I can either have them be apart of a kingdom that already exists or make a kingdom/nation of my own? If I decide to go with the kingdom/nation of my own, can I make them the royal bloodline of that kingdom/nation or is that a little too much for those characters?

Yup feel free to create your own kingdom and make it your own. Just be sure to add a few bits of history and other details so others can notice the differences.
@DragonofTheWest alright, done.
Do you mind if Nehlin accompanies Aerendyl to wherever he'll stay? Or do you need s.o with more diplomatic skills and/or is more affiliated to the guild?

Edit

Actually nevermind, seeing @deia876lat's roleplay, I think I misunderstood how much freedom the players are allowed. Still, to double-check, are these things ok?
- controlling npc reactions as long as it's reasonable
- making npcs and assigning them backgrounds on the fly, as long as it's reasonable
- same thing with places: players can take the initiative to describe places the gm hasn't described yet, within reason.

Yeah thats a great way to phrase it actually and my apologies if people are still a little confused and Ill update some of the guidlines later on to reflect what you said.

Ultimately I tried to keep things vague or flexible so plot points and details can be adjusted to accomdate as much as people as possible. Also considering the lore is based on so many different source and im seeing a variety of characters which is awesome, I heavily encourage the use of implementing the use of npcs and giving them as much as detail needed to help their story… provided it doesnt contradict what has been established

@OddApproved Looks great I only ask that you elaborate on where your characters are from (kingdom wise) as in this setting high elves can be from all over the world. You are free to create your own kingdom/nation if you want
Do you want me to post my character(s) in the character section or do you want to look it over for approval?

Yeah feel free to post the cs here or PM just so I can make sure everything checks out

@Lemma looks great!

Chapter 1: The Mages Guild of Pandarosa

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The night seemed darker than usual as howling winds whipped back and forth against the stone walls of a battle ruined castle. In the great hall large enough to fit over a hundred men, numerous lords gathered in quiet conversations as they waited for everyone to be accounted for. Despite having just fought a great battle together, the various heads of state of numerous countries sat divided in anticipation. Never has there been a gathering of so many great rulers in one setting. The objective of the gathering however was simple… how does the gathered assembly here formulate a plan to combat the great threat known as the Void. The discussions went stable at first, but it was not long till the arguments, threats and accusations began. There was venom in the words spoken and tensions were reaching a boiling point.

“I’ve had enough!” one king announced, earning the complete attention of the room. “Before this war began, I was slaughtering Asterions! Now half of you beckon me to make peace with them?” The great king was a giant of man and battled scarred, armor as thick as his beard, his voice a booming echo. The voice belonged to King Tobran, a giant of man in stature.

“Is that how you disguise the truth? Last time I checked my heir sent twenty thousand of yours fleeing into the hills just two years ago.” A high elf named Amerion replied. Amerion was the current High King of the Asterions and while he paled in comparison to the rival king in terms of stature, Amerion was smooth in the delivery of his words and his calm demeanor was infuriating. “It’s evident great king you lack the foresight and the wisdom to properly access the situation at hand. I am no happier than you are but if we are all to survive this apocalypse then I concede…This coalition will have my army.”

King Tobran stood up and spat on the ground in defiance, the hostility between the two ever so clear. “I spit on the graves of your people. I lost two sons because of your greed. I would see you dead before I ever march alongside you false dragon!” The words were aimed to cut deep but instead of the High King, it was another who took the insult grave. Stepping away from his king’s side, a golden armored knight stepped forward into the center of the room, eyes locked with the great human king.

“Grandfather give the order and I will take this man’s head.” the knight stated, his hand placed on the hilt of his sword. Tobran scoffed at the threat. “You would do that for me Aratheon? Every day you impress with your boldness.” Amerion replied, taking the sudden turn of events to be quite amusing.

