" The end does not justify the means."
Veronika is a woman of few words. She speaks when she needs to, but she does not enjoy mindless chatter. She rarely talks about herself or her past, and if asked about it, your questions will fall on deaf ears. She always seems to have a distant look in her eyes, as if she is constantly pondering something or recalling better days. Despite her young physique, her eyes hold knowledge and wisdom, and it also shows in the way she carries herself.
Despite her aloof nature, Veronika does have a good heart. She will repay cruelty with kindness, and anger with calm. However, she is neither naive nor soft. The long years have hardened her, and she does not take lies and betrayal kindly. She is stern and unyielding when it comes to following rules and keeping order within the clan. She speaks kindly, but sometimes she might be hard β but fair.
Some might find her personality complex and unpredictable. She is both calculating and accepting, guarded and trusting. You never know which side of the coin you'll get. Nevertheless, Veronika's heart is in the right place. She has a strong sense of justice and is rather set on her ways. Because of this, it can be hard to reason with her or change her mind.

Pre-vampire:
Veronika Rose Cleveland, originally known as
Valerius Easton, was born out of wedlock in Roman Britain β specifically the province of
Britannia Superior β in the year 213 AD. Her mother was a provincial Roman woman and her father was a British governor. Interbreeding and inter-marriage were heavily frowned upon because of the social structure of Roman society, but they chose to brave the uncertainties when they found out they were expecting a child.
Veronika's childhood was not a peaceful one. War and violence was the norm. There was ongoing unrest, and the Roman Empire suffered from barbarian invasions and rebellions. In the year 228 AD, her father,
Marcus Easton, attempted an uprising. They were immediately crushed by a troop composed of a few elite soldiers, known as the
Legionaries, sent by the Roman Emperor. It was a mystery how a group of 30 was able to wipe out a military group composed of over 300 men. Sad to say, her father was sentenced to public execution that day, and his body was never returned. They never held a funeral.
After some time, rumors began to spread that the Roman Empire was secretly working with
demonic forces β the
supernatural. That would explain the power and formidable strength of their army. The Romans had conquered a vast empire that stretched from Britain all the way to the Middle East, and when the Romans had invaded Britain, their army took on armies 10 times their size, and they somehow reigned victorious. The suspicions only grew as the cases of night attacks across the provincial areas rose, with each one covered up as a wild-animal attack.
It was a fateful night when Veronika discovered the truth of
their bloody existence. The emperor had ordered his Legionaries to execute every living relative of the rebels who were behind the recent uprising. Their home was attacked at predawn, and her mother was killed right infront of her very eyes. What frightened her the most was that these men didn't look like ordinary soldiers. They had bloodshot eyes, deadly claws, and sharp fangs. They looked
feral. She watched in horror as one of them sunk their fangs into her mother's neck, dropping her lifeless body onto the ground after draining her of blood. Veronika was too stunned to even let out a scream.
At that moment, she was frozen still and unable to move her mouth or her limbs. Her entire body shook violently in fear as one of the younger soldiers walked towards her with a mischievous grin. "Young one, I'll let you live and leave you with a
parting gift," he snarled, lunging at her and sinking his teeth into her neck. She screamed in the dead of the night, and everything went black.
Early years as a vampire:
When Veronika awoke after the attack, she had already turned. She could not recall how she completed her transition, but the next two weeks were filled with bitter suffering as she tried to control her hunger and heightened senses. She felt alone, and she didn't know who she was, or rather,
what she was. There were several times where she had lost control and attacked unsuspecting humans, leaving her with so much guilt that she decided to hide herself away in the woods. Two days passed without feeding, and she started hallucinating and talking to herself. She eventually passed out from exhaustion.
