(sorry late answer I only just saw your post now)
Nah two paragraphs is fine by me^^ If I'm into the story =P
No pressure :) And here's my own finished CS. If need be however, I can easily enough change Liam to female if there are not enough girls in the group (which very much seems to be the case right now xD Female character..? Anyone..?^^)
Name: Liam O’Neill
Age: 26
Gender: Male

Physical Appearance:
A rather young lad of 26, Liam sports mid-length, wavy chestnut brown hair that is either bound together behind his neck in a loose ponytail, or flowing freely and framing his slim face. He wears a short beard around his mouth, giving him a somewhat sharp, smart look. This impression is drowned out a bit by the somewhat bored look in the young bard’s brown eyes; though curious, his visage usually sports a not-so interested expression. Rather tall as he is, his slim frame is usually not hard to spot in a crowd, though never having been a worker he lacks the muscle to look as impressive as his height might suggest. With rather pale skin and green eyes, he might give off a slightly noble vibe if the situation is right.
Liam’s clothes are at first glance what one would expect of a traveler. A thick, woolen cloak of grey-white fur frames his slim figure, bolstering him against wind and weather. Beneath the cloak however, the bard in him becomes more visible; An olive colored vest is buttoned over a white silk shirt that is covering his arms and going over his waist, where it is held in place by a thick belt of brown leather, adorned with a rust colored buckle at the front. The buckled belt also holds in place Liam’s striped leaf-green and brown trousers made of the same silky material his shirt is made of. At his feet two travelling boots of dark grey colour show their age and heavy use with clay and worn out edges. Liam’s belt has an extension that not only goes around his waist, but also diagonally over his left shoulder and down his back, to hold in place the lute and backpack he always carries with him. At his waist and chest various tools are attached to the belt, such as a short hunting knife, his (almost always empty) coin purse and several pouches filled with miscellaneous objects he picked up and deemed useful.

Skills:
Liam is bard with the mind of a scholar, having been born to parents of these two trades. He plays the lute and has a certain, if somewhat limited, array of songs he can perform. Although his lute skills aren’t bad, one would have to forgo vocals when Liam is performing, as his voice is better suited scaring of birds than lull an audience. He is well versed in the art of storytelling and is familiar with a number of tales, from folksy myths to children’s rhymes. Liam knows how to read and write, and enjoys immerging himself into books and scrolls, thus broadening his horizon. He is a bit of an all-arounder in terms of knowledge, though he views his primary profession to be that of a bard, while his scholarly touch is more of a hobby to him.

Personality:
Liam is a naturally curious fellow. He has a quick mind and loves to learn. Talkative, yet not very skilled at interacting with people, Liam is either lovably awkward or annoyingly dull in personal matters, depending on one’s perspective. He is friendly enough, he is just not much of a people person, and tends to make obvious blunders in a conversation. With a quick mind, he grasps things rather quickly and they often pass the height of his interest fairly soon. Thus, he is easily bored once something has nothing new to add to his curiosity. While smart, he is in fact quite easily distracted, another symptom of being interested in many subjects and topics.

When he was younger he was very adventurous, though that has calmed down a little. As a matter of fact, he tends to be scared of easily when something seems dangerous or threatening.
To put it bluntly, Liam is no good at handling coin. Numbers are far out of his area of expertise, and this fact is often exploited by cunning minds. Although technically a smart guy, his occasional naivety, lack of social skill and sheer numbness to mathematics ultimately result with him being almost always broke.
While he still has a strong conviction to find Elayna, Liam could not help noticing that he in fact likes to wander the country. The serene solitude of traveling by oneself, the often short yet hearty companionship between fellow travelers, and seeing a new place on a day to day or week to week basis carved a deep experience into the young man’s heart that he grew to like over the years. Although he misses his home and his family and, most importantly of course, Elayna, he would not have missed this journey for anything in the world.

