Zoey easily kept in pace with him, listening to her own music with one ear and listening to everything else around her with the other. She walked up to the edge of the park and paused, scanning the area. Being a school day at just barely noon, the park was quite empty, save for a few young kids and their parents, as well as much more aged humans. The small pond was reflecting the direct sunlight, making it seem white. Most of the benches were occupied and a large willow tree cast its shadow over the ground in the even less populated area of the park.
Zoey exited the cafe, then started a leisurely stroll to the park, watching the passing demons as they went. Some of them sneered at her and others hid behind their humans, meeting her green eyes with their own. One attempted to attack her, the human it belonged to giving her a bit of a glare as they passed, her hand twitched at her side, the demon getting knocked back, contenting itself with growling at her.
"Yeah. Might as well, since going back to school isn't an option." She stood up, swinging her bookbag over her shoulder again.
"Nah, anymore sugar and I'll get a headache." She drained the last of her latte, setting the cup back down on the table, the heat from the cup making a soft sizzling against the wooden table, dark singes marking the placement of the cup.
Zoey shrugged. "Fair enough." She finished off the cake then looked at the check, placing a ten dollar bill to pay for it, and the tip.
"Think anyone would ever be able to deal with your level of sarcasm?" Zoey replied, turning her attention to the slender black wolf lying at it's master's heels, shadows emitting from it's almost skeletal form, watching the other demons with narrow eyes.
The waitress returned, setting the check on the table and glancing nervously at Adam again. Zoey sipped her coffee again, watching the girl quietly slip back to behind the counter. She took a bite of the chocolate cake and returned to staring out the window. People passed by with various types of demons on their shoulders, or skulking in their shadows. All showing which of their human's sins were more distinguished. Some where multiple sins meshed into one grisly beastly shape.
Zoey kept her hand on her coffee cup, keeping it absolutely scalding despite the chill of the air conditioning that would have already cooled it otherwise. The waitress came back to check on them, blinking at the still steaming latte, before she could ask anything Zoey spoke up.
"We're fine, and we'll take the check now. I don't believe we'll need anything else."
Zoey finished off the cookie and plugged her headphones into her phone, putting one of the buds in her ear, leaving the other so she could still hear everything around her. She nodded her head in time to the song playing softly in her head.
Zoey chuckled, dipping a cookie into her latte and biting into the soft chocolate soaked side. She looked out the window. "We can go to the park I guess. It's a nice enough day."
