Avani smirked and rolled her eyes as Kasai laughed and made her funny comments about what had transpired, and what Avani had done. This was the reason she had been so hesitant about even suggesting she needed Kasai in the first place. Apparently she couldn’t have her body react one way while her mind thought something else. “Well, Well. Who is the naïve one now?” Avani scoffed. “Just because I find your body attractive doesn’t mean I have to like you or anything. You invaded my personal space.” That was not entirely true either, but she would prefer it if that was what Kasai thought. She had her reasons for hating and despising Kasai, for one she was a little cop. Secondly, she’d been a distraction since they began this mission. Lastly she had refused to listen to Avani when she had told her to return home. She did find her physically attractive though, and she admired her stubbornness and refusal to be pushed around. “No, I’m not freaking bipolar.” Avani muttered, and then went on to mutter something else about typical straight girls below her breath. If she’d said it louder, they may have started to fight again. That would have been a bit of a shame when at least Avani had put her pride aside so they could find their friends faster, even if Kasai hadn’t and had instead mocked her for it. She was surprised when Kasai pulled out a map and pointed at a spot on it, saying they should head west. “Wait, where did you get a map of the spirit world from?” Avani supposed it wasn’t impossible that someone had come here before them to survey the area and create a map, but she hadn’t heard anything about it. She decided she’d steal it from Kasai once they had returned to Republic City. She wasn’t sure why she had assumed they were the first to enter this particular part of the spirit world. Avani followed Kasai in silence. She was happy that the firebender had finally gone silent. She liked resting her eyes on Kasai’s behind, and while she may have made it less obvious that she was admiring her before she didn’t try to hide it now, almost hoping that Kasai would catch her in the act of staring. “You know, even if I did shove my tongue down your throat as you say, you were certainly very welcoming to it.” She said after they had walked in silence for a long time, then she coughed and grinned. “Do you think I missed how you pressed yourself against me the second time? I guess I can’t blame you for wanting to knock me over, as you’re aware that I have problems standing and walking at the moment. This may be the only time you’d get to experiment without anyone else ever finding out about it, right?” Avani laughed loudly and heartily. “Tell you what, Lady Sergeant. If we ever get back to Republic city, give me a couple days to heal up and then you can come for a special visit. I swear on the spirits that I won’t tell a soul about how hungrily you’d eye me with that fire in your eyes or that we would have spent the whole day in bed. Actually, if I’ve regained my strength by then I could hold you up.” She laughed so hard that she had to pause in her tracks and catch her breath. “Trust me, just like you wouldn’t want anyone to find out you were into me, I wouldn’t want anyone to find out I was attracted to someone like you.” That last part was a lie, or it was a lie now that Ryuu was dead. He was the only one whose opinion she’d cared for. She wanted to protect herself though, from the pain and mockery that she feared Kasai had in store for her if they got too involved with each other. Straight girls could be a horrible temptation in a way. Look but don’t touch, or you will get your heart stomped on.
Claire watched Kate’s performance from the backstage area, where the curtain had been rolled aside to allow fellow members of the circus to watch their friends’ acts, but it still covered them from view for most of the audience. She didn’t flinch or look away once during Kate’s show, as some of the members of the audience did. Claire had seen Kate perform so many times that she was confident Elijah was as secure as he would be if he didn’t have blades, arrows or other things coming at him. It was enjoyable to watch Kate perform, even if Claire had seen pretty much every act enough times that she should be bored of them, she was not. The combination of the atmosphere of the circus, the audience and the different performers was lovely. It was home. They got to the end of their act, where Elijah was strapped to a spin board and Kate threw knives at him. Claire watched the first two miss Elijah like intended, but then the third hit him in the neck and she blinked a couple of times, shocked to see that it wasn’t her imagination running wild. “Get the doctor!” Claire roared to the assistants that were making sure everything was running smoothly backstage. One of the boys ran off to get the doctor that shouldn’t be far away. Despite what she’d said earlier, it wasn’t as fun to see the expression on Kate’s face or everyone else’s. It was disturbing and surreal. Claire turned her eyes away from the scene. This wasn’t supposed to happen and never had as far as she could recall. A moment later, she heard how the chaos among the audience turned to applause and cheers. When she looked at the scene again it seemed as if Elijah was unharmed, but how