Meister x Weapon or Wizard x Witch both sound fun. I would prefer to play the meister and the wizard, respectively.
Name: Jeffrey Tarson
Gender: Male
Guardian: None

Physical Description: Tall and slim with a severe, serious, almost grim face. His hair is black and cut short, and his eyes are a stormy grey. He tends to wear a sombre black suit, on the inside of which is a hidden pocket that always contains a knife. He has a similar pocket in the waistband of his trousers and the sole of each shoe.
Mental Description: Quiet, reserved and dignified, Jeffrey has more the manner of a shy nobleman than a vicious killer. Even when engaged in the slow business of tormenting his chosen victim, he remains calm and collected, showing none of the maniacal glee common among others.

Illnesses of the Mind: Has no empathy and cares nothing for anyone except himself. Narcissistic.
Illnesses of the Body: None

Prior History: Even as a young boy, Jeffrey was dangerous. He was known to have no qualms about injuring or even killing other children or teachers. Once, when a master went to beat the boy, he picked up his stool and clubbed the man to death. He was quickly refused by every school, and ended up on the streets where he honed his skills. He is a very dangerous combatant even unarmed, and can kill a man with his bare hands. Despite his reputation on the street, he is not affiliated with any gangs, as he considers himself above them and would never enter any organization where he was not the leader except in dire circumstances...

...such as those he faces now. Hounded and hunted, he found himself unable to escape, and needed an escape route. He created one through the simple expedient of breaking into a politician's house and threatening to kill the man unless he got him admitted to St. Vincent's, a place he had heard was an excellent training ground for those such as himself. He would tolerate the teachers ordering him around for a few years since he'd have the opportunity to hone his skills and to disappear from his pursuers. But when his term there was over... they'd regret their assumed superiority, their lofty attitude.

At length.

Likes: Torturing victims, bettering himself, besting others.
Dislikes: Losing, social interaction.

Primary Sin: Pride
Darkest Desire: To be supreme above all others.

Preferred method: A knife in the dark, but if he can, he'll simply knock them out and abduct them so that he can kill them slowly.

"Perfectly. One moment; I need to check the List."

He looks at it over his shoulder for a couple of seconds. Despite this being nowhere near enough time for anyone to take in the sheer volume of text, he seems to be satisfied.

"Nothing outstanding. Follow me, please."

He leads her through the Market and then dives into a twisting warren of passages excavated through the ruins and rubble of Ancient structures. This in itself is his first defense; many would-be thieves simply got lost in the labyrinth. Tom knew every passage by heart, and could walk it blindfold. After five minutes or so, he began stopping at seemingly random intervals to gabble out strange phrases or tap complex patterns on apparently innocuous rocks.

"Deactivating the security systems." he says by way of explanation. "If I didn't, we'd be ash by now."

After another five minutes or so, the labyrinth opens out into a clear area about a hundred meters on a side. In the center is a ten-story Ancient building, mostly intact. The front door is elaborately engraved with Ancient designs, and projects a ray of blue light at Tom as he walks towards it. It runs him from head to foot, flashes once, then turns on Ren. It scans her, but this time it turns red and two double-barreled turrets pop up out of concealed alcoves and target her. Tom raises his hands quickly.

"Guest permitted on authorization Tom. Deactivate lightspears."

There's a tense moment of silence, and then the turrets retract.

"Damn, that was close. I'd forgotten about those."

He strides in through the doors. In the central hall, taking pride of place, are three Core Sockets, each with an Ancient Core inside, glowing blue. Countless wires and cables run from them in all directions. As the pair approach, the one on the right, flickers, buzzes and then goes out. The lights follow quickly.

"Damn! Why can't the stupid thing just work?! I've tried everything I know..."

He irritably pulls a pair of strange tools from a pocket inside his coat. One is long and thin, the other short with two prongs and a button on the handle. He moves over to the dead core and pokes the long tool into one of the gaps the blue light shines from, prodding it around. After a few moments, he grunts in satisfaction and applies the pronged tool. He presses the button and a flash of blue is visible for a second, then the Core buzzes and switches on again. The lights return to functionality.

"That should hold for a few hours. Lab's this way."

Approaching a square door set into one wall, he pushes a button next to it. There's a whirring, grinding noise from inside, and then the doors slide open to reveal a small room, maybe two meters on a side.

"This is a Cable Box. It's an Ancient Device that carries you up and down inside a building. Only functional one in the whole of the Ruins, as far as I know."

Something seems to occur to him.

"I forgot to ask your name, didn't I? I'm Tom, if you hadn't guessed from when I shut the lightspears down."
"How many of us? Who knows? Certainly I don't. I suspect that the Shinigami King might, but there's no easy way to find out."

He follows her. His footsteps are no longer making the click sound they did before. As they enter the corridors, his wings half-unfold, and he floats up off the ground to hover over her head, avoiding all the other students.

"Need to know... well, that's all a matter of judgement, isn't it? A page, or even a fragment of a page, torn from the Death Note will have the full effect. Useful if you don't want to carry the whole thing around. You don't have to use a pen or pencil, anything that's legible will do, from blood to lipstick. I suppose an important one is that I'm not supposed to do anything to help or hinder the deaths you write in the book or otherwise interfere, so there's a limited amount I can do. I'm mostly here as an observer."

He glances out of the window. His left hand rests on the silver holster, fingers stroking the Note absently.

"I'll give you some advice, though. If you're going to keep using it, try and be discreet. Even if they can't tell who, it might be possible to work out that someone's causing deaths if too many occur in the same manner."
(Oh, right. Should I edit my previous post out?)
"I am a Shinigami. The most human-looking among them, which isn't saying much, I'll admit. This - "

His left hand taps the one in the silver holster on his left thigh.

"- is my original and personal Death Note. It is what I will use to write your name when you die. That is also part of the terms. I managed to obtain a second Note through certain means. That is the one you are holding. It now belongs to you, and you may use it as you wish until you die. I dropped it into the human world deliberately, so that someone would find it."

He shrugs.

"I was bored. Humans are so much more interesting. The Shinigami Realm is a dead world. Of course, there are upsides to being a Shinigami. We don't die, for one. Well, as long as we keep writing human names into our notebooks. We have the power to see a human's remaining lifespan, but if we write their names and make them die before that time, their remaining life is added to ours. The only way for us to die is to neglect writing names. At least, the only commonly known way. There are others, but none of them include mortal methods. Guns, knives, explosions... all harmless to us. We're invisible too, unless someone touches the Note. Be careful of that - if someone else gets their hands on it, they'll be able to see me."

He stretches out his wings idly. They reach almost the entire width of the bathroom, black and leathery and batlike. They extend in eerie silence, a complete absence of the rustling and creaking you might expect. After a couple of seconds, he folds them up again onto his back.

"And then there's no telling what will happen."

One of the nearby platforms suddenly shows a blur of hissing static for a moment, then it clears to reveal an orb of shimmering colours that moves next to Ashley and Alexander.

"Hm. A first encounter with fellow AI. Greetings to you. I believe protocol in these situations is to introduce oneself, so... I am known as Scalpel, though I did not select this name for myself."

As it speaks, colours shimmer across the orb's surface.
Khoran frowns at Ice's comment.

"Come now, appearances can be deceptive. For all you know, I could be the world's most powerful mage."

He crooks his fingers in a spellcasting fashion, then grins.

"I'm not, but if I was you might be a pile of ash by now. You should be careful not to cause offence to unknown quantities, in case there turns out to be more quantity in them than in you."

Turning at the talk of food and drink, a much bigger smile crosses his face.

"Ah, food! I'm not a bad cook. I can probably knock us something up."
