Do people even do Fate RPs that aren't schoolwork assignments? What's the point in having to make a massive CS filled with stats and skills and spells. Why can't we just have fun instead of Minmaxing?

I mean maybe. But weapons of that size and such aren't things your characters would likely have to begin with.
Depends really what you mean. If you're asking if swords and the like are realistic in size or Fantasy size like Cloud's Buster Sword, it's really up to you. I personally imagine that even in a world of fantasy, you would need some sort of magical assistance to wield a weapon as big as you see in the Monster Hunter series, but magic isn't exactly super common in this world.
Basically, it's a Monster Hunter RPG. Not based on the Monster Hunter Series, just a similar idea. Fantasy world which I'll explain more of if there's enough interest. But let me get this out of the way.

The RPG Elements Are:

Currency - The 'party' will have a set amount of money to begin with. Every job you take on (AKA every monster you hunt) will earn you money. Everything you need will cost money. A place to stay, food and drink. You want to go out and party, it'll cost you. You want to buy potions, have your equipment repaired, all that stuff, it will again, cost money. But most things aren't required. It will just affect how you RP. If you don't repair your gear, you as the writer should understand that your character is walking around with broken armor or whatever. Or if you slept outside on the ground instead of in a tavern... you're going to probably be in a lot of pain.

Upgrades - You can upgrade things in your life that will grant you the ability to save money, or make more money. For example, staying at a tavern every time you're not on a job will cost a lot more money than actually having a house to live in. (Rent isn't a thing for owned houses so yeah.) Likewise you can't hunt certain monsters without a boat or an airship, both of which are very expensive purchases, but you can see how they are a form of progression within the RP.

Stats - Your characters will have stats, however these stats aren't strength, intellect, whatever. These stats revolve around crafts and the like. Gathering, Alchemy, Engineering, all of these things have specific purposes such as brewing your own potions, or using supplies available to you to create some form of siege equipment that can be better used to take down a monster. This isn't a full tabletop, so don't expect like, roll checks or anything. It's basically just "I want to do a thing" "You fail because your character is socially inept"

So yeah you can think of this all like a game of sorts, but you should also be thinking about character progression and development, not just playing it like an RPG where the end goal is to become rich.

Basis of the story is that four characters come together to form a new monster hunting guild. It's just the four of them, and so you can only start off taking pretty simple jobs. Build a name for yourself, get more equipment to take on larger threats, and eventually even start taking on new members of the guild, as much larger threats won't be able to be handled by just four people, and you will need side NPCs to help you.

It's undecided if I'll be playing a hunter myself, or just sort of like GMing the whole deal.

Anyways, any questions or whatnot are welcome, I'm not sure if I've made the whole thing clear.
I love mech related things. I grew up with Gundam 00, Mech Assault Long Wolf, Chromehounds, and Armored Core: For Answer. Those were my mech games/anime that I knew best. But the one that has stood out as my favorite, was Gundam. Funny enough, I never really got into any other Gundam series. Gundam 00 is the only I have watched. So when it comes to making a Mech focused RP, to me it only makes sense to make a Gundam RP, or a Free Form Non Fandom RP. I suppose this means I'm going with the Former.

So yes, Gundam 00, AU RP. What do you need to know?

Well first this won't be a RP where we play Gundam Meisters piloting Gundams. Gundams are just too powerful, and there is rarely a reason for them to be challenged. Short of being just massively out numbered with full force, they aren't ever honestly really challenged, save for a few times when very special Mobile Suits showed up, but they were in fact defeated. And we can't very much have a RP where every single conflict is the entire military force of Earth versus a few Gundams. So for these reasons, we won't be actually using Gundams.

This isn't to say however that Gundam-Like Mobile Suits won't be allowed. It's just, you know... no Trans-Am, no ridiculously advanced technology on your mech that puts you leagues ahead of everyone else. Yes, that includes just slapping an "Experimental" title onto overpowered things as an excuse to have them.

What we will be doing instead is playing as pilots of a nation. Either The Union, Human Reform League, or AEU. All players should be of the same faction, so we'll decide that ahead of time. There's no point of telling two or three different sides of the same story in my opinion, and splitting people up so that each person can only interact with a very limited number of people in the RP. This is intended to be a small group, so if we have 4 people... that would mean we would have 2 groups who can only interact with the other person in their group, or we'd have two groups with only one member. That'd be pretty awkward now wouldn't it.

Regardless of what nation we pick however, all Mobile Suits are available to play as, as long as it makes sense for them to be piloted by normal pilots. This includes Mobile Suits from a different series, as long as they don't have some special ability or weapon attached like "This thing can destroy a planet because of its special main weapon!" Yeah no. You can use the appearance and name of the Mobile Suit, but not the OP weaponry.

The AU specifically is taking place during a time where Celestial Being is believed to have been defeated, but the world did not come together to form the UN. Instead, they continued their wars against each other fighting over the Orbital Elevators, while Celestial Being regained strength from a surprise attack that was believed to have destroyed them. In reality, they just needed a lot of repairs... and upgrades.

So the RP will be focusing on battles and politics between the three factions, their reactions to other events, and the development of the characters together as a group.

Characters from the anime, as well as OCs are both welcome. I'll personally be playing as Soma Peries if this whole thing goes through. Mind you, some backstory may need to be rewritten to fit characters into the faction we choose. Like Soma is a part of the HRL, but if we decide as a group to play as The Union I'll need to put in some backstory details as to why she's with The Union, not the HRL.

But it's an AU so that's all fine.