could that be? Kate and Elijah was lead backstage by the doctor that had arrived in a hurry. The man was concerned, but since he hadn’t witnessed what had happened he couldn’t possibly understand what was going on. Then again, Claire had been right there and didn’t grasp it either. She didn’t see her friend again before it was her own turn to step up to perform. Kate’s act wasn’t the only act where strange events had taken place. It was by far the bloodiest though. Claire knew some of the things that had happened tonight weren’t supposed too. In some cases, it had made the performers look much better than usual, and some cases had been like Kate’s. The clowns had exhibited abilities they’d never had, like how they fit six into such a small space or made the balloon animals come to life. One of the acrobats had fallen past the safety net, towards the ground, but begun to soar right before she hit it. Of course, to the audience that looked as if he had some kind of rope attaching her to the roof which she didn’t. They found it disappointing to say the least. Claire was nervous when she entered the ring. It wasn’t the regular old nervousness because she had to stand in front of hundreds of people. She’d worked past those years ago by now. She was genuinely concerned for her own welfare and the welfare of her kittens. Five of her cats were let out into the ring after her; Solomon, Sheila, Scar and two tigers by the name of Lee and Tang. There were a lot of impressed and approving noises among the audience as they saw Solomon. The props that had been prepared for her were a number of rings, beams to balance on and furniture. She held her whip in her hands, prepared and worried that she may have to use it on any one of them. The cats began to wander around the ring, glaring at the audience, clawing on the wooden furniture or playing with each other. Claire had taught them to control their play fighting in the ring, as normally they could trade serious blows and appear real frightening. To the audience it must appear as if the cats acted like they wanted too, not like Claire had taught them too. She had full control of the situation, but she wanted the onlookers to believe she had none to begin with. Solomon roared at the audience, then jumped up on the beam at the edge of the ring closest to them. He snarled at them, and Claire grinned on the inside. It would be bad press if she showed such an expression outwards when a wild animal was supposedly about to attack the audience. She let the whip sound against the ground, and Solomon turned his attention towards her. He leapt off the beam towards her, but Claire stepped aside as he was about to crash into her. She let the whip resound through the air again. “Down.” She said to Solomon, stretching out her hand towards his face. At first he snarled and growled, which raised her nervousness when he kept at it longer than he should, but eventually he gave in and lay down on the ground. Claire petted him and scratched him behind the ear. She smiled. The rest of the act went by as it should without a hitch. She tamed each of the cats before having them do their tricks with the rings and the beams. Those kittens that were not part of the current tricks moved around the ring in a circle, sometimes stopping to sit down and glare at the audience. The final trick to finish her act included setting fire to a couple of the rings, then having Solomon and Sheila jump through them one by one, and together. Claire got the torch to light fire to the rings while everyone observed her. Solomon and Sheila paid special attention at this part. “I hope the two-legged lion made sure the rings are larger this time. My fur smelled of smoke for days last time we did this.” Claire turned in the direction of the voice, but found Sheila and Solomon sitting there. She was about to finish lighting the fire, when she heard the growls and noises Solomon always made in a whole new way. “Two-legs has my trust and respect. You’re cranky.” Solomon said. She was surprised, but at the same time strangely overjoyed. Claire checked if anyone else had noticed the tiger and the panther speaking, but no, no one had. She heard someone humming a tune loudly, and turned to find it was Scar. “Come on, Four-legs, jump the damn ring to get your well-deserved rest and food.” Claire said to them. It was obvious that they were as surprised as she was that she could suddenly understand and speak with them. The audience didn’t know what to think when the lion tamer herself began to growl, snarl and mutter incoherently. All five of them jumped the fire rings after her promise of food and rest. The trick had never been trained with more than two at a time, but they did it so well she almost suspected they had trained without her. Claire bowed to the audience, then she lead her animals into their cages and skipped out of the big top, grinning from ear to ear. She realized that this was messed up and another sign of today’s freak show, but right then she was happy that she had gotten one chance in her life to communicate with her kittens on this level. She asked around for Kate until she found where she was. It had been a great day for Claire, but not for everyone. “How are you two holding up?” She asked with a highly inappropriate grin.
