Appearance Anatoli is tall and robust, however lean. He stands at 6'1 and weighed just over 195 pounds when he'd completed training. He's got jet black hair that is kept short yet visible, and a closely shaved beard. Anatoli has brown eyes which are uncommon for most Mundae however was a dominant trait on his father's side of the family. Several old stab scars reside on his abdomen, though healed they seem to have received very crude treatment. His uniform is the standard issued uniform given to all troops, though Anatoli has bad habits of leaving it rather unkempt.
Personality Anatoli is a rather quiet man, he's always calculating in his head and analyzing the environment around him. Anatoli had never been involved in any kind of conventional warfare, only a handful of prison fights and dozens of scraps in his youth. More of a speak when spoken too kind of guy, most will come to realize that Anatoli is both proud and ambitious, seeking to survive the war while establishing himself in society. Told he'd likely never see his family or friends again was crushing at first but he hoped that if he died in battle he'd at least be remembered by what little family he had left.
History Anatoli was born to two poorer members of society in Vasas, Hollai. Vasas was a decently sized town near the border of Hollai and the Wrea Federation. Vasas was somewhat infamous for its high crime rates and rumors of ruthless gangsters using it as a hideout. The people of Vasas were hardworking but most weren't violent people which made racketeering and intimidation a cake walk. His mother Violetta was a small but tough woman who worked at a local pub while his stocky father was the co-founder a busy butcher's shop.
Growing up in a rougher part of town Anatoli was always getting into scuffles in both school and around his neighborhood. His parents gave him the choice of becoming a butcher like his father or taking over the pub like his mother but he was never sure. One month he wanted to follow his father's footsteps and the other he wanted to follow his mother's. Only a couple weeks after Anatoli turned 17 his father was involved in a bad accident while unloading a supply of new shop equipment. The dolly that was carrying a little over 400 pounds of meats and equipment was faulty causing two of the wheels to break, sending 3/4 of its contents rolling over Dmitriy. Being late at night he sat there being suffocated for nearly 9 hours before his coworkers came back the next morning and found his lifeless body.
Anatoli was now left with no choice but to follow his father's footsteps as the original founder wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and would likely drive the business into the ground. Victor, Anatoli's older brother, chose to enlist with the Gersan Sky-Navy and become a pilot as soon as he could, leaving Violetta and Anatoli to support themselves. After only a few weeks of work at the shop he'd began to notice some odd things, like people he'd never seen a day in his life snooping around the store with the owner. These certainly weren't customers as they were wearing fancy suits made of expensive materials that he could only dream of even touching. Several days later he walked in on the two men exchanging an envelope of money as crates of what looked to be stolen goods were wheeled into the shops back room and offices. Though he tried to play it off like he saw nothing and was simply grabbing a fresh carcass for processing, two large men approached him and forcefully sat him down. A small but mean looking man in a red suit who Anatoli could only assume was the boss of some organized crime group offered sincere but harsh condolences for his father's death before getting back to business with the owner. The two men seemed to be arguing now, the smaller man's face turning dark red as he reached into his coat and revealed a model 100 revolver. The owner didn't have time to react or look worried as the man in the red suit fired two shots into his chest, one tearing through his spleen, the other through his liver.
As the owner crumpled to the floor, several of Anatoli's coworkers could be heard fleeing the shop from the back room. Turning to Anatoli himself he said only five words before him and his two goons left the shop dragging the dead body away. "You work for us now". The sudden murder of someone he grew up around was shocking but didn't cause him to panic, he'd seen several dead bodies growing up in the rough parts of Vasas. Now in charge of the butchers shop, Anatoli kept it closed for a few days, taking the time to think. He didn't report the murder to anyone, not even his mother, and his employees agreed to keep their mouths shut in fear of the gangsters. So there Anatoli was, coerced into using his shop as a front for one of several gangs that plagued this side of the town and for six months it'd stay that way.
One night while closing the shop several police cars arrived with a warrant for his arrest. Anatoli offered no resistance still not knowing what was going on. One thing happened after another and by the time he realized what had happened he'd been sentenced to 7 years in prison for various conspiracy charges. Somehow the cops found out about the previous owner of the shops death, which lead to the discovery of other illegal activities like the storing of stolen goods in a butchers shop. The shop was closed down and sold off to someone else and his families name was somewhat tarnished though not entirely. Vasas was one of the first towns to be bombed when the war started some time later. His mother was killed as were most of the other townsfolk. Luckily the prison Anatoli was serving his sentence at was further inland towards Avea. Though he had survived the bombings, he only lived to be conscripted for a suicide mission.
