Elliott Stark
Male | 27 | Supernatural Reborn
6'1" medium build. His eyes are a glowing blue, though he tends to hide them underneath his hair.
Personality:The city is a constant reminder of his past which tortures him as he believes that he should have found a reason to live rather than kill himself. He acts stoic to the other reborn, but his propensity for kindness from his former life often seeps out in small ways. He rarely smiles and feels that he needs to carry the burden of his sin with him. Some say that his aura is blue. Elliott exercises a great degree of control of his emotions. He still has emotional ups and downs as a reborn, but he does not feel as intensely as he had before. He is in a constant state of guilt but he rarely shows it. Unique Skillset(s): Skilled marksman, ballet dancer, and swordsman. His rebirth has given him the ability to learn how to drive any vehicle with mastery. In his past life, he was an amazing cook, which transferred over to his new life. Soul Relic and Ability:
Penitence
Basic Function: A hilt with a retractable blade that can extend up to six feet and cut through any physical material with relative ease. Special Funciton: By using his essence (his soul) as a catalyst and feeding it to penitence, he can eliminate the existence of anything his blade slices through. This includes non-corporeal things as well. (ie barriers, energy blasts, etc). The slash makes no sound and the blade disappears momentarily when he strikes, as the actual process of eliminating the existence of something also eliminates the blade. Former Name: Michael Asano Former Gender: Male Former Age: 24 Former Species:Human
History: Michael was born to an affluent family that granted him all the pleasures in life. His father opened up a famous sushi restaurant in Aldred and his mother, a novelist who had published a series of short romance novels throughout her career. His family life as a child was average, and he was never without attention as his mother was always home and his father's business was well off enough that there was never any financial stress. The loving family atmosphere made him a very kind person, often going well out of his way to help others. He wasn't without his faults, however. Michael suffered from Bipolar II disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, always needing complete control over all aspects of his life. He always brushed his extreme downs as moments of catharsis and his ups as his most inspirational moments. Indeed, when Michael was hypomanic, he excelled at whatever he did. He attended a private university in Aldred to study journalism. There he met who he always believed to be the love of his life, Ella, during his sophomore year. A year later, Ella had grown stressful of Michael's odd mood swings and his obsessiveness over her. She simply wanted to take a break, but the change caused Michael to fall into a deep depression. He could not shake the void that she left in his heart, and let the void devour him. Michael dropped out of college and numbed himself with copious drug use. He had no desire or ambition to live after dropping out of college, and he slowly severed ties with all of his friends and family for a long period of time, spending his days working as a chef in a japanese restaurant franchise to spite his father. He spent most of his days at work, and when he wasn't, it wasn't uncommon to see him at a bar or at his dealer's house snorting whatever he could get his hands on. After a year long addiction to cocaine, Michael suddenly stopped after realizing that it no longer numbed him. He solely focused on work and often chose quiet bars to drink away his life. On February 18 after three months of minimum contact with other people outside of work, Michael committed suicide by jumping off a bridge into oncoming traffic after experiencing a long existential crisis and loneliness.
Character Sheet Format
Current Name: Current Gender: Current Age: Current Species: If your character is simply reborn as a superhuman, just call them a supernatural reborn. I decided to add this part because I realized it might be more fun to have a few supernatural creatures. Current Appearance: Personality:I want you to consider the key points of your character rather than make a general description of what they are like, because their personality is bound to change throughout the plot. I originally didn't have a personality section because of how much I can see a character's personality changing in the story, but it might be helpful in keeping a foundation for your character. Unique Skillset(s):I said before that your character gains new knowledge with their new body. Perhaps they were a cancer patient in their previous life and was a shitty painter, but now they're great at it! Be creative. Soul Relic and Ability:The relic can be anything from a ring that lets them transform to a gun that shoots antimatter. It can have two functions: A basic function, and a specialized one. The basic function can be used without cost to the user, but the special function requires a catalyst - in this case, the user's soul. The more you use the special function, the less of a soul your character has. Former Name: Former Age: Former Gender: Former Species: I'm not even joking when I say your character could have been a dog in their previous life. Feel free to have fun with this if you want, but remember that a lot of your character development is contingent on your character's past life. Former Appearance: History: I don't mind how long this is, as long as it describes how the character died. You can be brief, or you can go into great detail.

OOC for all you wonderful people. I ended up placing it in casual but I feel the demand for character development and plot development will bring out everyone's full potential as writers. Good luck!