Would you edit that in then, or should I write it? Elena doesn't need to be shown as the source of it until later on.
I had an idea for how they'd find out where they had been taken. Mio could do what the female airbender does in the show, and project herself somewhere else than where she is.
Ah, well it could be that Elena actually makes it hit him, there's blood and he's in pain, but then she reverts it in front of everyone, so that it appears like if it was just trick. In reality he did get hit though, but somehow healed. Thoughts?
Loved the part with Claire and Kate. ;D I'm not sure how you want me to respond to that end though? If I had to have Elena affect it in some way she'd probably hit him and have blood sputter, but that wouldn't be a particularly long post. It may be better if you edit it. I don't particularly want to hurt your characters either, cause that feels like overstepping my bounds. :P (For the RP I'm currently GMing we use skype for collaboration posts, so I guess that could be a thing to use if you're cool with it.)
She could feel Kasai approaching from behind, but waited to see what the woman was going to do before reacting. Avani was spun around and came face to face with Kasai. Too close. Kasai was too damn close to Avani now. She could even smell her at this distance. She was spellbound by the fire in her eyes as she spoke. It didn’t come as any surprise to Avani what her reaction was to Kasai’s invasion of her personal space, and frankly she didn’t care what the little cop would think of it. With her left hand, she grabbed a hold of the back of Kasai’s head and hair, pulled her closer to her and kissed her on the lips. Avani closed her own eyes, enjoyed the forceful kiss and tried to slip her tongue past Kasai’s lips into her mouth. “I know” Avani said, once she’d stopped, but she didn’t let go off Kasai’s head. “I don’t have any medal to give you, Lady Sergeant.” She’d quite enjoyed the feel of Kasai’s lips and the expression on her face after she’d kissed her once, so naturally she did it twice. This time she got her tongue past her lips though, greeted Kasai’s tongue with her own and lingered like that for longer than the initial kiss had lasted. Avani let go off her hold on Kasai afterwards and turned her back towards her. “I doubt many would consider saving my life a good deed either, so I guess you lucked out this time. No promotion or reward for you.” “I’m going to find and save Mio, if there’s even a slim chance she’s alive. You may actually receive a reward for saving her. You know, since she’s a rare airbender.” Avani laughed mockingly, then began to move again. She walked slowly, both to let Kasai get the supplies and catch up if she planned on doing so, but also because she felt unsteady on her feet. Avani picked up a long branch she found on the ground, removing any smaller branches and leaves on it to turn it into a walking stick. She realized she did not know if the direction she had been heading was the one they had come from, or if her friend was likely to be that way. The corrupted sky could not be seen through the foliage of the forest. Avani had to admit her mistake to herself, but could at least blame it on the loss of blood making it harder to think rationally. She returned to their shelter, now able to move a bit faster thanks to the walking stick she had created. “So I guess I do not know which way we came from, laugh all you want.” She said to Kasai when she had returned to the shelter. “I suppose…” She swallowed what she’d been about to say, but what choice did she have? “I suppose… Um, maybe it would be for the best if we put our differences aside and worked together to find Mio…?” That had been a lot harder to ask than she had imagined it would be. It occurred to her then that maybe Mio wasn’t the only one that may have survived. What about the two guys on Kasai’s team? Well, now she’d already asked for her help, and there was no way to pretend like she hadn’t without looking like a tool herself.
