TRYING TO DEFINE YOURSELF IS LIKE TRYING TO BITE YOUR OWN TEETH, impossible and preposterous. Sure, you can learn to understand what makes you tick and what your thought processes are, but how can you truly define who you are when you, as a person, are continuously changing? Every day we evolve; we’re constantly gaining new life experiences that ultimately shape and remold us into our current selves. Therefore, it’d be foolish to characterize or define ourselves by a few temporary qualities, right? Annalise Carver didn’t try to define herself. Sure, she was usually seen as the "sweet" youngest child of the town mayor who followed the rules and obeyed her parents no matter what, but is that who she would still be in the next couple of years or months, even? What if she woke up one morning and realized that after spending a whopping eighteen years preparing to become a politician like her father, or a doctor like her mother, that she really wanted to follow her dreams and become a dancer? What if she decided that she no longer wanted to be labelled as "the town's sweetheart?"

It was highly unlikely that either of these things would happen, but Annalise couldn’t help but wonder as she stood in her bathroom mirror and carefully brushed her teeth. It was almost eleven o’clock in the morning, just a few hours before she would have to throw on her nearest pair of shoes, grab a quick cup of coffee, and drive down to the lake to help her father with whatever is was that he needed to do. The young woman had went home the night before at about two or three o'clock in the morning after having a good time at the Edge nightclub; after seeing the state that her friend Olivia Horton was in by the end of the night, she was glad that she'd only had a little to drink and managed to get herself and her friend home safely.

Today was a new day, and Anna was feeling good. After finishing up in the bathroom and getting dressed, the young woman made a beeline for the kitchen. As usual, her parents were nowhere to be found; although it was a "holiday," both the hospital and mayor's office were still open for business, which meant that she wouldn't be seeing much of her parents until they were finished with work. This was fine by Anna, however, solely because it gave her more time to do her own thing before the festivities would begin. Perhaps she should go visit a few of her friends for a bit, or find something to gift the eldest Zima daughter for her birthday?

It wasn't until after Anna had finished brewing a pot of coffee that it dawned upon her to check up on Olivia. After all, the younger girl did have a great deal more to drink than Anna had, which unfortunately meant that she was probably puking her brains out at that very moment. After pouring herself a cup of the warm, dark liquid, Anna seated herself at the dining room tale and shot a few quick text messages to her friend. "I hope she didn't get into any trouble," the young woman muttered under breath before hitting send and taking a large gulp from her mug.

After spending what seemed like forever playing back to back games of solo 8-ball, Aulora Kelly finally grew tired of being cooped up in her hotel suite. After all, she was in Las Vegas; she should be out exploring and spending money on useless knick-knacks and souvenirs. She soon found herself checking her cell phone for what seemed like the hundredth time, scrolling through the group chat and wondering what the rest of the wedding party was up to. While she was very much looking forward to linking up with her girls as soon as possible, she didn’t want to bother them within their first few hours of arriving. β€œThey’re probably still settling in,” Aulora said to herself as she set the billiard balls back in their respective spots at the center of the table, β€œI’ll just catch up with them later.” Instead, Aulora slid her feet back into her sandals, grabbed her purse from the bedroom, and headed back towards the resort lobby. β€œMaybe I’ll hit up that cute little weed shop,” the young woman mumbled to herself as she rode the elevator down to the main floor, β€œI can buy a few sweets for later.”

So that's what Aulora did. She called an Uber and took the quick, ten minute drive to the nearest dispensary. The young woman bought more than enough to share with her girls, of course, but also picked up a bit for her to enjoy alone later that night. In fact, when Aulora arrived back at the hotel, her initial plan was to make a beeline for her suite and spark up. This all changed, however, once she caught sight of the mall entrance. Without hesitation, Aulora quickly headed into the shopping mall, carefully weaving her way through the crowd. Her eyes instantly lit up as she spotted the multiple clothing and jewelry stores that were situated around the mall. "Jesus Christ, I'm gonna be broke as Hell after this trip," Aulora muttered under her breath before strutting into the closest boutique.

Soon, Aulora Kelly was making her way back towards the front of the mall, three shopping bags in one hand and a cup of cinnamon pretzel bites in the other. The young woman even pulled out her cell phone at one point, struggling to balance her cup of food in the same hand as she scrolled through the group chat once more. She immediately regretted this decision, however, when she suddenly collided with another body. Aulora's cell phone and pretzel bites went flying out of her hand, but thanks to her quick reflexes, she managed to save her phone just before it hit the ground. Her pretzels, however, did not share such luck; the last few bites came tumbling out of the cup and onto the floor. "Maybe next time you should fucking watch where you're-" Aulora stopped mid-sentence when she finally turned to face who she'd bumped into.

"Astrid?"

β€œAnyway, so I talked to daddy about getting you in at the office..."

Chanel Martin instantly perked up at the mention of Jason Macmillan, a world-class fashion designer who also happened to be Julie's father. Landing the opportunity to work for someone like him would be a dream come true for the aspiring designer; not only would it be something to put on her design school applications, but it would also give her a slight edge over the competition when it comes time for her to find internships and apply for jobs in the field. She wasn't even slightly disheartened when she heard that she'd probably end up spending her time cataloging the different pieces for Mr. Macmillan's fall and winter collection; it was better than nothing, after all. "God, you're amazing," Chanel said to Julie, not bothering to mask her enthusiasm, "Girl, you know this really means a lot to me. You're the fucking best." Before Chanel could continue to express her excitement, she noticed that her friend had begun to scan the sea of students once more, and decided to join in.