The most painful state of being is remembering the future, particularly the one you'll never have. -Søren Kierkegaard
Plot
In a contemporary alternate reality in the city of Aldred, you have died on February 18. It is now one week after your death, February 25th, and you awaken in a hotel with a completely new identity. Your memories are intact, but your name, your physical appearance and attributes have all changed. You even have newfound knowledge in certain fields that you did not have in your previous life. On the bedside table is a wallet with your new identity along with a cellphone and a set of keys for your hotel and vehicle (if your character is of age to drive). Upon waking, a message is waiting on your cellphone from an unknown number that simply says "Welcome back from the dead". A man who simply refers to himself as Thanatos explains to you that you have been resurrected to do his bidding. He may command you to steal, to save, or to kill. If you do not, your physical body experiences stigmata and you die with the exact same wounds and symptoms as your first death, and your soul is sent to oblivion. He also opens your eyes to the darker side of the world where creatures of lore lurk and hide in shadows, masquerading as humans. Not much is known about his true plans or his history other than what he divulges. This RP seeks to dive into the topic of how one would face life after their death. Every character has spent a majority of their lives in Aldred, and because they are technically reborn as a new person, they have the chance to interact with those they knew in their previous life. This also presents you with the opportunity to answer the question "what would it be like going to my own funeral?"
Missions
Missions will be posted here. Each mission has a timeframe and duration and will be cycled through each time Thanatos makes an appearance. Thanatos will be our indicator for what the date will be. As for now, it is currently February 25 and the first mission is a collaborative effort. While your character may not take the entire duration posted on the mission list, they will be unable to start any other missions until the duration has completed. This insures that your character can only do a limited number of missions. For example, if Mission "A"'s expiration date is on the 15th of march and you started mission "B" on the 12th of march with a duration of 4 days, Mission "A" is no longer accessible. However, you can start a mission if the duration is longer than the expiration date. Necromancer Hunting
  • Duration: 7 days
  • Expiration Date: March 5.
  • Mission: A group of necromancers known as the Phoenix Brotherhood is out to steal Thanatos' reincarnation spell. Your job is to hunt them down and kill them. There are a total of twelve targets. You are all to work together to hunt them down.
Setting
The entire setting will be in Aldred and the subcommunities and districts are still a work in progress. Technology is slightly more advanced, with greater achievements in prosthetics, mechanics, and computer engineering.
  • Aldred: An umbrella term for the massive metroplex surrounding the city of Aldred. Aldred itself is a burgeoning urban city that, over the years, has grown despite the economic recession. I give you free rein on creating your own places for your characters to go to, but there are some established neighborhoods.
  • Hotel Lazarus: Located at the heart of Aldred on 606 Rue Street. The main setting and where you will meet up and find your missions. To the public, it is a simple hotel among many, but in truth, it is a place for the supernatural to reside.
  • Makers District: To the public, it's an esoteric part of town where one can find just about anything. However, it is also where most of the supernatural reside. One can find just about any sort of supernatural trinket here if they know the right door to go through.
Character Sheet
Moved to Characters Tab. Post your character there upon completion! Thanks
Glossary
  • The Origin: A metaphysical realm where all events and phenomena of the past, present and future have been recorded. The origin is also the place where souls reside and return after death, and is the source of all magic. To date, no one has been able to fully tap into The Origin, as it contains the fundamental root of the universe. When a soul resides in The Origin, it is returned to the collective energy and the soul has no awareness of its own existence.
  • Reaper: When a reborn completely depletes their soul and faces soul death, Thanatos grants them autonomy, but they lose all sense of personal identity and they become a reaper.
  • Reborn: Artificially reincarnated beings by Thanatos. Their strength and agility are twice that of a healthy adult and their senses are heightened just slightly above their species' maximum potential. They also gain the ability to sense supernatural phenomena. An ordinary human can only feel very strong supernatural phenomena, but a reborn can sense if and when a supernatural phenomena is within their immediate surroundings.
  • Reincarnation: The process of the soul passing the veil and to the origin, then returning to the corporeal realm while retaining its former identity and memories. While the memories may not manifest themselves unless triggered, the identity of the soul remains intact. Reincarnation occurs naturally. Only Thanatos has managed to find a way to artificially reincarnate someone.
  • Soul: A being's essence that comprises their identity and their raison d'etre. As a soul ages in corporeal form, it grows with memories.
  • Soul Death: The passing of one's soul to the veil while their physical vessel remains alive. This renders their physical vessel vulnerable to manipulation.
  • Soul Relic: An item that was crafted from part of a reborn's soul. It contains an immense amount of power and can only be broken by another soul relic. If a soul relic is broken, the essence returns to the main soul.
  • Specter: Souls that have not passed the veil and have no corporeal body. [*]Stigmata: Wounds corresponding to a reborn's death and appear when Thanatos punishes a reborn for insubordination, or if a reborn loses a part of their soul (ie, using their soul relic's secondary function).
  • Vampire: An undead being who lives off the blood of others to survive. Their soul is encapsulated and gradually corrodes into something unnatural, thus rendering them incapable of tapping into the origin and practicing magic. Sunlight, burning, silver and/or a stake to the heart, and decapitation are all lethal to a vampire. Older vampires (those who are at least a thousand years old) have a higher tolerance to sunlight, wood stakes and silver, but will die when decapitated or burned to dust. When they die, their soul cannot dwell in the corporeal realm and immediately passes through the veil.
  • The Veil: Refers to the boundary that souls must pass through from this realm to The Origin and vice versa. When a soul dies, it returns to the veil. A being is considered dead once their soul passes through the veil.

