OOC is up. Check it out here.

Thousands of years ago, mortals rose up against the Gods, confronting them in a bloody conflict to gain immortality and divine power. As a consequence, the Gods severed the link to the elemental planes from the material world. Cut off from the elemental energies that power the material plane, the world died a slow death. Century by century, the sun grew dim, rains became scarce, beasts died off, and cities fell into decay and became ruins. Ten years ago, the sun set one final time, never to rise again.

It is in this doomed world where our heroes dwell. From humble beginnings they will find they are powerful, and unlock the ability to be a force for change in this age of darkness. Shall they rise to become mighty generals, leaders of fleets and armies? Or perhaps as powerful lords, with entire kingdoms resting upon their shoulders? Or perhaps they will pursue a more sinister ambition, pledging allegiance to a dark god and become a twisted sorcerer of terrible power? Your fate is in your hands.

Rules & Features
~ A homebrew world, with Humans, half-elves, orcs, half-orcs, dwarves, tieflings, and halflings.

~ Players will be responsible for their own character sheets, providing links from sites such as Dicecloud, so their character can be tracked.

~ Players begin at level one, beginning as small scale heroes and growing to be powerful figures in the world, if they survive.

~ A game that focuses on narrative > rules. Our objective here is to tell a great story, bending the rules of the game if need be.

~ We will be making use of Discord for game rolls to relay quick battle outcomes so players may begin IC asap.

~ Unique maps created with Campaign Cartographer to give players the information needed to immerse themselves in this world.

~ A West March game focused on the players, with the freedom to fulfill their own ambitions or take part in the main story at their leisure.

~ A high fantasy setting, with magic elements throughout the land, but magic users are rare, their power stemming from ancient bloodlines, descendents of the warriors that warred upon the Gods, stealing the divine power of magic as their own.

Below are the links you will need to begin your adventures in Shadow World. Firstly is the Player's Handbook, with fifth edition rules and guides to player creation and gameplay. Secondly is the Shadow World Handout that gives a brief overview of the campaign world and lore. Thirdly is the City of Haven News, which offers current events in the city of Haven, where our players will be beginning, as well as job postings and a city map. Lastly is a calendar so players can easily track time as it passes in the game.

Players may now begin creating their character sheets and begin writing up your backgrounds and backstories. I will be providing you with your ability score rolls, the rest is up to you. You're free to create your own class or draw from other sources when creating your character, I only ask that it fits with the overall setting.

This is a West March style game, meaning players control the narrative. You're free to make your own way in the world, unfettered from a single party or story thread. Our IC will be beginning soon, once we have our characters down. We all begin in Haven, during the Founder's Festival, so bear that in mind when creating your character. From here you may branch out in the world in whatever direction you like, just be cautious. We begin at level one, and are fairly weak in the grand scheme of things.

Take care, its a dangerous world out there.
Our discord channel is now online. Check it out here: discord.gg/CqXYVZR
@Pennydumb123 absolutely. It could be viewed that the gods abandoned the world and doomed it to darkness. Could certainly bold a grudge for that.
@Home Brewed would it be possible to play as a half-elf that was alive near the end of the war between gods?, I wanted to play a half-elf monk that held a grudge over his parents which disappeared, and basically wanted to destroy all gods. he acts like a crotchety old man over it, like Clint Eastwood

Afraid not as the war occurred thousands of years ago and half elves likely have a lifespan of ~ 100 years. That's not to say that other elements in that backstory would work nicely.
@dndragons i should have all that set up later today and feel free to fire off pms to discuss player creation. Before you guys get too deep in player creation I suggest you wait for the player handout, which should be finished tonight. It will have important details on the world and more.

Also you should know that player paths will be intersecting at game start. Plan to be attending a festival at a hub city dominated by humans and to a lesser extent, dwarves. There will be a tourney for nobles and gladiator games for baseborn competitors, and more.

Details will be in the handout.

You know we can do all of that stuff on this site, right?

You don't say?

I'd prefer the IC thread was clear of the nuts and bolts and left for rp with perhaps a hider to indicate roll outcomes. Should discord not work for a party due to schedules or what not, we can carry it over in the ooc thread.
@Home Brewed
Alrighty! My character will either be one of those stated profession, or maybe a Cleric of one of the Elven gods, if such exist. For domains, I was thinking of Arcana, Knowledge, or even Forge.

As for our stats, will we be using the standard array or a point buy?

I'll be rolling for your ability scores, 8 rolls and you pick 6. Should you feel you can't work with the rolls we can call a mulligan and try again.
@deadpixel101 please feel free to create your own class. As long as it's not OP or contradictory to the setting, ill approve it.
@Cu Chulainn that would indeed be fitting.
