@McHaggis Leaving it open ended. As long as Fumiko is on that roof, she good. Unless Jian blocks the boulder with a wall and some debris managed to hit Fumiko in the head.

“I agree.” Fumiko answered, her mouth dry as she focused on anything but the fight. Risky considering the flying boulders, but she was hoping that if she didn’t look at the fight, then the Dai Li wouldn’t look at her either. “We wouldn’t want to slip on ice. We might break our arms or legs or maybe our necks if we land badly.” Just imagining that scenario was enough to make her feel nauseous. She might’ve paled slightly upon thinking of it.

"I can give you a boost up there?"

Fumiko searched where Nilak was referring to and found the orange tiled roof. She stepped back away from him slightly so she could see if she could make the jump. From where she stood, it would be close to impossible unless she used the wall as a jumping point. But with Nilak, tall as he is, it wouldn’t be too difficult and wouldn’t require much energy for her to climb.

Fumiko returned her eyes towards the waterbender, noticing that he was ready to boost her up. She fastened her bag tightly against her back and readied herself for the jump. She nodded to herself and made to start, only for her movement to be halted abruptly as she saw a blur and felt the wind pass her.

She blinked and turned, seeing the White Lotus man trapped against the wall by the Dai Li’s rock glove. Another followed suit, trapping both his hands. Fumiko slowly moved her head and saw the same Dai Li agent, fear gripping her heart. A look of intense concentration was on his face and she noticed the cracks on the earth, too large for it to be any ordinary boulder.

Before he could hurl it, Fumiko called out to Nilak frantically, “I’m going up!” before running towards him, using his locked fingers as a foothold. It took less than a second before she grabbed the ledge of the roof and pulled herself up with his assistance. Her eyes scanned the area, finding various landmarks easily due to the fact that the land near the wall was in an incline.

Fumiko immediately made out her home no matter how small it was from this view and decided in that instant that she couldn’t afford to go near it. She already earned the ire of this Dai Li agent and she couldn’t risk her family. Her eyes passed a familiar teashop where Mei -- a Kyoshi Warrior -- worked and considered it for a second before rejecting the idea. It would be crowded, yes, what with the guardsman speaking about a plague or sickness spreading around but she frequented that location and she could drag Mei down with her if she was working. The warrior within her would no doubt demand proper justice if Fumiko was to be apprehended by the Dai Li.

No, she needed an area where she could maneuver herself but also lose the Dai Li in the crowd. She glanced at a tattered flag of Ba Sing Se with a symbol of a closed fist on the wall just under the flag; it was the mark for one of the many entrances of the Lower Ring’s underground bending arena. If she remembered right, it would be empty at this time of day save for the few people who had nothing to do but practice their earthbending, under the guise of a spar or a match.

The area around the entrances were always busy so it would be easy to slip quietly in the crowd. But, then again, Pu and Pa were regulars in the arena, having both their fair share of wins and losses. Could she really risk her family like tha--

BAM!

Dust rose from the ground and flitted to the air, the crash so hard that vibrations made it up to the roof. Her heart plummeted and her head turned to the commotion below. “No, Nilak!
@Milkman I just need a little clarification on your post (my eyes are seeing double, lol. Been reading research papers since yesterday). Dao just flung the White Lotus guy against the wall between the empty space of Fumiko and Nilak and they didn't get hit, right?

So, the position would be like:
(before white lotus got beaten)
[Nilak] [Space/Wall] [Fumiko]
(after white lotus guy got flung)
[Nilak] [White Lotus] [Fumiko]

And for Nilak-Fumiko interaction, should I just assume that Fumiko got boosted up the wall? @McHaggis I don't really know the protocol for this :v and I'm slightly rekted rn.
Same. Been busy with schoolwork and research papers.
@McHaggis Do you have any vision for the street paths or such? Or what Fumiko should see? Or should I just make stuff up so they can escape lol?

Everything was closing in.

There was no escape.

The press of bodies made too much of a formidable wall and there was no way to get out of this unscathed.

She always imagined her encounter with the Dai Li to be in the dead of night, awakened in her sleep as they trespassed in her home as they come to take her away. Her family wasn’t there. It was easier that way. Never in her life did Fumiko think that she would be the one to stumble into the Dai Li, not the other way around.

