Haruka Sanegeyama

In the moments it took her to recover from her self-embarrassment, which had her leaned over the counter with a strong feeling of regret tearing its way through her torso, Donny returned and spoke up. Haruka met eyes with him and upon seeing his smile, she allowed herself to calm down a bit and stood up, straightening herself out once again. "Y-yeah," She said with a nod, feeling determined again. They were getting in there and about to make some good stuff, she could feel it.

After Donny washed his hands, Haruka took a turn to do the same, watching as he washed the rice off. He then transferred it to the steamer, revealing its secret applications to her. She understood now. It wasn't quite technological enough to count as her Qurik taking effect, but it was new knowledge all the same. "Ooh," she mumbled. This was interesting.

Once more, a request came, and Haruka gave a firm nod. "Okay, sure. Fish and eggs. Sounds good," she said in agreement with the requests. "Be right back!" Immediately, she went to the food storage, where she began to search the meat locker for a few things. Salted fish, eggs, simple fillings like that. She picked some tuna and looked through the eggs, searching for the tiniest ones she could find. Luckily, a carton of absolutely miniscule eggs was soon uncovered, and she took a moment to examine them.

"How can something even be so tiny? Whatever comes out of those must be small as hell. I don't think I've ever actually seen a quail..." She shook her head to get her thoughts away from the distraction, and with proteins in tow, a detour was taken to the pantry shelves. She grabbed a bottle of mayonnaise, since she at least knew her dad used it as an ingredient for tuna-filled ones, and a handful of spice bottles that smelled good.

Now that everything was gathered, she returned to the workstation with Donny, presenting what she had gathered. "I got the eggs here, and some tuna and mayonnaise for another filling? My dad makes something with this, but I'm not sure what all he puts in." She set the spices up in a row, to show what she'd gathered even if it was mostly at random.

Haruka smiled in return when Donny shook her hand. It made her feel slightly at ease that she wasn't the only one in class who had some trouble with socializing. Donny's stuttering was all too familiar a feeling, but the fact that he had worked up courage to approach her and include her was nice. "It's, uh, s'nice to meet you, Yang-San." When the handshake ended, she immediately put her hands back together, as was habit when doing something that made her a little nervous. At the very least, she was maintaining most of her composure, despite the very noticeable flush of pink on her pale cheeks.

At Donny's request, Haruka nodded. "Oh, y-yeah! I can do that," When he went to talk to someone else, Haruka went to the station with a goal in mind. "Heating water is easy. Even I can do that. Heck, I've done that. This won't be too bad. Determination flowed through her veins, and as she approached the table, so did the burning spirit of oncoming success. There was literally no way she could mess this up, aside from maybe splashing water on herself, but then she'd be able to just take the uniform's jacket off. It was foolproof, quite literally.

Upon arriving at the workstation, she looked everything that he had set up over. The steamer looked interesting, but she had not even the slightest clue how to use such a thing, so she didn't touch it. "Best to leave the complicated stuff to Donny," she thought, taking the pot and scooting it toward the sink. It was an older piece, like something she'd expect grandparents to own, passed down through generations.

As she set the pot beneath the sink spout, one hand turned on the water, and watching it flow out of the tap into the pot was perhaps the most intense feeling she'd ever had while filling up a pot. She was doing it, and hadn't messed it up yet. She turned off the sink before removing the pot - very important to reduce splash incidents - and transferred it to the stovetop on the work station.

"Okay, here we go," She thought to herself, taking hold of the burner's knob. She pushed it in and turned it, and as the ignition clicked, she balled her other fist and braced herself for the oncoming flame. The gas was turned to flame after a couple clicks, and she then adjusted it to high-medium heat and released it. Success.

"I did it!" she thought aloud, pumping her fist victoriously. It took a few seconds to register that she'd said it aloud, and once she did, she reeled and just about died on the spot. Hopefully everyone else was too busy with their own work to notice.

Clemont's direct praise towards her made Haruka blush a pretty bright shade of pink. She anticipated feeling an immense, crushing pressure from being pointed out, but when it came along with a compliment? It was different. Kind of nice, even. She smiled back, and though she didn't say anything aloud (she knew damn well she'd be fumbling over her words and would ruin the moment) she shot Clemont a nice thumbs-up. Very smooth. When he continued on with his lessons, Haruka settled back into her seat and listened, taking in the information he relayed to the class.

"Onigiri, huh? Can't be too hard," Haruka thought. Her dad made it all the time, and she had helped him do it when she was a kid. Well, kind of. At best, she just sort of handed him handfulls of rice that he'd touch up with shaping or sprinkled the seed toppings across the finished product. But it was simple, thank goodness for that, and the only real potential for disaster she could imagine was making the rice overflow while it cooked. She wasn't used to fancy, classic instruments. A rice cooker was about one of the few things she knew how to use, given the ease of it's "drop in and ignore for a while" manner of cooking.