“I’ve always heard King Tobran misses his sons dearly. I’ll be glad to reunite them.” Aratheon replied, his eyes never leaving the opposing kings but his tone and delivery matching that of the Asterion King. The sharp words earned several smirks and amused looks from the foreign gathers. Despite Aratheon’s age, his charm and confidence were infectious, it was obvious why many here gathered despised the Tassarion led Asterions. The great king gripped his war hammer, his mouth trembling as if trying to find the proper words. The audacity of the young elf before him demanded action, such words demanded blood. The room was now on the very brink of explosion until a calming voice filled the room, a voice from an Arch Mage of the Mages Guild. “My Lords, my great many lords, now is not the time for any more bitter fighting. If we continue to trade words, we will eventually trade steel. I ask that we all look deep into ourselves and remember what’s important. We need each other. The world needs this Coalition.”

Knock, Knock

Aerendyl’s sat up gasping, eyes wide open as he scanned the room. Instead of that firelit council room, he was in the bed of his cabin. “That damn dream again.” The young elf muttered as he rubbed his temples. For some reason Aerendyl kept having dreams of the past, dreams of events that he did not even witness because he was not even born. A pair of knocks rung his door again but this time a voice followed.

“Aerendyl, wake up! We’re closing in!”

“I’ll be out in a minute.” The elf replied half as he shuffled out of bed, stretching his limbs as he wrapped an ornate cloak bearing the symbol of his people around his shoulders. Before taking another the young prince took a deep breath as his dream raced through his mind again. He was grateful to be awake... despite knowing of such past events through stories and what he was told, the dream felt so real as if he was physically there. Aerendyl eyed his hands and touched his face as if to check to make sure he really was awake and that perhaps he had fallen into some other cruel nightmare. Feeling satisfied and aware, Aerendyl exited his cabin as he tried to shake off the effects of his slumber though the salt air caught his attention right away.
“You alright? You look like you didn’t sleep well.” A voice called out. It was Gloin Thunderhammer, a mighty dwarf who was a friend of Aerendyl since childhood.

“I’m alright. Just had that dream again.” Aerendyl replied, continuing to stretch as the pair walked towards the top deck of the ship.

“The one where your nearly father tried to take Tobran’s head to impress your great grandfather?” Gloin knew this story well. He had heard the story before and had an ancestor who attended that very same meeting.

“That’s the one.”

“You been doing a lot of reading to prepare for our little adventure.” Aerendyl nodded. What ever happened to Tobran?”

“Died shortly after that meeting if you would believe. The Chosen got him and High King Amerion shortly after.” Aerendyl paused. There was a depth of sadness though admittingly Aerendyl only knew of his great grandfather only from stories. “And then my grandfather after that.” The mention of his grand father however cut a deeper blow. As elves, they were physically immortal from aging yet fate dictated time and time again that his ancestors were not immune to those skilled enough with a weapon.

“That Chosen… must have been one hell of a fighter to have killed so many on his own.”

“My father tried looking for him in the final battle. I think that was his biggest regret… not being able to personally kill the one responsible for the death of Two High Kings and over a hundred Dragon Knights.”

“So, who did?” Gloin asked, taking interest in this little history lesson. Aerendyl shrugged. “I forgot the names. I have read so much recently, learned so many different names that sometimes they all blend. But it took quite a few of them, plus several members from the Guild.” Aerendyl paused again as he gazed out towards the approaching harbor as the Iron Spire of the island of Pandarosa was visible out in the distance.

“You sure you are alright?” Gloin questioned. The dwarf meant well but Aerendyl was too shy to tell him he wanted to be left alone for a bit to gather his thoughts. This whole trip had made him uneasy and reality was settling in.

“Yeah just… I don’t know. I guess I am just nervous. I don’t know what to expect.” It was an open admittance and a subtle attempt reset his attitude towards the whole situation at hand.

“You should be honored. You’ll be the first of Asterion royalty to come to Pandarosa.”

“We trade with them sure and every once in a while, a few of them are allowed to visit our shores but ever consider why my father didn’t want to come here? It’s well known my father doesn’t like them. Same thing applies with my mother. Ever since I was born the Mages Guild has been pestering my father for a “better business” relationship. I know I volunteered to do this, but I can’t shake this feeling that maybe I was foolish to leave home.”

