Vanessa sat in the backseat of the car. To anyone else, it might appear as if she were playing on her phone. In actuality, she was mentally conversing with it as she typed up the notes for a new project she wanted to work on. When it came to technology, there was always more to do, to learn, to expand upon. She wanted a challenge. She did not want to be sent to some summer camp. But her parents wanted to tour Europe again, and they decided she'd be better off not going, Psh. As if this was about her. No, it was all about what they wanted, it was always only ever about what they wanted.
She was momentarily distracted as they arrived, and she tuned them out as they gave some mini-lecture about something or another that really wasn't important to her. She brushed them off as they let, the only win for her this round.
