General Information
Name: Dowell
Crew Occupation: Shipwright
Species Human
Gender: Female
Sexuality:Heterosexual (Very picky)
Age: 29 (She has been twenty-nine for six years. Do not call her out on this.)
Height & Weight: Six foot six, one hundred and eighty pounds. They say Redwood folk are part tree.
Home Island Port Drydock, Redwood Island, South Blue. A heavily-wooded island that was called the heart of South Blue's shipbuilding industry during the Golden Age of Pirates. It's been a century since then, and Port Drydock has fallen far behind the times. The once-legendary forest that gave Redwood Island its name is a shadow of its former self, thanks to the hunger of the shipyards that are, for the most part, now much less busy.
Appearance
Hair Color:Black
Eye Color:Green
Physical Appearance:Shockingly tall and limber, with long black hair pulled back out of her face. Has a strong jaw and stronger shoulders.
Style: Dowell can invariably be found wearing her work clothes: heavy overalls over a long shirt that was probably white at one point but is now covered in streaks of oil, paint, and dried glue. She carries 'normal' tools on her hip in a tool belt, and all her other 'specialty' equipment, including her wapometal multitool, strapped to her back. Due to the heavy load, she walks with a slouch that makes her seem shorter than she really is.
Personality
Innate Personality:Calm and analytic, except when annoyed or enraged or drunk. She only really gets excited when shipbuilding or engineering are involved, and is otherwise somewhat droll.
Likes: - Alcohol.
- Admiring new ships.
- Classical music.
- Quiet woodlands.
- Burly men.
Dislikes: Skills/Talents: A talented shipwright, experienced in making repairs in and out of drydock. Extremely fast learner with a voracious hunger for knowledge.
Motivations/Goals/DreamTo learn new techniques and methods of engineering from all along the Grand Line, and be remembered as one of the greatest engineers of the Modern Age of Pirates.
Reason For Joining She wanted to go to the Grand Line. Really, she'd have jumped on any other ship heading there, pirate or not.
History/Bio:Dowell was born to an old shipwright family on Redwood Island, and was taught the old ways from a very young age. By the time she was eight, she had already built her first rowboat without any help, and by twelve, she was working on larger ships alongside grown men, who sometimes found it hard to keep up with her. By the time she was sixteen, she had gotten tired of the staunch traditionalism of Redwood's shipyards ("Metal ships are just a phase!"), and set out to learn more about modern shipbuilding techniques. She spent years bouncing around South Blue, working at every shipyard she could find, absorbing everything they had to teach her, and then moving onto the next. When she finally felt that there was nothing more to learn in South Blue, she looked for a ship that would take her to the Grand Line, hoping to learn about the great sea train, Puffing Tom, or the legendary coating techniques of the Sabaody Archipelago, or the technological wonders of Future Land Baldimore.

Combat Information
Name:Port Drydock-Style Martial Arts
Type:Instrument and Weapon Based
Explanation:Dowell uses her shipwright's tools and monumental strength in combat. Her preferred tactic is to seal her opponents' movements with nails, ropes, or various mixtures of glue and tar, and then deal damage with her Wapometal All-Purpose Tool.
Combat Personality/Style: Dowell isn't the fastest creature in the world, but a life spent as a shipwright has given her strength and durability best described as 'inhuman'. She doesn't particularly consider herself to be a 'fighter', and would fight only for a concrete purpose. However, she considers 'really, really pisses me off' to be a concrete purpose.
Strengths: Dowell is best suited to fighting slow, heavily armored opponents, using her shipbuilding skills to tear apart her enemy's protections to get at the insides. Outside of combat (and besides shipbuilding), her wide variety of tools could find many uses, and her skill with ropes and rigging make her extremely adept at traversal of vertical surfaces.
Weaknesses:Dowell's methods of restricting movement would be much less effective on an opponent fast or nimble enough to reliably avoid them, and while she's strong and durable, she herself isn't particularly fast.
Experience: Dowell has been building ships most of her life, but she never really used those skills in combat until she joined the crew. As such, she's still developing as a fighter, figuring out new ways to use her natural skills for violent ends.
Equipment: - Wapometal All-Purpose Tool - Dowell's most valued possession. An immensely heavy tool that can shift between five shapes: a hammer, a crowbar, a chisel, a saw, and an axe. While it was created with large-scale shipbuilding in mind, Dowell has found it works just as well for delivering violence. While she prefers to use its shapeshifting capabilities to their fullest potential, she typically defaults to its hammer form.
- Mundane Tools - Everything else Dowell needs, she keeps on her tool belt. Including, but not limited to: nails of various sizes, writing implements, measuring tape, normal-sized hammers, chisels, rope, several types of glue, and a flask of alcohol that the World Government has legally classified as a paint thinner.
Sample Techniques: - Marteau - Dowell hits her opponent in the head with the APT hammer really, really hard. It's not terrifically creative, but when you have a hammer that weighs a hundred pounds, everything starts to look like a nail.
- Pied de Pied - Dowell uses the APT crowbar to peel away plates of armor, carapace, or shell from her opponent.
- Ciseau - Dowell attacks using her APT chisel like a spear, punching through thin armor.
- Clou - Using her nail gun or hammer, Dowell pins her opponent to the ground with nails. If she doesn't want to hurt them, she'll aim for their clothes or shoes. Otherwise... well.
- Cale Sèche - Using her ropes and the environment, Dowell trusses up her opponent and suspends them, immobile, in midair. This would be considered her 'finishing move', and it enables her to do essentially whatever she wants to her captive opponent.
Meta Information:
Character Growth Plan: Dowell's main interest is learning as much as she can. She's seen how far behind Redwood Island has fallen, and she's terrified of that kind of stagnation. At every stop, she would learn every new technique she can find, and find some way to bring them all together to create something new and amazing.
Combat Growth: Over time, Dowell would grow more used to using her skills in combat, and implement new techniques into her fighting style. She would also design new equipment for herself and other crewmembers, which would culminate in building herself a hulking shipwright's exoskeleton/powered armor.