The first thing that caught Chanel's eye was obviously the small crowd that was beginning to form in the parking lot. The young woman watched with curious eyes as an unfamiliar girl made her way to the group, AndrΓ©s De la Fuente following behind her. Her eyebrows raised a bit as she watched the girl run her fingers through Johnny Baxter's hair and speak a few words; she could tell by his reaction that things weren't going to end well for the new chick. Before she could continue watching, however, Chanel's attention was suddenly redirected to an odd looking couple that stood not too far away, thanks to Julie.

"Well, this is painful to watch," Chanel said as she watched the pair pick up the books that the girl had dropped, "Cute, but painful." She didn't recognize the two at first glance, but after wracking her brain for a few moments, she finally recalled one of their names. "That's that girl who won the chess championship or whatever. Her name's Aaliyah or something..." Chanel's voice trailed off as she carefully took in the girl's features. Although she was sitting pretty far away, Chanel could tell that the girl had a beautiful face; her bone structure was flawless, her skin seemingly without much blemish, her nose straight, her mouth ideally proportioned. Her legs were long and slender and her body slim; she had the build of a runway model for sure, but the grace and poise of a newborn deer. "Nothing a quick weave, a bit of makeup, and some confidence can't fix," Chanel said optimistically as she analyzed the girl's uniform, "...and maybe an iron, as well."

Then her eyes landed upon the boy, and she struggled to remember his name as well. "Elijah," Chanel finally said to herself, "I remember seeing him with Johnny." Elijah was a lot more put together than Aaliyah, that's for sure, but that wasn't necessarily a good thing. He was plain, from his boringly neat haircut all the way down to his neatly pressed khaki pants. Chanel simply sighed and shook her head as she did a quick once-over of the boy's ensemble; where was his personality? After watching the couple for a few more seconds, Chanel winced and turned back to face Julie so that she wouldn't have to watch any more.

"This will definitely be a challenge," Chanel sighed as she took a tube of lip gloss out of her purse, "but I think it could be worth it, so what the Hell." At the end of the day, Chanel just wanted to hurry up and push through the school year; but what better way to speed things along than to help out a few people by doing what she does best? As she applied her gloss, her eyes wandered back towards the area she'd first been inspecting; an even bigger crowd had formed, and the girl that she'd spotted earlier had now crumpled to the ground. She was curious, to say the least, and wondered if Johnny had anything to do with it all, but simply shook her head and refocused her attention on Julie.

"So, any other people you see that might need fixing?" Chanel asked in a joking manner, though she wouldn't be surprised if there truly were a few that her friend would name.
Give me like 30 minutes to an hour and I gotchu.

Paradise City
Thanks to his internal clock, Kavan Varma woke up at the same time he did every morning, and continued on to follow his daily routine as soon as he rolled out of bed. Without thinking, the young man pulled open his curtains, ready to let the first light of day seep through the window, slid his feet into the slippers that sat at the foot of his mattress, and headed to the hallway bathroom. He wasn't surprised in the slightest to see that it was already occupied. "You snooze, you lose," Amoli Varma said from the other side of the door. The siblings went through this nearly every morning, and it always ended the same: Kavan would yell and bang on the door for a few moments, telling his sister that she needed to hurry up so that he wouldn't be late, and she would stay locked inside for at least another thirty minutes just to spite him. This time, however, Van didn't even bother putting up a fight; instead, he made a beeline for the downstairs kitchen to get breakfast.

Upon entering the kitchen, Kavan was immediately greeted by the delicious aroma of aloo ke gutke, an Indian potato stir fry. The breakfast food was prepared by Saanvi, one of the many members of the household staff who'd been hired a few years ago when the family first relocated to the states. The elderly woman stood over the stove as Kavan took a seat at the kitchen table. "Smells good, Vi," the young man said as Saanvi placed a bowl of piping hot potatoes on the table before him, "As usual." The woman simply smiled and nodded her head before returning to her work. Kavan dug in as soon as the food cooled down, and found himself scrolling through social media as he ate.

After what felt like forever, Amoli finally allowed Kavan to take over the bathroom, and he was dressed and ready to go within the next hour. "Are you wearing eyeliner?" Amoli asked her brother from the passenger seat as he slid into the car and shut the door. Kavan simply smirked and shrugged his shoulders before buckling his seat belt and putting the vehicle in reverse. "Is that your thing now, Van? Guyliner? He prabhu, now you really look like a fucking pirate." Kavan simply ignored his sister, turning the radio up as loud as he could bear as he drove in the direction of her place of employment. "And I really wish you'd cut your fucking hair already. I don't know why you decided to grow it out again." It was in that moment that Kavan wished he hadn't agreed to drive his sister to work every morning until she got her car out of the shop.

After dropping his sister off, Kavan headed back in the direction of King's Academy, and pulled into his usual spot in the student parking lot just in time to witness a series of events unfold. The young man had just stepped out of his car when he saw none other than Johnny Baxter flip his shit at a smaller, unfamiliar young woman. Kavan didn't bother sticking around to see what had happened after that; instead, he decided to head in the opposite direction towards where he'd spotted Archer's rusty blue Saab just a few moments earlier. He wasn't surprised to see that Marisol Castillo was also in his company.

"Johnny-boy being a dramatic dick, as usual?" Kavan said to the duo once he'd drawn near the car, his nose slightly wrinkling at the sight of a cigarette. "It's too early in the morning and in the school year for that shit."
I'm here for it!
