In G'day. 10 yrs ago Forum: Introduce Yourself
Hi there. I'm new here as of a day or so ago.
I have some experience with Roleplaying, a tiny bit with tabletop games, and I'm shamelessly self-plugging my recent post in the casual interest check : http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/80692-project-slayer/ooc
I could play as Agent Florida, the grizzled veteran of a hundred battles with two months until retirement, a wife and kid back home waiting..... Hummm what are some other "this character is so ----ing dead soon" cliches?
Interest migrated.

Awesome. one person. It's a start...
Have been playing with something on paper for a couple of days. Interested to bounce ideas off people and build a good setting and RolePlay. Would like to break a few established conventions and try out something new.

-------

Seventeen years ago the world ended.
Almost, anyway.

it wasn't a single day of disaster and death, more a series of seemingly unrelated events, catastrophic accidents and dark deeds, set in motion over many years, coalescing to what might have been the end of all things.
And just to absolutely piss everyone off, it reached its climax on the year 2012.

Humanity survived as it is well known for doing, slowly rebuilding and recuperating, reclaiming the world from the mysterious apocalypse that choked Earth's cities with unnatural growth, sunk entire states beneath the waves and brought impossible new climates and conditions.
Humanity slowly recovers its lost world and has found that it is no longer alone.

First there were the scavenger creatures, foul and depraved monsters from our earliest nightmares: Vampyres, horrifying mutants on wings, gaining power whenever they consumed the fallen. Their close allies, the Wilde, the twisted amalgamation of human and beasts, eager to consume the living and the dead.
beset by such horrors, humanity fought with what remained of their strength.
They were joined by their allies, The Demons.

Once refugees from a war torn Otherworld, once hidden in the shadows and forgotten places, The Demons surged forward to bolster humanity's ranks, granting them powers born from their arcane technology, vowing victory in exchange for a home in the open.
Soon they were victorious, treaties were signed between the remaining human generals, the Demon Magi, the Vampyr matriarchs and the Wilde Lord Alpha. There would be a lasting peace

The Demons would integrate with a grateful humanity, their knowledge of arcane machines fueling new advances in science and technology. Vampyrs in human domains would live as second-class citizens, shunned and mistrusted. the Wilde would retreat into the wilderness and the under-realm, a maze of tunnels and caverns formed from sunken and buried human cities.

for a long time since the peace has stood in effect.
Soon though, new players will begin to move on the broken Earth:
The thousand black armies from the Demon's former world approach, seeing Earth as a perfect staging ground for their eternal civil war.
The Celestial empire, Angelic beings of light, would seek to bring a weakened humanity under their command as they seek dominion over all things.
The Fae, mysterious and disturbingly alien beings, have been spotted in the overgrown streets of the concrete jungle, people vanishing wherever the Fae roam.
unfathomable and mysterious creatures are witnessed in all corners of the globe, Ancient myths lost cities are being discovered to be more than just tales, and old magics are beginning to spark back to life.

--------
Tech level is semi-advanced. Stuff like projectile firearms are still the most commonly used and combustion engine/electric cars exist, though something like a laser gun or a hover-car, whilst extremely rare, ridiculously expensive and hard to come by, are not impossible.
Magic is possible amongst few people and is absolutely not easy for anyone to control. waving a stick and saying a Latin word will probably result in self combustion, or calling forth a ravenous horror from the unknown dimension, running through a spell meticulously and with absolute precision still has a chance of setting the spell-caster on fire.

Edit:

NEW IDEAS.
Main settings:

- Avalon. Last remaining bastion of humanity in Europe, built upon the ruins of Paris and headquarters of the newly formed European Coalition. The city itself stretches out for miles, separated by tiered walls and a thriving underground metropolis. With the exception of permitted visitors, the city holds a militant policy of accepting Humans only through its gates.
population: aprox 2.5 million.
Authority: Euro-col, controlling Aristocracy.

- Fu Sang. A city forged by the united survivors from China, Japan, Australia and other surrounding nations. This city half-floats upon the small islands it bridges and boasts entirely water based highways and transportation systems. It also functions as the port for the sea-fortress Atlantis and the rest of the Australian navy.
Population: aprox 7 million.
Authority: Royal family, Chinese and Japanese royalty bound by marriage.

- El Dorado. The Americans Retreated form their ravaged and destroyed united states to the central mountains of Panama, constructing an astounding tower fortress that tunnels deep into the earth and rises out of the highest peaks of the mountains. To this end it has become a rich center of resource trade from their expansive mines, as well as maintaining a powerful military presence with the aid of their enormous air-force.
Population: aprox 7.5 million.
Authority: elected commander in chief (military background required).