Of course, since nothing could be easy, she began to complicate things for herself. "Hm, what about filling? I like the tuna ones dad does...But what are the ingredients for that? Damn it. Okay, not that one. Anko, maybe? No, no, no, that would be too sweet..." Biting her lip, she began to feel a bit nervous again. She didn't want to make the most bog standard example of herself possible, but if she went a step further, that only increased her chances of failure. "Come on, idiot, can't you even get through one thing that's even a little hard without freaking out?" She silently scolded herself, trying to get a handle on the situation again.

Her leg began to shake, heel bouncing off the floor at a pace that was more rapid than someone would think a girl of her build could manage to move at. It stopped suddenly when Donny approached and spoke to her, and she looked up to him with her current expression of overflowing anxiety. It wasn't until she had a few seconds to realize it was him and see what he was holding did she calm down, just in time for him to ask her a proper question.

"My god, you're a savior," Haruka thought, nodding as she swallowed a knot in her throat before she spoke up. "Y-yeah, if that's not t-too much trouble?" She answered, getting out of her seat and straightening out her uniform a bit. She hesitated for a moment, but then stuck a hand out. People greeted like this, she was pretty sure. "I, uh, I'm Haruka. S-Sanegeyama."

@Lucius Cypher
@Inkarnate At least. I don't have to deal with 'em anymore and I get to laugh at the absurdity of the whole situation. That's like, at least 1/3rd of a win.
Leaving a roleplay because the GM is a grade-a megalomaniac cunt only to see them claiming the reason people left is because they weren't advanced enough is always hilarious.

At Clemont's entrance, Haruka straightened herself up a little bit, trying not to look too slumped over while also attempting to remain as neutral in the crowd as possible. She cringed internally when he opened the class with a question. Quite frankly, Haruka didn't know. Cooking was far from a strong suit of hers, and any specifics absolutely escaped her. "Just keep quiet and listen," she thought, fidgeting slightly. Her fingers clasped together, thumbs rubbing up against one another. "If he calls on you, don't freak out, just say you don't know. Class is for learning. It's fine." Though she remained nervous, she was trying her best not to let it get to her. Pursed lips and an avoidance of eye contact with Clemont gave her away, but fate was merciful and other students answered.

She paid mind to what they said regarding actual kitchen safety, and while the input of the girl who was apparently heat-resistant was interesting, Haruka had no such advantages and didn't pay it too much mind. Though it did bring a thought to mind regarding some downright terrifying videos she had seen during those late-night internet binges. After Donny spoke, Haruka cleared her throat and decided to throw in as well. "U-uh, don't use water to put out a grease fire?" She stammered out, not with much confidence behind the answer despite having witnessed some clear evidence as to why it was a bad idea. After giving her answer, she slunk down into her chair, glancing at Donny again. "Man, that guy knows his stuff," she silently thought, hoping to be able to do a sort of watch-and-learn when the actual cooking portion of class started.

@pkken@Lucius Cypher
Yeah, no worries about that. I'll be sure not to waste time bothering with you again.
I'm pulling out of this one, sorry @Temperance.

So far, Haruka's day had been pretty good. Ever since coming to the school, she felt as if she were really accomplishing something big, and though she still hadn't been anywhere near sociable, something about the school itself just made her feel good. It was a nice place, and there were all sorts of interesting people there. Not many she felt comfortable approaching on her own, of course, but maybe if she gave it some more time. After the lunch break came the electives, of which she had chosen Culinary Arts. Hero Gear had sounded interesting, but it would have passed by far too quickly to be engaging for her if the gear had been especially technological. She could always just give some of the more common pieces a quick look-over at a future time, she thought. For now, she picked something that would be useful for her to learn. Culinary arts sounded low-stress and could give her some life skills that she didn't yet have. As much as she enjoyed food, her skills were pretty much limited to boiling water and sticking things in microwaves. Since she was in a dorm, she needed some way to keep herself from starving. Instant noodles could only carry someone so far in life.

With a small piece of paper in her hand, upon which the room number was written, she walked through the school looking at doors and following the numbers in the right direction. She stopped in front of a door that had a number matching her paper, slid it into one of her uniform's jacket pockets, and took a breath. "'Kay, here goes," She mumbled quietly, opening the door and peeking inside to see who was there. When she saw a handful of people, she immediately realized how weird it was to only have her face peering through the door. Reflexively, she opened it more and stepped inside. It didn't take long for another revelation to hit her, that being that the way she walked in had been pretty darn bizarre. "Oh my god you idiot just sit down before anyone sees you," she silently thought, slipping away from the door before it closed, so that the sound of that didn't draw any unwanted attention.