“You worry too much.” Gloin was maybe half of Aerendy’s height, but his strength was evident when a reassuring hand gripped the elf’s shoulder. “Relax. I hear there is plenty of taverns at the port. We ought to get you drunk.” Aerendyl let out a small chuckle. “Please Gloin, I know what’s what you want to do.”
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A mighty horn originated from a tower that overlooked the harbor signaled the arrival of the Asterion ship. The grand vessel adorned with white sails and a great banner of the Asterion people at the top of the mass for all to see would make quite the impression as the ship sailed into an empty dock as the crew aboard eagerly prepared to touch land after a week long journey. It was here, peering over the ship's railing that Aerendyl was beyond astounded now that he was right next to the mystical island that he had heard so much about. Like any Asterion, Aerendyl would have proudly proclaimed about the size and beauty of harbors all across his homeland, but Pandarosa was different. The port of Pandarosa was larger than any he had ever seen, surely it was the grandest in the world and everywhere you looked ships and banners from all over the world, each bearing different symbols decorated the view.

“I’ll give them credit.” Gloin said, a certain giddiness in his tone. “I can see how people can lose themselves here.” Aerendyl nodded in reply. Even from his view he could already tell that the harbor contained all sorts of pleasures and sins. Among the crowd, merchants shouted above each other, each attempting to sell whatever exotic good they carried. One stood out among the rest.

“Basilisk eggs! Yes you heard right! I have over a dozen Basilisk eggs, the mother was over a hundred feet long and could pluck a wyvern down from the sky!” Aerendyl curiously waited to see if anybody would take the merchant up on his offer but then other shouts from the crowd from drunken sailors who stumbled in and out of the various taverns as uniformed guild mercenaries walked in pairs just to ensure the peace was kept.

Aerendyl turned to Gloin “Have the crew disembark the cargo in preparation. I’m expecting a representative from the Guild shortly.” Gloin nodded and stepped away from his friend and began to bark orders to the crew.

The flag of Asterion waved proudly against the sea's wind and for all it's magnificence those who cared or understood what that flag was had no qualms in watching the crew. It was natural behavior for those at port to see who had just arrived with strangers gossiping amongst themselves about some sort of rumor or story they know but this was different, Aerendyl could see it already. Aerendyl kept his position at the ship’s railing, his eyes moving from person to person and he could feel the uneasiness in some of them, some looked back at him with disgust. It was no secret why many did not like Aerendyl or his people… The United Kingdoms of Asterion proclaimed itself to have no equal and while many were unfit to challenge that narrative, there were many who wanted to see him dead. Aerendyl tried to give off the impression that he was above those who watched him and that he did not care for their jealous eyes but Aerendyl was honest with himself internally… were it not for the Mages Guild being strong enforcers of their policies, Aerendyl and his crew would have been walking dead men.

Once again thank you to everyone that has shown an interest, I hope to see you all in the official startup that has just opened up!

As always feel free to reach out through PMs or through the OOC thread with any questions/concerns etc

The Story So Far...

The Great War

Nobody believed in the “Void” at first. Since the dawn of history, the beings from “the other side” were just a myth, a rumor that was used to scare little kids at night. Yet for all the monsters that existed in the current world from the great dragons in the skies or the fierce leviathans in the seas, nothing could compare to the demonic beings that spilled forth. The monsters that arrived were so cruel that even the most notable of vampire covens or fearsome of orc warbands that plagued numerous country sides were incomparable to the evil that killed indiscriminately.

Initially the sightings were just isolated incidents, and the world idly ignored the growing problem for some time. It did not matter if a village here or some town there was ravaged… the great kingdoms of the world had little care for the problems in other countries until the Void appeared on their shores.

