Daishin chuckled. "Yes, of course. And please don't be so formal. I'm fairly new to the status of captain and we are equal beings whether I be a captain or not." He turned and looked back. "Go ahead and familiarize yourself with the squad. I must finish my training for the day."

"Thank you sir." he replied, ignoring his words about the lack of formality. He was his superior and must be treated as such. He bowed one last time and then left calmly. Once he was out of sight, he got all giddy and jumped up with his hands held high. "Yes!" he screamed, ecstatic about being accepted into the squad of his dreams. "We did it Tsukurite Yasuragi, we did it." he said so relieved. Shusuke walked with his head held high, "Now for some training so I can move up in the ranks." he thought, walking to the public training grounds. He wasn't sure if anyone would be there but a sparring session might do the trick. There was only one way to find out after all.
My computer refused to let me post this for like a week now but here's an update.

Daishin awaited Shusuke's attack. He smiled watching him really himself and his sword. "Now, don't hold back." He told him. Finally Shusuke charged and set his foot, relating his swing. Daishin merely raised his tonfa and let the blade fall upon it. He closed eyes as the sound of the clashing metal echoed for a couple moments. "We often mistake fighting as brutal conflict to get what we want. But the truth is it is another we try to understand each other. That is why when words fail we try and use force. The feeling of wanting to prove one's self when battling is you trying to make the opponent understand you. Every punch, every kick, every swing of the sword conveys more of what makes a person who they are. Their past, their experience, and reasons why they fight can all be pulled from a single strike." Daishin lowered his tonfa. "Always keep that strong spirit of hope. It'll serve to well in this squad."

(By the way, sorry my post's have been slowing down, things have been hectic lately. I want to also give you a warning that since this base in the process of a shutdown, the internet will eventually go away before we actually get to the main base so possibly for like a month I will have no internet. With that said, if the MWR still has internet here, I'll try to post but it won't be anything like the pace we used to have. I'll do my best to keep you informed of when this happens, not like it'll be tomorrow or anything.)

Shusuke withdrew his blade from the captain's, quickly sheathing it and bowing. "Your words are truly wise sir." he said, appreciatively. He now raised his head and looked at Captain Daishin. "So with that, I can be apart of your humble squad?" he asked, wanted to confirm. This was a big moment for him and he didn't want to over react, only to find out that they were only kind words and not acceptance of him into the squad. Shusuke would be devastated. He hadn't come any further than the other graduates but to be in front of the captain of the squad you want, and to get denied. It would be unbearable.

"So, you value hope. That is a fine concept to hold onto." Daishin complimented and turned walking a few steps away. "If you are serious about joining my squad for the reasons you say then there is only one test I can administer." Daishin reached behind and under his haori drawing one of his black tonfa. "Poor all of your feelings into your blade and show me why it is you hope. One strike and you can tell me all about it." He said with a wise smile.

OOC: I just realized I missed a critical part of that statement, I left out the word Hope lol.

Shusuke was confused, not as to the directions, those were very clear but more so, how he would ascertain his worth just based off a slash. "Is this mystical captain voodoo?" he asked himself, unsure of his methods but knew not to question him. If he wanted him to strike his tonfa than he would. Shusuke nodded, "Yes sir." he said softly. He withdrew his zanpakuto slowly, allowing it's blade to brush against the sheath every inch of the way and then holding it out in front of him, perfectly aligned with his body. His left hand now positioned itself below his right, assuming a two handed posture, that of the kendo way. Perhaps he wasn't able to do what Captain You Xang asked of him, his experience was but a pebble in a pond compared to the captains. Getting this right was critical.

"Alright Tsukurite Yasuragi, flow into my blade. Be one with me, let us show the captain our strength!" he yelled to himself. He made one movement with his body, a lunge to close the gap between them. Shusuke's feet planted firmly in front of his notional opponent, his blade raised, looking no different than usual. He swung down hard, perhaps not with his full strength but pretty close. In the milliseconds before contact with Captain Yu Xang's tonfa, Shusuke reflected on this moment in time.