Haruka took a seat as quickly as she could, slipping off her backpack on the way over to one of the tables. It was decorated with pins that had interesting designs, a variety that had been taken from her tokusatsu shows she enjoyed, as well as a keychain of a super-deformed styled Kamen Rider. She positioned it next to her chair, and once seated, took another deep breath and closed her eyes for a minute. "It's fine," she thought to herself, exhaling. "You made it. It's all good now." When she opened her eyes again, she decided to look over the other students in the class. Nobody she recognized from passing meetings, though some of them stood out quite a bit. In particular, she decided that if she ever was forced to partner up with someone, she would go for Donny. He looked non-threatening and approachable, and she guessed from appearance that he liked food enough to know what he was doing with it. While thinking about that, her eyes lingered for a moment, but swiftly looked away once she realized that she had been doing so.

Appearance: Haruka is physically unimposing. Short, pale, and a little chubby, she's not what most would consider their definition of a hero. There's nothing in the way of notable muscle in her build, but school activities keep her from being completely physically hopeless. Her face is round, and while she's got good features, she tends to always look a little sleep-deprived and doesn't smile a lot. Her lips are naturally downturned and her eyebrows are flat, which go a long way to make her look irritated even when she isn't. The eyes themselves are dark blue, and her hair is a shade of seafoam right between blue and green. It's long and a bit messy naturally, and instead of bothering to properly deal with it, she just ties it back and calls it a day.

Costume: Haruka's costume is technological in nature, constructed from various technologies and the use of her quirk. It's intentionally built to resemble the heroes of tokusatsu TV shows, and thus has simple colors and a smooth exterior finish. A black bodysuit underneath the armor shows through the joints, and on the legs, black thigh plating meets a large belt with a lime green, v-like 'buckle.' From the knee down, a boot-like design in metallic green takes over. Her midsection is covered with darker grey plating that also covers the groin and biceps, and more green frames her sides and chest. The armor here is built up a little, giving the illusion of a more heroic and masculine body build. Green layered shoulder pads attach to the bicep armor, and bright white gauntlets and gloves cover her arms from elbow-down. On her head, she wears a fairly simple rounded helmet with slightly emphasized ear covers, a solid blue visor, and a large lime green crest that's similar in shape to the belt buckle. Similar lime green pieces are on her elbows, shoulder blades, and chest, while her visor and various lights on her midsection, thighs, and biceps are all bright blue.

Hero Name: Cyborg Hero Hypermeka

Name: Haruka Sanegeyama

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Height: 5'2"

Weight: 145 lbs.

Personality:
To put it kindly, Haruka is a shut-in. A handful of anxieties keep her from being especially sociable, but she's come to mostly accept it and go with the flow instead of wasting time angsting over her awkwardness and quiet tendencies. While not unfriendly at all, she just doesn't have a good time approaching strangers or talking at length with anyone less familiar than a very close friend. As such, the number of these friends is few, though she appreciates and loves them for sticking around for long enough to get there. Haruka doesn't really expect folks to give her much in return for her unwilling distance, but once those barriers get worn down, she's sweet as can be, and there's not much she enjoys more than spending her time with people like that. That said, she does still need time to herself quite often.

Due to the free time that comes from commonly being alone, Haruka has come to adore certain media that makes her happy. In particular, the tokusatsu genre in all of its costumes-and-special-effects glory. The action, the stories, the excitement, all of it. To say she's a little obsessed is an understatement, as a peek into her bedroom would prove very quickly. One of her most prized possessions is a 1TB harddrive with every toku show she can think of on it, whether new and expertly choreographed or awkward, clunky, no-budget drivel from the 70s. She considers tokusatsu in all forms to be like a fine art, and sharing it with people is one of the easiest ways to get her to talk, and she tends to get quite excited over certain things in particular.

In her heroic persona, something she's spent far too long in front of her bedroom mirror practicing, she's much more outgoing and confident. Her costume offers her a sense of anonimity and the ability to be one of the heroes she looks up to, and in it, it's almost like she's a different person. She can be loud, flambouyant, and more than a little bit cheesy in her delivery of lines and conversation. One day, she hopes to have the confidence her costume offers for herself in her day-to-day life, though for now the distinction remains quite obvious.

Background: Raised by a single father and plagued by strong anxiety that struck her in childhood, Haruka has never really been confident in herself. Growing up, she had few friends and not many people to confide in, so she spent much of her time with her dad when he wasn't busy at work. He had a quirk similar to hers, and his ability to control technologies gave him a very successful career as a computer and TV repairman. He didn't think of himself as heroic, given his physical frailty and his self-described lack of bravery. The risks of heroism were too great, so he dedicated himself to being a good father and providing for Haruka instead.

