edit: I actually did it (giving help) because it made me feel good about myself (i knew a lot about the subject). so it was a very selfish impulse that motivated me to do it

If insulting a portion of the thread makes you more 12 than any 12 year old, what do you get when you insult all of the thread but yourself? I meant those being insulted were being insulted because they were acting like they were 12, not the ones doing the insulting. Although the insulting isn't mature either, really. Oh, and I really count myself in group 4, too, so y'know. Nice try, but clearly we're talking at cross-purposes here. :)

taaj, you need to write more. you can't just write 4500 words (17 amazon pages = 4500-5000 words) and expect popularity ..

well, i don't know what you're aiming for, but 4500 words won't get you much of anything

short story collections generally do poorly

you have to write a novel 60000- 80000 words and there's all sorts of factors that are important to how well that novel sells
cover art, blurb description, first five pages, the story itself, the title!

i can give you a ton of ebooks and reading material if you want to succeed in self pub or a fiction=writing career

writing 5000 words (and it's not even one story, it's multiple stories) and then marketing it to death is not going to get you anywhere

One of the coolest things about self-publishing is that you can publish whatever the fuck you want to. It doesn't have to be a calculated career move, vetted by a publishing firm. Taaj wrote these, and wanted to share her work, so she's put it up for free and has told us about it because we've known her for ages. Somehow, I doubt being a financial success is at the top of her priority list with this one, so maybe tone down the criticism a bit, hm? Try reading the stories she's giving you for free, and maybe share your thoughts about those, rather than having a go at someone who's writing and self-publishing for pleasure, not gain, and is just sharing that with us.

So in this thread, we have:

1. Randoms who think this forum exists solely for them to pour every ounce of inanity in their minds into, and complain when people get irritated.

2. Newbies acting tough and insulting the randoms 'cause "hey that's what Spam does, AMIRIGHT LOL", even though the vast majority of said newbies are as bad or worse.

3. Even newbier newbies freaking because a mod posted and thinking that means they're going to get banned. Seriously?

4. Old members insulting all of these people because they're all being more 12 than any 12 year old has before.

5. People like me, analysing the thread because they want to be a part of things (#bandwagon) but don't want to get wrapped up in all the bullshit outlined above.

I thought this was just another "pointless thread" of old, but on a whole other level it's a perfect cross-section of Spam's demographic. Nothing has really changed, the only difference is that the number of 4s has massively decreased in recent times while the number of 1s and 2s has spiked.
