See, this is what happens when I read a post right before I go to bed: I miss crucial information and get bootysore over the implications.

Everything there makes enough sense to me, I'm working on a post right now.
Well shit. I was just starting to write my own dishonorably discharged character. Time to go back to the drawing board, I guess.
I'd be super interested in this, especially in one of the Elite groups.
I have a question about the post: I am not sure Billy's appropriate reaction to a person who can not only perform the complex magic to stop their torso getting halfway turned into a unicorn, but also reacted fast enough to a probably unexpected piece of technology with enough foresight to cast three transfigurations on small targets that will only be in flight for ~.01 seconds.

Is this a normal feat to be able to perform? If so, wouldn't Blackwell know that and not chastise Billy, and if not, how out of the ordinary is it, is it enough for Billy to be surprised/shocked/mystified? Would Billy also be shocked, depending on the answer to the previous question, that a person with such [potentially] prodigious reaction times did not transform Blackwell into a Blackwell-sized pile of cheese or something? Could my character perform such impressive feats? Also, can transfiguration rob things of their speed?

Also, I know there is no way for me to change Billy's or actions to reflect an understanding that this result may happen, but I could use some help figuring out an explanation for his frankly stunning ignorance [assuming his opponent's reaction is normal]. Maybe American isolationism? I could change his history slightly so that he has never actually fought in a battle or training exercise, or find some explanation like 'soviet soliders cannot cast transfigurations'.
I'll be off work soon, able to get a proper CS up then.

Just want to run a character by you: dishonorably discharge human naval commodore/admiral/some staff officer, probably for disobeying cruel orders or some other noble disobedience, is trying to turn his military knowledge into civilian captaincy/first-matedom. He personality of this character would be a hopefully interesting mix of military mentality and traits that are reactionary to the disliked institution.
Though shameful to admit, would be basing this character fairly heavily on my main man Yang Wen-Li

Is that an acceptable background?
Man don't knock pulling things out of your butt until you try it. That is valuable storage space: I keep my wallet in my butt, safe and secure and always to hand.
I find myself inexorably drawn to "cool, usually broke, people on a spaceship doing cool things". It's a proven formula. I'm down for this.
I really want to post here, but I'm not sure I have an 'in'. Claes is waiting for her new friend to respond to her offer, and Marko won't feel comfortable interjecting into such a tense situation.

Sorry for sort of writing myself into a corner.
My faction needs trade partners, hopefully ones that are lacking in primary or secondary industries. Any foreign powers want to have encountered each other/have trade agreements?
At least it is more subtle than my usual method of space NRP

You don't get much less subtle than the HMS Lohengramm or the SS Wen-Li