When she woke up, she found herself lying on a bed in an unfamiliar place. A man she did not recognize offered her a goblet filled with blood, and she didn't waste a second as she greedily snatched it from his hand and drank. The man, who looked to be in his forties, soon explained that he had found her in the woods and took her to their manor. He assured her she was now safe, and that she was under the care of the
apothecaries. They were an organization composed of local apothecaries who produced and sold medicine, which was direly needed during those violent times. Their organization was called as the A.A., short for
Apothecary Association. Not everything was at it seemed. The apothecaries had secrets. Their organization was comprised of both humans and
vampires. The humans outweighed the number of vampires, as the vampires were mostly benefactors in exchange for refuge. The A.A. helped them create and polish their false identities so that they could blend into society much easier whilst still keeping a low profile. In addition, the medicine that the association produced also had one secret ingredient:
a drop of vampire blood. It aided in the healing process, and it was the reason why their medicine was so widely sought after across the empire. Together, they quickly gained more recognition and amassed wealth throughout the years.
With the help of the vampires in the association, Veronika learned what it truly meant to be one. She was trained to fight, hunt, and feed without killing. She also learned how to control her new-found strength and senses. They taught her everything there was to know. Being at the young age of 15, she was quickly able to adapt to her new lifestyle. The organization was like a tight-knit family, and they continued to live like that for a couple years, helping each other out as well running apothecary business.
However, as the existence of vampires became more known to the public, the number of hunters also grew. There was a growing threat that loomed over them, and they no longer felt safe staying in one place for too long. The secret hunters organization had grown stronger as the years went by. They first started attacking lone vampires, mostly freshbloods, and then they started targeting small clans. As their numbers continued to grow rapidly in a short amount of time, they even began to hunt bigger clans. They surprisingly had good intel, which meant that they had eyes everywhere. No one could be trusted.
With this knowledge in mind, the vampires of A.A. packed up and left Britain shortly after the end of the Roman rule. Most of them went their separate ways, but Veronika, along with five other vampires, stayed together and moved from nation to nation, living different lives in each place they settled in. They stayed in touch with the A.A. and its heirs, branching out their apothecary business across the globe as they continued to amass a huge fortune whilst also recruiting more vampires. There was strength in numbers, and in order to fight against the threat of the hunters, they had to gain more power. As their numbers grew, Veronika founded the Night Order.
16th century till present day:
In the late 16th century, the Night Order founded the first pharmacy in Germany. They have long parted from their practice of creating drugs which contained vampire blood, instead, they relied on scientific revolution and applied research to produce more advanced medicine. They have come a long way, starting out as local apothecaries, building pharmacies, and eventually expanding from their traditional role to wholesale manufacture in the mid-1800s. This was the beginning of the modern pharmaceutical industry.
With the fortune they've amassed over the centuries and the connections they've made across the globe, the Night Order decided it was time to look for a more permanent settlement, a place they could call
home. No more running. However, they knew it would be dangerous for the entire clan to settle in one place together. Their clan could be wiped out entirely if they were not careful of the Operation Humanity. So the founding members, along with their factions, decided to go their separate ways and settle in different parts of the world.
Veronika's faction traveled from Europe to South Carolina, where they found the town of Ember Grove. She purchased a huge plot of land right outside of town. She built a huge estate and mansion in the woods along Road 70, where her faction settled in. They've managed to keep a low profile throughout these years, disguising the mansion as a vacation home owned by a wealthy family from the east. The estate, as well as the forest that surrounded it, were privately-owned, so no one bothered to trespass.
After their settlement in Ember Grove, the founding members of the Night Order have since built several hospitals in Europe, America, and Asia, including the local hospital in Ember Grove. For this reason, they had a vast supply of blood bags, and they no longer needed to hunt. They also had consenting human employees who would let them feed if the occasion arose. That was rare.
Their biggest success was becoming the largest pharmaceutical company in the world. Their companies and businesses were spread apart and managed by the founding members and high-ranking members of the clan. They didn't have one pool fund. Instead, all properties and assets were divided equally among the founding members and distributed to their members. To this day, they continue to run and expand their business empire, creating connections and growing their numbers.