Biography:
Liam was born in Tarvsbury, a castle town in the western parts of Leyland and the seat of the local lord-commander and his court. Growing up here, Liam was a bright young lad. He was always naturally curious and loved exploring every nook and cranny. He was taught by both his parents from early on. His father was a bard who was known at the court of the local lord-commander for having a good singing voice and playing the lute, but he had not gathered any recognition beyond the castle walls. Liam’s mother was a scholar who had settled in this part of the country after meeting her future husband. From his father, Liam learned to play the lute and the storytelling skills a bard should possess. Regrettably, he did anything but excel at singing, a fact that would did not fade in time. His mother taught him to read, write and think about the world around him in a critical manner. Being of a somewhat naïve nature however, that last skill was somewhat lost on him, though he does have a certain perspective on things most of the time.

At some point in his late teens Liam fell in love with a girl. The girl happened to be the cousin of the lord's son, and thus of noble blood, but this was less of a problem than one might assume at first. Liam and the lord's son had become friends over the years, and things were a lot more relaxed there than in other parts. Since the lord's family was comparably laid back, Liam’s father was often allowed to linger at the castle whenever he performed, and so Liam spent some time of his childhood years here, growing to know Bradan and eventually befriending him. This bond between bard’s son and heir to the lord’s seat opened up many doors, including, unexpectedly, the acceptance of the lord when it came to the relationship between Elayna and Liam. Thanks to these lucky circumstances, love between Liam and Elayna was able to blossom nearly unhindered. She was a sweet girl, with a quick tongue hidden behind a treacherously sweet face, and twinkling eyes that shone with intellect. Liam was smitten, and she was equally inclined to the young, handsome lad with his awkward charm and his sweetly playing a lute. When Liam hit 20, the two of them moved to an empty house near the river and started living together. Liam began transcribing books for the local scholars and performing with his lute at the royal court, supporting his father with his strong singing voice but failing fingers. The stream of income was steady, if a bit small, and life was looking good.

But apparently it was not meant to last. A few weeks after Liam’s 22nd birthday, Elayna disappeared from the face of the earth. No one knew where she had gone, no one knew what happened. When Liam returned from performing at the court, there was no familiar playfully snippy greeting followed by a warm kiss when the door creaked open; only silence greeted him. People treated her disappearance like she had died. What else was there to do? There even was a funeral and a small feast in her honor. But Liam didn't buy it and neither did Brandan. After two month of painful grieving and wondering where she had gone to, Liam, accompanied by Brandan began researching. Questioning traveling merchants and wandering folk, they discovered that she wasn't the first one to disappear. There was something going on that was bigger than Liam and Elayna, and after a while of contemplating about what to do, the two of them came to a conclusion. Packing their things one night and, without informing anyone, they started out on a journey to find Elayna. However, due to personal differences early on in their travels, they parted ways very soon. Four years later, Liam finds himself in an inn near Huronsbury, no closer to finding out the truth to what had happened to his loved one.

*Edit*: Don't be freaked out by the length of my CS. I tend to go massively overboard.
I like both characters so far :) Are there more CS underway?~ I created a pretty small ring to throw hats into but don't let that scare you off. Still open spots and still looking for people :)

The mage could even be like a chemist/alchemist/herbalist. Their abilities are rooted in real world principles, but since they aren't understood it's treated as magic. A mage could specialize in brewing potions and tinctures with medicinal or destructive capabilities, but they depend on real biological and chemical factors unknown to the people.Just an idea XD

Loving the idea personally!

Thoughts on classes and abilities that are available in this fantasy world? Or how the systems of anything mystical would work? Just curious for character making reasons.

I'm thinkin of this as a fairly "realistic" medieval world with fanatsy touches here in there. So no "classes" in the traditional sense, just people who acquired certain skills during their lifes^_^ used a bow a lot for hunting when you were younger? Archer! Know how to handle coin because you're good with numbers? Merchant! It's not all about fighting, though it helps having one or two people work as physical backbone of the group ;)

Magic is not really taking a big part this rp, so no real chance for a traditional "mage". Though if someone would like to have a mage-ish chracter, I was thinking about having scholars tinker with the Ley-lines zigzaging across the world, streams of energy that used to power the devices of the ancient race^_^ so there's room for some mystic/magic there. if someone is interested give a shout, then we can work it out in detail together :)