Daishin leaped from his perch and landed in front of Shusuke. "I don't mind at all. As a captain it is also my job to teach as well as lead. I hope you learned something." He said to try and ebb his Shusuke's nervousness. Daishin listened as the new shinigami spoke. "I see. I'm glad to hear that you have such spirit. May I ask your name and why you chose Squad 13?"

"Ah, of course sir. I am Shusuke Hotokai." he said proudly. "While at the academy, they cover a lot of great information as to what each squad does and with careful consideration with my zanpakuto, we've decided that the squad most known for it's hope would be the best fit." said Shusuke, happy to finally be standing before the captain of the squad he so desired. "The academy also taught me that the way one applies for a squad varies depending on the captain's discretion. What would have me do sir?" he asked, curious what he would come up with.

Daishin took a cleansing breath. The weights he wore were weighed just under the point where the strain would cause damage to his body. They would make it difficult to move up and ran the risk of breaking a shaft of her came down to hard on it. The 13th captain shunpoed, entering the thicket and shunpoing rapidly. There was hardly anything to watch. Along the course the hopeful shinigami would only catch glimpses and flashes of Daishin. It took only moments for him to make it to the last shaft, leaving a trail of triggers and otherwise courted or sighed traps. As he landed on the last bamboo shaft it lowered triggering the last obstacle. Daishin stood perfectly balanced on the shaft as a wave of logs came teac swinging at him from all directions. Seamlessly he moved his body without leaving his perch, weaving through the barrage of logs with incredible speed. Finally he stood motionless on the bamboo shaft with a hundred logs hanging around him. "I hope you enjoyed the demonstration~" The captain looked back at his visitor having known he was there the whole time and smiled. "Hello, I am Daishin Yu Xang. Captain of Squad 13."

Shusuke jumped a bit, not expecting to be called out like this. He gulped and then moved forward to be in complete view, he quickly bowed. "I wasn't eavesdropping on your training sir, I promise. I didn't wish to disturb you with my request." he said, now standing upright. "I'm here because I wish to join your squad Captain Yu Xang. I recently graduated and have already completed one mission so far." he spoke not to impress the man before him, especially with such a poor record but to simply inform him of his standing. "I am dedicated and will be loyal to the squad, if you'll take me sir."

Elijah took what was said in fragments, it's broken english made it difficult to understand at moments but he pieced it together. Phanyx was not only aware of the bracer's mystic properties, but that he was a werewolf, or so it seemed. He tightened his grip around the mug's handle, not so much in an angry way. It wasn't a secret to anyone here what he was but for a stranger to deduce that from just a glance terrified him. Someone with this kind of mysticism and intuition could be very dangerous, though depending on how he played his cards, a very powerful ally. "I think we should talk somewhere a little more private, if you don't mind." he said, motioning with his hand for the satyr to look over his shoulder at the many faces looking at them. Eli had enough on his plate as a top ranked fighter, he didn't need to supply them with any more reason to come after him.

Inside the captain's lion companion awoke from his nap at the sound of someone at the door. There was no answer. Instead the hopeful shinigami got a menacing roar.A squad member came by and earned him not to disturb Fang when he's sleeping then pointed him to the training hall. "Captain Daishin is usually there around this time." Daishin was meditating, visual his approach to the training course he prepared for himself. A seasoned practitioner of kido it was easy for him to erase the course from his memory. He stood, ready to proceed. The course was a field of bamboo shafts randomly spaced and of varying heights. Underneath it all was a burning coal bed. His objective: make his way to the other end of the large room using shunpo as soon as he lands on a bamboo shaft. Along it were various obstacles plus he was wearing heavy weights.

Shusuke nearly jumped out of skin when he heard a deep roar come from behind the door, then a man stepped next to him and shed some light as to where the captain was. He followed the road to the training hall, hoping to speak with Captain Daishin about joining the squad but now, more interestingly, seeing him train. Just to catch a glimpse of someone of his caliber training could shed light on a hundred years of how to perform even a single technique. He peered around a corner a saw the signature white kimono with black diamonds on the bottom, the black hair with small bits of blond on the side. He was tall like Shusuke too. He stood a little bit, to see what the captain was going to do. Shusuke could see the bamboo in assorted places but had no idea what he intended to do with them.