As the world became fully consumed in war it became known that many countries were supportive of this new demonic regime that had emerged. Whether they collaborated to bring the Void into the world or simply submitted to them in the hopes of avoiding their wrath is simply unclear. The remaining kingdoms who opposed the Void and its allies rallied under a “Coalition of Order”. The Coalition which consisted of various great kingdoms and other free cities threw aside past rivalries and banded together to combat the enemy.

The war took countless lives, but the Coalition emerged victorious after defeating “The Chosen” the appointed war lord of the Void as well as finding a way to destroy and seal the portal gates that allowed the Void to enter the current realm. The peace that followed however was fragile. While some kingdoms recovered and even surpassed their previous strength, other kingdoms remained entirely devastated. Countless refugees spilled into foreign lands and many desperate survivors undertook all sorts of crimes to ensure their survival leaving the future unstable and uncertain.

Perhaps the most dominant of the factions that emerged from the war was the Mages Guild. Initially the Mages Guild was a private order devoted to all things science and magic who only invited the best and brightest to join their ranks. Yet with the war over the Mages Guild changed its policies and began to provide services to the remaining survivors of the world such as…
1. Providing loans to countries in need of money
2. Hire talented merchants, craftsman, farmers, sellswords and anyone of value and “rented” them out to countries in need to help rebuild.
3. Allow Mages to reverse the terraforming the Void inflicted on ravaged countries (an expensive and lengthy process)
4. Build and develop their private island into a massive seaport that served as a global hub so countries from every corner can trade goods in a singular area.
5. Perfected the use of magic conjurations to open portals at sea to increase the speed of travel. While portals existed in smaller fashion, only the Mages Guild developed portals large enough to transport trading vessels.

Initially many countries benefitted from a more powerful and collaborative Mages guild. The new global trade hub ensured countries began to connect more and profits soared. However, it wasn’t long till jealously and doubt began to fill the minds of the various rulers that once made up the Coalition. Some began to believe the Mages Guild was responsible for the Void invasion, believing that they tempered with ancient artifacts that ripped a hole in the dimension that allowed the enemy to spill forth. Others believe the Mages Guild foresaw the Void invasion and purposely hid their power, allowing the world to rip itself apart just so they can take advantage of the ashes. Regardless of blame, countries who could not recover from the war became so dependent that they were more or less owned by the Mages guild.

Since the war against the Void has ended, the Mages Guild has fully opened its once secluded island to the world. What once consisted only of a giant spire of knowledge in the middle of the sea has emerged into a grand seaport with taverns, brothels and trading centers that are unmatched throughout the world. The Mages even built a great “Arena” to entertain the various guests that arrived to provide legalized gladiatorial combat. If money was to be made the Mages Guild had part of it.

Chapter 1: The Mages Guild of Pandarosa

It has been a full 100 years since the end of the Great War. Despite the era being considered a time of peace and rebuilding, several kingdoms had engaged in smaller conflicts thus further shifting the hierarchy of power in the world and the old alliance that was known as the Coalition becomes increasingly a relic of the past. In response, the Mages Guild led by its council the “Enlightened Ones” has sent personal invitations to the great rulers of every country along with invitations to reputable mercenaries, scholars and any being of notability or status in the hopes of a grand gathering of great minds. While the timing seemed suspicious, its widely believed the Mages Guild wants to accelerate its growing business by showing off new secrets and technologies it had to offer the world in a grand celebration as well as attempt to keep the fragile global peace. Regardless of affiliation or reason, it seemed appropriate for people to attend, after all surely there was something of value to gain in the most diverse island in the world.

The Mages Guild remain quite protective of its island. Well trained and armed mercenaries act as the island’s personal army while a small but powerful fleet of warships secure the waters around the island. The Mages Guild also decreed numerous laws, examples including
1. Beasts of war and engines of war are prohibited. No exceptions
2. Limits to the size of ships which basically prohibited any sizable warships. Upon arrival security is allowed to check any and all cargo being brought aboard as well as investigate any personal onboard.
3. There was no fighting allowed on the streets regardless of fault. Any personal vendettas were to be settled in the Arena at a time deemed appropriate.
4. The Mages Guild were free to adjust and deviate from the law if necessary. Their island, their rules.