Haruka spent a lot of time getting to learn about her dad's interests, and took to using computers at an early age. She used them to play video games and generally spend time on, though she found herself with a much deeper understanding of the processes of technology than a kid could have gotten by simply screwing around for fun. It became clear that her quirk had begun to manifest, and by age 10, she was taking apart and building exceptionally powerful rigs without so much as a second thought. If parts weren't strong enough, she'd take them apart and put them back together three times as good. It could've been a grand moneymaking skill, but she soon found other interests.

One day, she came home from school to find her dad tuning into a new season of a show that was part of an exceptionally long-running franchise, something that he'd watched when he was a kid himself, Kamen Rider. Haruka immediately fell in love with the series. It reminded her of the heroes at large in the world, but there was something special about it in particular that clicked with her. The flair, the style, something that no hero she knew of exactly matched. Over the next couple of years, Haruka took in more and more of the tokusatsu genre. Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Garo, kaiju films, anything she could get her hands on.

It put ideas into her head. If no hero like the ones in her shows existed yet, maybe she could be that hero? She began dreaming of it, imagining how she could help the heroes in their quest to protect the innocent from evil, and how nobody would even have to know who she was behind the mask. She could be someone else, someone not bogged down by their social anxiety, someone who wasn't afraid to help people. She spoke proudly of her intentions, and spent time in her room practicing her "hero voice," as she called it, while using a Kamen Rider belt toy as a prop.

But she remembered her quirk, and how little use it would give to her in a fight. Even if she had the costume and the flair, what could she do with a power that let her fix computers? At first, she ignored the concern, convinced she could figure out something else. Maybe physical training could be enough? But in the end, she knew that it wouldn't be, and her idealistic dream spiraled away from her. Her excitement died, replaced with a melancholy feeling of uselessness and a broken dream.

Her father stepped in to help her out of the rut she'd fallen into. After running a marathon of Haruka's favorite toku show, he revealed to her something that he had kept secret. He was once part of a heroic duo made of himself and Haruka's mother, where he acted in a sidekick role to help maintain and support her mother's heroics, as her quirk essentially made her into a natural cyborg. Together, they were an effective duo, but Haruka's mother died only a year after she was born in a villain attack. Haruka's father could not perform heroics on his own, and had given up to make sure Haruka had a good life. It was clear to him that with how she felt, he wasn't accomplishing that.

He encouraged Haruka to follow her dreams and become the hero she wanted to be. He told her of how much more she could accomplish with her quirk, and that if she set her mind to it, she could learn how to use it effectively and follow her dream. He offered Haruka her mother's old helmet, though he encouraged her to personalize it and make the legacy her own. Haruka was uplifted out of her despair with this newfound knowledge, but didn't know where to begin.

Her father immediately offered to enroll her into Komei Academy. Haruka was almost overwhelmed by this. Her path became clear, and the way was open to her to become who she had wanted to be and protect those who couldn't protect themselves. She could make a name for herself. She could be the change in the world that she thought it needed.

She could become a hero.

Quirk: Technopath
Haruka is able to control technology with her mind and understand it within moments of examining it, so long as it abides by her general understanding of technology. Things like computers, cellular phones, and machinery are things she knows like the back of her hand. While she could easily utilize her powers to simply control the functions of these kinds of machines, she's taken it a step further and used her quirk to create and control the functions of a set of powered mechanical armor. The armor requires no power source due to the use of her quirk actively manipulating the costume and its functions, and it has the ability to generate and utilize in-built weaponry for combat while also giving her a general boost to strength, agility, and durability. It also adds a robotic filter to her voice and deepens it slightly. Any technology under the influence of Haruka's quirk emits a bright blue glow, such as the lights on her costume.

Due to fighting with the suit itself rather than physically exerting herself, she can last as long as her quirk is activated, though it also means she doesn't physically improve herself at all in the suit, and she's potentially vulnerable to the quirks of other technology-using people. Additionally, maintaining her quirk under physical distress can be challenging. Even if the suit protects her, she can definitely still feel the pain of impacts. The more worn down she gets, the harder it is to keep her suit going, and if her quirk deactivates while she's inside, she'd be trapped within. Putting the suit on and taking it off actively rebuilds part of the back, and without her quirk's use, getting her out would require destroying it.

Talents: Haruka could be said to be a good actor, considering the personality split between her normal self and her costumed self. In an entertaining twist, she could very well have a promising career as a tokusatsu suit actor if hero business doesn't work out for her. Likewise, she has exceptional knowledge of tokusatsu itself, from various shows to behind-the-scenes trivia and where to get them from. Outside of tokusatsu, due to her quirk, she's very good at building and maintaining computers for her friends, and tends to provide them with quirk-modified pieces to keep them top of the line.