Rules
  • You can come and go as you please so long as you finish your character's plotline. I don't necessarily mean that they have to ride through an entire main plot. Real life issues can get in the way of things, and I want you to have the freedom to take a leave if necessary.
  • You are more than welcome to create more than one character as long as you can commit to fleshing them out and giving them a plotline
  • I highly encourage collaboration, but you are always more than welcome to go along with your own plot. I will come up with enough missions that any number of players can join in.
Of course, I expect proper grammar and respect for other people's ideas, but I feel like this is a given on any RP.
No I'm working on some NPCs right now lol, but it will be soon.

TL;DR
  • OOC
  • Alternate Contemporary Reality, year 2020.
  • Your soul is reincarnated into a new body and identity. You retain the memories of your previous life, but no one in your previous life will recognize you.
  • Your new life is given to you by a mysterious being who calls himself Thanatos. Thanatos provides you with missions as plot points to guide the story.
  • Your character will be referred to as a reborn regardless of their gender, race, or species. You are brandished by an outer black circle around your pupils that can only be seen by the supernatural. The art of your rebirth is near flawless, as your new body is immortal. Necromancers tend to see you as a possible source of knowledge, as no one has ever been capable of reincarnating an individual as Thanatos has.
  • You learn of the existence of supernatural entities. They have no specific alignment. Some are good, some are neutral, some are bad. Perhaps your new body is of a supernatural species.
  • There exists a group that only call themselves "The Core" that Thanatos himself despises. Whether The Core is your character's antagonist or Thanatos is your antagonist is up to you to decide. More will be divulged as the plot progresses.
  • Rules are fairly casual, allowing you to come and go as you please. The only prerequisite for leaving is making sure you finish the mission or plot line you started. In other words, tie loose ends before taking leave unless it is absolutely urgent. You are more than welcome to come back with the same character(s) or a new one(s).

Character Info and Sheet
The characters are essentially superhuman immortals that are at the whim of a mysterious man with even more cryptic plans. They each have a unique soul relic that draws its power from the user's soul. Greater use of the power can endanger the character's life and may deem them incapacitated. The use of magic is limited to what kind of items the character has, or what their soul relic allows for them. The current CS will look like this. Former Name: Current Name: Former Age: Current Age: Well, this ties more in with appearance, but since you're immortal, it's a bit irrelevant. Former Appearance: (Photos Encouraged) Current Appearance: (Photos Encouraged) History: I don't mind how long this is, as long as it describes how the character died. Flow
The story will be set according to how you want it. Thanatos offers several missions at a time, allowing you to create your very own self contained story or collaborate with others to make the plot. The decisions you make are what guide the plot. Each mission has a set length and expiration date, which limits the number of missions you can do. Do not worry, though. There is much to do in this world, and limiting your missions will further guide the plot to where it should go. NPCs will be at your disposal once I start putting the story in writing. Places will revolve mostly around the people inhabiting them, so the structure of the physical setting can evolve.
Theme and Motif
This RP is meant to explore a supernatural world in a city while dealing with (or not dealing with) the aftermath of your character's death to the people they once knew. Thanatos will post several missions at a time, and I highly encourage people to collaborate on these missions. Subplots are allowed, as long as these subplots are self contained and do not involve the plot (aka Thanatos). I've decided to move this to Advanced because of the requirement for character development. The first part by itself requires more than just an acknowledgement of your character's death. It requires a closer look on how one might go about living as an entirely new being, knowing full well that their former life is still there. Does your character try to reconnect to their past? Do they move on despite the risk of seeing vestiges of their former life? What if someone in their former life is entangled in the supernatural underground of this world? The plot development is also very expansive and requires greater attention to detail since I'm leaving the details entirely up to you. The outcome of each mission relies heavily on how you approach it and what results you get, thereby greatly influencing the plot. All I give are the missions required and a few tools to help guide you along the way. How you go about it is up to you.

Updated, OOC in the works.
@Elvenoff, I see no reason for you not to be able to change genders. I wanted to add NPCs earlier but I needed to sleep and this is just the interest check after all. I want there to be lots so you can play around and really make your own story line without feeling like you can't progress without me as a guiding hand.