While there were some countries that have the militaries to challenge the Mages Guild and its allies, no kingdom dared to make any sort of aggressive action towards the world’s leader in science, magic and trade in the belief that attacking the Mages Guild, meant an attack on the world itself.

With the celebration beginning, individuals and their retinues from all over the world of various backgrounds for whatever reason arrive each day. From the top of the Iron Spire located in the center of Pandarosa, the eyes of the Enlightened Ones watch with keen interest...

RP Guidelines

1. The usual no God-Modding, taking control of other people’s character without permission etc…
2. Ironically due to the nature of the RP, there WILL be top of the line, extremely powerful characters, entities, factions and thus I will try and establish characters of such significance to set the “bar” to not go over. Also, such characters/entities/factions will be limited and thus not everyone will be able to start off at such an extreme level. I will only grant such levels to people I feel are trustworthy and understand what is attempting to be established.
3. While I intend to be flexible, please try to make characters that fit the setting. A wandering sellsword? An exiled price seeking redemption? A Void sympathizer/agent? Go for it! An alien from outer space attempting to fit in? Nope.
4. The established story provided is meant to establish an outline for what has happened in the past and where things may be trending for the future. Other details are purposely kept vague/flexible to help accommodate others.
5. The use of multiple player-controlled characters and NPCs to supplement stories is encouraged.
6. The setting is set around High Fantasy. Cannons, blunderbusses, Airships(like those in WoW), Beasts of War such as Dragons, Leviathans, Hydras are all permitted (within reason). Having said that no lasers, automatic bullet weapons, nukes etc. Any questions on feel free to ask
7. While this is a casual RP, I am expecting a good amount of detail though I am not asking for a novel. Simply put, post with purpose.
8. Rules are subject to change if necessary.

Character Sheets

Hey !
After going through all of that info up top I can say I am interested, and have one or two concepts for characters in mind - and some questions!

You are going to be controlling some story-important characters and the like; am I to understand that we will be controlling mostly solo characters or does this RP have Nation-esque notions?

Also I had a question about these invitations sent far and wide; is it simply invitations to the island or are we (if invited) supposed to attend one big event towards the start of the story? I'm only asking because I want to think up stories that will lead to interactions with other players - not a big fan of aiming aimlessly by my lonesome. :P

It can have both and I encourage the use of multiple characters provided you dont go crazy with it. If you want to create your own kingdom/grouo by all means you are feee to do so.

As for the inivitations, all player characters are there for reasons you can create. If you create a character of nobility perhaps you were formally invited but if you are a sellsword for example you hear of this grand gathering in the hopes of meeting potential new clients etc. Ideally this gathering hopefully encourages player interactions as I move certain plot characters around to advance the story

Just added quick overviews for the characters/factions I'll control in the opening post in case people were curious and needed some inspiration.

Ultimately I'm thankful for those who have taken the time to check this out and if the interest remains and people want to proceed, I'm sure we can do so in the next couple of days.
Any specifics on playable races that we must abide by or can we concoct anything we want provided it is fantasy related? I have a couple of ideas, but I'll pm you to see if they'll be allowed.

I intend to be pretty open with what's playable though a little back-round helps. For example if someone were to make an orc character, they would have to put some elaboration on if they are more like an Orc from the elder scroll series or from something else. Or perhaps if someone was to make a human character that had participated the Great War (which would have been difficult considering it's been over a hundred years) they would need a good explanation as to how that's possible... special blood line? (Going to try and be lenient with this sort of thing) or perhaps due to other magical properties?

Also in case anybody was curious I myself was planning on playing the elven king and prince of an established kingdom that is capable of rivaling the Mages Guild. Information on the faction and the characters will be provided later on just so people can get more ideas. As indicated earlier I want to establish pretty quickly what is considered "strong" in this setting though I think it's apparent why the Mages Guild for example can be seen as a dominant faction.
