House History:
House Vidokar were originally kings in the days of old, their holding were roughly twice as large, founded by the the first Thunder King Murgrave Vidokar. As legend holds Murgrave wed the daughter Ajruna of thunder god Korman. Angry at Murgrave the thunder god threw a thunderbolt down at the man, acting quickly he swung his sword deflecting the godly lighting back. Defying the gods themselves for his bride. Instead of being angered further Korman was impressed by this human Murgrave. Ascending from the sky, Korman looked upon the two lovers. It was in this moment Korman spared Murgrave, but was insistent on taking his daughter back. Before Ajruna took her father's hand, she gave the Thunder King a child. Like him in all aspects except shimmering blue eyes that glowed like sapphires for him to remember her by, a trait shared with all those of Vidokarin blood. That is the legend or so it is written by the historians of old, no one knows if it's true but those in the Rainlands believe it's so.
In history the Thunder King's resisted the growing Handon kingdom openly defying them in the early early before the uniting of the realms. Forcing the early Handon kings to years of warfare, both sides bled nearly to the point that they had to conscript children. Handon was winning though and the Vidokarian king had suffered from madness and killed himself. The king's only child Corili a warrior princess had taken the legendary sword of Murgrave ‘Thunder Bouncer’ and charged at the Handon camp. Trivial as it was their last charge in defiance as the Storm Guard, the most hardened knights charged without the fear of death. Crashing into the Handon lines as each knight took twenty men before their own deaths, leaving only Corili as its last survivor and surround by Handonian king and his guard.
Demanding her submission instead she spat at his feet, normally an insult but instead seeing the stubbornness of the Vidokars, he seen a dangerous ally if coaxed properly. The king would let her live, retain her position and power, and his bastard son. Spitting blood out as she stood up Corili demanded the match be matrilineal. The Handon king laughed seeing this woman remained defiant to the end and agreed to the terms.
In more recent times the Vidokar’s have remained loyal despite urging more recent kings for expansion, meaning war but it fell on deaf ears. The last time such a notion was offered was when Lord Edmund Vidokar mentioned it to King Merin, the two had an argument that was said to shake the ground the two stood upon. Lord Edmund never again returned to the capital nor any event that included Merin or anything associated with him. Straining the two. Edmund didn’t rebel because he didn’t have the manpower to openly defy the realm and Merin didn’t act because it was Edmunds realm that was supplying the realm with nourishment it sorely needed.
Since that point the Rainlands have been quiet and contributing their to the realm but now with the kingship open for the taking, perhaps it is their time. Most people will think that the Vidokar’s will try to buy the crown so to speak or if someone can tame or coax the stubborn heir apparent Richelle and split the power. Such actions remain gossip but who knows the truth for sure.
Lands and Ownership:
The Vidokar family has held the lands in the northeast. Featuring a climate that relaxes even the most tempered soul. Green plains with the occasional hills as far as the eye can see, steeped with farms and livestock that feed the realms. They’re specially known for their wines, from sweet to dry any palate is sated with what they have to offer. In the Rainlands as they’re traditional called hunger is almost nonexistent as food flows like the mightiest rivers. The Rainlands though as their namesake implies sporadic heavy rains, especially during the spring. Dams and ditches are common sight among the more farm heavy areas of the Rainlands.
Boasting large populations because of such fertile lands, the Rainlands field larger armies than most. Not as good as their Bosandan counterpart but numbers to account for something. Rainlanders do boast to have the best knights in the realm, chivalry and the knight’s code are common law and bound in iron. Drills and mock battles take place annually to keep the knight’s sword and wit sharp.
Rainlands boast several large cities and ports cities that bring in more wealth and commerce. Blackport one of the larger coastal cities brings in foreign trade and exotic merchandise that is circulated around the realms of Handon, most noteworthy is purple dye and sugar. The largest city is Bluewater Rush and home of the ruling family the Vidokar’s castle of Three Towers. Based on the mouth of Blue Fork river, it encompasses both sides and partially into the waters of the massive lake of Sapphire Eye. Three Towers sits in the middle of river with a solitary bridge to the massive keep that forks and connects both sides of the sprawling city.
Three towers as the name implies is a castle with three massive towers sprouting above the rest of the castle. Built by the Thunder King Murgrave Vidokar at the founding of his mighty line. In its history it has never been taken by invading forces. Stepped in history and size it inspires the populace who still keep to their old way of the worshiping of the storm god, even as the old religion wanes by the priests of other gods.
Autobiographical Knowledge: Richelle is the eldest out of twelve girls and two wives from Lord Edmund Vidokar. Honestly it was no option for Edmund to choose if his first born daughter as his lawful heir, Richelle is her father incarnate. Taking to the sword and the spear from an early age Richelle has grown to be one of the most accomplished knights in the Rainlands, taking the traditional title of Ser at the age of seventeen. It came to no surprise when she had been knighted considering her father’s firm hand had molded her into the perfect soldier and commander, at least what Edmund envisioned one would be.
She is as tough as they come, surviving her father’s training you have to be. One day while training with her father, Richelle was left open and he showed no mercy as he clobbered the side of her face. Getting her balance back, she stood glaring at Lord Edmund and from the rumors she ripped her own tooth out. Returning to the spar as she struck her father back later in the evening, that strike would give him a permanent limp. As twisted as that moment was though it was the moment that father and daughter had bounded the most in.
With King Merin stepping down it brought stress with it as to be very honest she wanted nothing to do with. Hating the petty squabbling of the nobles with their ceaseless game of sly trickery, but with the election there was a potential gain for something greater than herself. Glory something which eluded her, something she craved more than any lust filled sailor could ever desire. Perhaps something like the Vidokar found Murgrave. Even she had to marry some other idiot who that he was better than her.
Richelle would play her part, as well as she could and put the focuses of family and the realm but her real motivator would be glory. Perhaps push her father’s agenda for expansion. One thing would be for sure though if she was elected as queen. She would rule much like the Corili did, make the man bend to her. It would be a queens world, no longer in the idle hands of a man. The realm is her’s for the taking, waiting to grasp such delicious notions.
