It saddens me to see how people have been tricked about the issue of abortion, thinking that it has somehow enabled women to go in at 9 mo. pregnant and abort the baby willy nilly, like it's no big deal to even get one.

Most places don't do late-term abortion, and I doubt very much that it's somehow done lightly. In a lot of ways it's a prevention for misery and illness, protecting against a lower quality of life for both the mother and child. And most often it's done very early.

But that's in the very few cases where abortion actually happens, most of the funding goes to basic needs for women. birth-control, correcting hormone imbalance, checkups for cancer, vaccines for STDs, treatment of STDs, and reproductive education. It has an immeasurably positive impact on the lives of women and losing that funding or the legal sanction for those services will be a disastrous blow to public health and to the well-being of all women.