She felt faint but the sound of a boulder impacting solid rock made her jump, only to see the remaining remains of the boulder and the eyes of a Dai Li agent trained in hers. She tensed, unable to look away in fear of being seen as suspicious. She couldn’t afford any more attention on her. This was too much.

A sharp tug on her sleeves made her jump, Fumiko’s head snapping fearfully in its direction. She expected the person who physically attracted her attention to wear the hat and green clothes of the Dai Li, only to be surprised upon seeing dark skin and blue clothes. “Let’s get out of here, short-stuff!” He said, pulling her away.

Her feet followed the motion and the command, his voice grounding her. She gazed up at him, unfairly tall as he was, and slowly pieced together his identity from her not-so-brief times together with her cousin when their injuries were getting checked and healed. “N-Nilak?” Her voice was a whisper and cracked as she said it. “What are you doing here? Where are we going?”

Yet, her question was answered when Nilak stopped in his tracks and she did the same. She noticed how his hands motioned near his waterskin and she envied him in that moment -- to have the ability to freely defend himself with his own bending without consequence. Fumiko’s eyes found the commotion once again, only to meet the eyes of the same Dai Li agent, now sporting a bruised face and one hell of a glare. Not even a single passed before Fumiko averted her eyes from the man and focused on anywhere but him.

“W-we need to get out of here and fast before the situation escalates.” She cursed her stuttering. It made her look and feel weak. “If only I can see, then I’ll have some idea where we are and where we can go…”

Note: Attending a barbecue party at 8 in the evening is not fun, mostly when it's so cold your fingers are frozen and you might as well have been eating food that came out of the fridge. It was very tasty, though.

On another note, Dao's post is magnificent for Fumiko and just sped up my writing. Poor, poor unfortunate firebender. Should post within twenty-four hours.
@McHaggis Can I add in that Fumiko knows Nilak?
I'll start working on a post (gonna sleep for now for tomorrow's class) but I'll only be able to post it 60 hours from now.

It was said that one way to unnerve a fellow human was to stare unblinkingly at them. So far, Fumiko found it to be a useless piece of information, although a possible reason the guardsman was comfortable -- as comfortable one would be in telling the mass of Lower Ring citizens that they were forbidden passage to the Middle Ring in this current moment in time -- was because his gaze never locked with Fumiko’s. He was far too busy repeating the same announcement while answering the questions and concerns of her fellow citizens.

Seeing as Plan Gaze Unblinkingly at the Guardsman to Make Them Open a Passage to the Middle Ring wasn’t working, Fumiko braced herself and turned around, pushing against the tide of people closely pressed together. She hated diving into the crowd, honestly. First off, she was smaller than most people and most people could tower over her effortlessly. Second, there was always the threat of pickpockets seeing her as a great target, considering that she had nicer clothes compared to her fellow Lower Ring citizens despite the fact that all she had were parchment filled with information valuable only to her. Third, the press of bodies just plain stink. She may be fine with it, having lived all her life in the Lower Ring, but those in the University didn’t quite like it.

Lastly but never the least, Fumiko saw some Dai Li agent standing in the shadows.

The Dai Li just scares her and she didn’t want to be this close to them. It was safer to blend in the crowd, even if it meant quite literally in this case. Elbows jabbed her sides, feet almost stomped her own, stray hands almost snagged her bag and threatened to spill the documents on dirty ground. Noise was everywhere and she did her best to push the sounds away as she concentrated into arriving where no one would be so close to her.

All hope was not lost, however. Fumiko saw a clearing and she used all her energy to push her way through, even if it meant shoving away the other citizens. She’d take their scorn if it meant being free of this crowd. She breathed, a triumphant smile on her face as she declared a quiet, "Finally!" before stepping into the clearing. It was after a few seconds her blood turned cold and her smile froze.

A man with a white lotus tattoo was looking smugly at two Dai Li agents. Their words of conversation failed to register in her mind as the sound of her heart hammering against her chest and the blood rushing in her ears dominated everything. A boulder lifted from the ground and was sent flying towards the Dai Li.

Fumiko only stared, overcome in panic as her mind did its best to rally her body to move.