“I’ll be fine without you.” She scoffed, but caught herself watching Kasai’s behind as the woman left their shelter. Avani thought about leaving Kasai to fend for herself when she could not hear her anymore. It was no more than she deserved, but when she came back with water for her she felt a tinge of guilt for thinking that way. Besides, Avani would be no better off alone at this point than Kasai. When she moved to take the canteen from Kasai their hands touched, but Avani forced herself to ignore the warmth she felt and hoped Kasai wouldn’t notice it on her face. “Thanks.” She muttered again. Avani drank some of the water, then poured a fair bit onto her arm. She groaned in a mixture of pleasure and pain as the cool water hit her damaged arm, and quickly put her left hand over her mouth to cover up the involuntarily noise she’d made. The silent atmosphere between them was already inspiring these kind of thoughts and actions, she didn’t need to contribute to it herself. She rose to a sitting position and leaned her back against the rock wall. She sat like that for a long moment, considering what her next course of action should be. She knew Ryuu was dead now, but could Mio be saved from whatever danger she had ended up in? Avani wanted to believe there was a chance she could rescue Mio, but she was weak at the moment and for every hour that passed it would be less likely that Mio was found alive if the spirits were this hostile to humans. They hadn’t finished the mission either. She honestly didn’t care whether they did or not. Avani would let Republic City burn if she could get Ryuu back. Such thoughts were meaningless, but it made her feel a little better about their complete and utter failure. Avani poked at her singed and scarred right arm with the fingers of her left hand. If she did get out of this world alive, back through the portal to Republic City, then she figured she would get a tattoo to cover up the horrible damage. She’d never wanted a tattoo before, but she’d had no reason to ruin her beautiful skin and body. Now it would be a work of art to cover up something worse, something she’d be reminded of every time she looked at it. They could probably make it look like a dragon wrapped around her arm – a dragon devouring a pig. She glared at Kasai as the last thought passed through her head. “I guess this is the result you get when you refuse to listen to your betters, right Kasai?” Avani whispered through clenched teeth, feeling the anger building within her. She’d sworn to control her anger and emotions better though, so instead of saying anything more she stood up by supporting herself against the wall and walked out of the shelter. Avani couldn’t see or sense any more of the corrupted spirits. She sighed in relief. She kind of wanted to turn around and apologize for what she’d just blurted out in anger, but too proud to do that she kept walking. She didn’t get far before she felt the light-headedness return, and staggered, reaching out for something to grab onto but failing to find something she created a rock pillar to balance herself on.
“Of course you are a princess. I noticed long ago, and would have tried to ransom you to a noble house if anyone had wanted you.” Claire teased. Kate’s rambling was soothing, too soothing, so it didn’t take that long for Claire to fall asleep. She was awakened by Kate shaking her and telling her to wake up. “Who said I was asleep?” Claire stretched her arms, legs and yawned. “You should relax more, princess.” She got back up on her feet, but when Kate was about to stand up as well she decided to have a bit of fun. Claire wrestled Kate to the ground, sat herself on top of her and put her hands under her shirt to tickle her stomach. To Claire, it was exactly like the innocent play fighting they’d done when they were kids. She had done it to make Kate laugh countless of times back then. Now some would think of it in a whole different way than two kids playing games. If Claire had cared or even listened at all to what others gossiped about her she’d know they talked a lot about how she was too into her cats or spending too much time with just Kate, both rumours implying the same thing. However, Claire had little to no interest in that part of life and being human. She’d already decided she would have no kids; for fear that they would suffer the same fate she had when ending up at an orphanage. What purpose did coitus serve then? “I guess we better get going.” She said, but remained motionless where she sat on top of Kate. The sun hit her face and the wind messed up her blonde mane. “Well, I’ve got time to spare, but you should get a move on since your act is before mine.” She grinned at Kate with closed eyes, until her friend would take some kind of action to get her to move off of her. The circus tent was packed with the first audience for their stay in London. The orchestra was playing some relaxing music, while everyone was preparing and getting ready behind the curtains. Elena would be the first to enter and do a brief but bombastic presentation of who they were. It was mostly a formality, because everyone knew who they were. There posters all over London by now. As the orchestra stopped playing, and a drum roll began, Elena stepped up to the curtain. She walked out from behind it, when the drum roll reached its peak, to meet the cheers and applause of the audience. “Ladies and gentlemen! Young and old!” Elena’s voice boomed through the big top tent. “Welcome to the Wanderlust Circus.” She did an elaborate bow, removing the top hat from her head and pulling out a bouquet of roses from inside of it. After she’d straightened her back and put her top hat back on her head, she threw the bouquet into the air above her where it exploded into a number of small yet colourful fireworks. “Have we got ever the show for you tonight, my friends!” Her voice boomed. “You have my word as the director of this circus that it will be an unforgettable experience.” Elena bowed once more when they cheered and shouted in return, then she turned around to walk back through the curtain, but instead of moving she disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Elena reappeared backstage. Fireworks and smoke were the tricks of children and normal magicians, however, what she had prepared for her magic act of the show towards the end was truly unforgettable.
Cool, looking forward to it then.
