Imperfectionist said :) I'm here, with things to say!So, Belasco, it seems we continue to have very different views on what the politics and people of wizarding Europe should be like... But I'm not going to argue until I think my ideas are better-defined (which they aren't). All I'll say is that if there need to be riots in France, they shouldn't be leftist worker's riots. Damn, I have to get back to work, I can't explain myself. Um, to be edited.

My thought process was literally

What are the French renowned for?

  • Striking
  • Libertay Egalitay Fraternitay
  • Surrendering

  • And basically went with workers' rights as the cause of a strike. If anybody wants to suggest a better cause or a better plot altogether, I'm quite happy to go with that. Apart from Germany* (which is mine :P), I really don't mind what Europe looks like so long as it's not in direct contravention of Geography or common sense. :P

    * and also possibly the Netherlands. Apparently when I study a language I tend to get quite possessive of it and I'm learning Dutch as well...
In fairness, I think the main reason the IRC was going nuts was because there were people in there asking about for information.

Anyway. I guess all we need now is to, uh, start.

    :DDDD
Yeah, RPG went down again for the best part of two days. The Facebook and IRC groups were going nuts.
    Did everybody survive the minicrash?
I don't think the group will be meeting her at the start of the adventure. It doesn't really matter. I'm not going to plan too much (any more :l) because everything will work out with a bit of thought and I don't want to push the river or force anybody else down a plot they don't want to write.
You're right about that and I'm going to put some effort in to make sure he's a little bit softened in the group so as to avoid abject bloodshed from the start, but if he does go on a veela rampage (and yes he absolutely will) he'll need to be ingratiated into the group first. That said, if they are in Germany, perhaps they only keep him because he's useful...
Well, the public feeling in France would be probably lefty. But I suppose there can be riots for any reason - I just thought workers' strikes would be a decent enough cause.
My worry with Johann getting actually kicked out of the group means there's not a lot of coming back from that without him eating a craptonne of humble pie, and it'd be a shame to have him do that too soon. ;)
Sloth said This [Johann] now must happen, and I will be very disappointed if it doesn't.
Yes, but doesn't Fleur being half(?) Veela prove that they can be found all over Europe rather than their central influence in the East? I myself would prefer to run into them when we hit Germany or Bulgaria or what have you if we run into them at all, I mean, I doubt we'll be running into any Leprechauns outside of Ireland, no?

Yeah, it really really really does have to happen. :D
With respect to Johann, I'd rather meet them somewhere other than Germany, since he's clearly going to be reasonably central to any arc we have in Germany anyway, so I'd rather sexy French veela to sexy German veela. In ideal Belasco world where Belasco gets everything Belasco wants with respect to Johann's character arc, the veela would be introduced in the short-to-middle distance. I kinda get the feeling that if he were to go on heat a bit of a rampage, he needs to have spent some time making at least some alliances in the group in order not to simply be abandoned.

There's definitely no Leps outside Ireland, though.

Idea Alert: (whee whoo whee whoo)

Let me present France as a country with a reasonably right-wing government but a population (workforce) that really really really doesn't like it. Can you smell red riots? Suppose we get caught up in a massive protest that starts to get out of hand? I thought perhaps there could be a yearly wizardy festival (maybe even similar to a music festival!?) at an unplottable magical castle in France, which then becomes the target for a big demonstration. Think riot police. Think disaffected workers. Think carnage. Think chaos. We don't have to stick around to fix it; it can be as simple as turning up, pitching the tents, getting into a spot of bother then fleeing for our lives.
Three characters have connections to Beauxbatons so it might be nice sooner or later. I just thought I ought to drop the canon-bomb in case anybody was thinking we could just drop in on our way further East (we can't - it's Southwest). I can't speak for Veronica or Lydia (the other Beauxbatons-relevant characters) but I think I'll start Johann off at his sister's anyway, so I don't actually mind that much.

I wonder about the notion of 'evil' characters and whether perhaps we could avoid generic villains because muahahahaI'mSoEvilMyFaceEvenLooksLikeASnake and instead go for more realistic situations. For example, Germany won't be Britain under Death Eater rule - it's just quite right wing in a way centrists may find uncomfortable. If we go there, there's not going to be ancient demons or serial killers that're the antagonists - it'll be authority figures being overbearing and overly defensive, as they tend to in such countries. It's believable, and I think there'd be greater drama for that. We don't need to be super-believable all the time, but I'd rather err on the side of realism. Apart from anything else, the most compelling conflicts are usually (melo)dramatic rather than action-based, and we have plenty of space for arguing and fighting and whatnot within the group. That said, if anybody does have a bright idea with a bit of solid plot for an arc, I'm more than happy to support them because frankly I haven't got one. Ehehehehe...

Johann plus Veela is going to be rather worrying, just so you know. I suggest running quite far away. I imagine Michael would be frankly laughable. That said, aren't Veela Eastern European rather than Western? They're mascots for Bulgaria, and I'm pretty sure Veela are actually already characters in Slavic mythology suggestion Eastern origins.

    A tomboy

I can't stand Ravenclaw so she's staying a Slytherer if you still want her. I thought she could perhaps have had a bit of a thing with Grant for a short while before they both realised it was a ridiculous relationship they weren't actually very interested in, and they just agreed to be good mates. Perhaps it's a bit of a running joke for them that everybody expects them to have relationship trouble when they really really really aren't.
That is my single favourite gif-type thing of all time. Anyway, Vena, it's up to you if you want that character or not for Grant's sake really. I genuinely don't mind either way. :)
