to wait until tomorrow morning to fill in what he had witnessed, and slowly his eyes began to close. Forgetting that he still had his clothes on and not bothering to turn out his light, he fell asleep, only to wait for a new day to come of a situation he didn’t know if he is capable of handling.
Once everything was settled and confirmed, the policeman led Roland out of the hospital and towards his vehicle so that he may take the boy home. After opening the passengers side of the car for Roland, he asked him for address so that he may know where exactly to take him, so Roland spoke to the officer, telling him the location.

“I think it’s one seventy four, eleventh street if I’m certain, but I’m pretty sure it is,” said Roland.

Once he told the officer, then a quick confirmation through the radio between the police, the officer drove out of the hospital parking lot, and proceeded onto the streets to take Roland home.

After a few minutes had passed from a very quiet ride, Roland having the thoughts of worry, hoping Avery was going to be ok in the hospital, the officer told Roland in a couple of minutes that they will reach the destination of his home, so Roland did was nod his head to him as an ok.

Another couple of minutes had passed, only to see that Roland spotted his home in the officer’s side window view. Once they had made it and stopped, the policeman unlocked the door for the boy to get out and return to his place, and in doing so, decided to give him a card that contained information on the policeman and how to contact him, telling Roland that if the parents agree for Avery to stay with them to give him a call.

“Yes, sir,” said Roland as he took the card from the man, “I’m going to talk with them right away.”

After he got out of the car and had taken the card from the officer, he closed the door on the passenger side and had waved goodbye to the policeman, walking up to the doorway while doing so. Once he made it to the door, he knocked on it to see it anyone would open it, and much to his surprise, Steven greeted him inside.

“Roland,” said Steven, “You’re home. Say, is the police car still here?”

When Steven mentioned about the police car, Roland pointed over to the right to let him see it for a moment before the officer took off in it.
After asking the policeman if he could use his phone, the officer smiled at him and handed Roland his cell phone, telling him he could use while he left to go talk to the doctor for a moment. Once he had a hold of the cell phone, he decided to dial the number that would call the house phone of his house so that he could inform Steven and his parents that he was headed to the house by a police escort, this way when he got there they wouldn’t be all worried and questioned assuming something terrible has happened with him.

Once he dialed the house number, he let the phone ring a couple of times, waiting on an answer. Instead of hearing a third ring, he heard Steven’s voice. “Noonan’s Morgue,” said Steven on the other line, making a joke.

“Hey, Steven,” said Roland, “Can you hear me?”

“What? Roland? Hey man, where in the world did you disappear to?” replied a puzzled Steven, “And whose phone are you using?”

“Well….” said Roland, with a chuckle due to his friend not knowing of the whereabouts or situation Roland had gotten himself into, “I need to explain myself I know, but long story short, I’m headed that way with the police.”

“WHAT!?” said Steven, “The police? What happened?!”

“I’ll tell you when I get there, and no I’m not in trouble. I have to go, so I’ll see you when I get there,” stated Roland as he hit the end button to hand up the cell phone given to him.

After the short conversation, the police officer walked back up to the boy and asked him if he was ready to leave, so Roland replied with an answer, also handing him his cell phone back as well. “Yes, sir. Ready when you are.”
Roland, asking the question of Avery wanting to stay with him at a home that wasn’t even of his, made him feel uneasy fro some sort of reason, knowing that Steven’s parents might not be open to the idea of someone else staying in their home, but also knowing that they are very nice and kind people, he assumed that they wouldn’t have a problem with it hopefully. He knows he’ll have to ask them first, but he also knew not to ask Steven what he thinks on it either.

After he asked the question to her, Avery’s response being for an ok go as long as she wouldn’t be any trouble to them, he smiled at her spoke following her response. “You won’t be any trouble,” he said, “I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t mind. Steven on the other hand…..well……he’ll eventually get over it.”

A minute later, Avery was telling Roland how sleepy she was feeling and that she was in need of rest for now, but also told him that he could stay if he wanted to. Once hearing that, he couldn’t make up his mind if he should stay or head back home, yet knowing he had school as well and not wanting to miss a day or two, the current situation was more important. Just then after, a nurse came in right after Avery fell asleep, stating that visiting hours were almost over and that he would need to leave Avery’s room for tonight.

“Y-yeah, ok,” he said, hesitant on what to do and say, but stood in place for a moment as the lights in the room dimmed while Avery slept. He really didn’t want to leave, but seeing that he has no relation to her, he didn’t have a choice either.

Soon after, when Roland turned around to leave the room, the officer from earlier came in to see Roland and ask if he needed anything, such as to make a phone call or a ride, and Roland answered his question to what he wanted to do.

“Um, well I know I’m probably going to need a ride,” said Roland to the officer, “Since I no other way to go of course. But…um…. I’ll also need to tell them what’s up as well, so if you have a phone, sir, could I use it for a moment?”
