My plan is to blunder into UK airspace, going, "where the hell is the convoy I was escorting? I'm so freaking fired." And then report back to the USA. You know, after refueling at the nearest allied airship-friendly base. Which is, what, Cardington? Inchinnan?

Just about to update the map. Let me know if anyone notices mistakes.

Expect another update shortly. And then us starting shortly.

I think Greenland and Iceland were under United States' control at this point?

The British Empire has really changed with this time distortion :)

Not to mention most of the free Dutch forces vanishing in an instant xD
@Deaddlife

Cool. So Tulsa is from an alternate timeline then. I guess that in aforementioned timeline, airship usage was expanded and developed to a greater extent or something.
So I assume the USS Tulsa is from an alternate timeline, right? Or did they actually use airships in the Battle of the Atlantic? I can't say I've heard anything about them, if so.

A good way to start would be British reconnaissance aircraft encountering a giant airship in the North Atlantic, and leading it to Glasgow.
Well, Yllendthyr may side with the Axis later if their interests coincide. In which case America may be too busy with a certain pointed eared neighbor to support Europe.

That puts British Guiana at risk. I hope the Axis can be defeated before this option is explored by the elves.

From a roleplaying perspective, excellent! We need adversaries.
@Iluvatar

I love that series so much. And this is the exact time when it happened too.

In regards to global geopolitics, we do need an Axis player. I would desert for the sake of the storyline but then we wouldn't have a communist player.

It's great isn't it :) I shall take inspiration from it, I think.

I can't realistically volunteer myself as an Axis member in addition to Britain since the Empire was involved in virtually all theatres of war.

Oh yeah Canada to the Rescue

Again :)

We Brits owe a great debt to Canada.
@Iluvatar

At this point in the history Britain was already declined due to indias push for independance (gained in 1947 or 1950, cant remember) and various America deals that ultimately saved Britain, albeit at the cost of their empire. If we are keeping some semblance of history, by 1941 Britain is in no position to do much in regards of expansion just due to the epic pounding they have received time and time again.

On the flip side, Britain really proved itself as a strong nation that wouldn't be taken easily as with France and many others. Battle of Britain is just such an incredible feat.

I love American history during ww2 because it was just incredible how a nation with a military less than 200,000 strong grew to be the worlds strongest but if you really study how much of a beating Britain took and still came out as one of the leaders of the modern world is just incredible.

However neither country could compare to the 25 million that Russia lost.

Aside from history I'm really excited to see where you take Britain after ww2, assuming the rp lasts that long.

Also, once I get a verdict on japan ill start an intro post.

I know Britain is in no condition to seek expansion of the Empire. I plan to try to take the UK through the war much as we did in our time line, but expending more resources on defending the homeland's infrastructure and rebuilding it to avoid relying so heavily on whatever equivalent of the Dawes Plan (if any) comes to pass.

Basically, I will try to make Britain less dependant on the USA and preserve the Empire's integrity to a greater extent. If the RP lasts until the close of the war, Britain will be more assertive in relations with the US and the rest of the world - for example, demanding the data on atomic weapons mostly denied to the British in our history, despite the close cooperation of the USA, Canada and Britain in nuclear research.

Also, Britain will probably grant India far greater autonomy rather than total independence. Perhaps even a Dominion. But it's not like Ghandi's going to raise an armed rebellion, now, is it?

Hopefully, you as the USA would then regard the British as a partner in whatever Cold War would inevitably result from the war, rather than what amounts to little more than a vassal even today in our timeline.

Oh, and any equivalent of the Suez Crisis in the RP, should it go on that long, will be treated differently than how it was in our history. It is my opinion that the US would never have devalued the Pound Sterling even in our time for fear of scaring other nations into the Soviet camp.

I love Second World War history as well :) I particularly like the British aspects of the conflict, as Brit, but also because it is interesting how the greatest Empire on earth was brought low by someone trying to 'save European civilisation', Hitler. I doubt he would have favoured the USA's rise to power, surpassing Europe.

Obviously, Britain has a powerful and privileged place in the modern world. But to us, so dwarfed by the USA, Russia, China and even India, to a extent, it is a long way from the 'good ol' days' of the Empire. We even accept the truth of the fact that we are a pawn wielded by the US President ('cough, Bush/Blair, cough...').

In short, as I've already said, my goal is to bring Britain through the war in an even better position than it was in real life.

Of course, in real life, it is my opinion that there was little reason for Britain to become involved in WWI and thus lose its Empire. But that's a discussion for another time.

Wow, that was long winded. Sorry!
+Nation Name: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (core territories), the British Empire
+Leader: King George VI, Prime Minister Winston Churchill
+Allegiance: Allied Powers. War began once Nazi Germany invaded Poland, which had a defensive pact with the United Kingdom. Although British opinion was against war, once the danger presented by Germany became clear in the lead up to the conflict, the government took measures to rearm and bolster the French. These ultimately succeeded in saving the British Isles from invasion, but could not save any of Britain's continental allies.
+Government: Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy (UK), Colonial Empire
+Military: The British military is large and diverse, consisting primarily of native British troops and Indians. Commonwealth forces are under overall British command and play an important role.

The Royal Navy is the largest in the world, consisting of many battleships, frigates, and a number of aircraft carriers, amongst other vessels. This force is scattered around the globe, with largest forces present in the North Atlantic and to a lesser extent in South East Asia.

The United Kingdom and its Empire wields a potent airforce, swelled in size and power with the advent of mass conscription and 'total war' production across both the British Isles and the Imperial holdings. The Commonwealth has assisted the British here also - Canada alone has contributed over 30 squadrons of aircraft. Most of the aircraft used are somewhat outdated compared to the other powers of the time, but more advanced models such as the Spitfire and Hurricane, as well as Lancaster Bombers, are replacing the older aeroplanes.

The British army is neither the largest nor the most well-equipped force in the world, but stands among the greatest nonetheless. Since the evacuation at Dunkirk, the United Kingdom's army has grown exponentially with conscription, and has been locked in conflict with the Italians in North Africa since the Fall of France. Although British soldiers make up a large part of the Army, Britain draws much of its force from its colonies, particularly India (34 infantry divisions, for example). Its tanks are capable and a force to be reckoned with, but are by no means as technologically advanced as its German and American counterparts, for example.

Overall, Britain's strengths lie in the Royal Navy and the vast resources and manpower it can draw from its Dominions and the Empire. Its weaknesses come from its inability to fight on all fronts and protect the entire Empire at once, and its dependence on the United States for supplies and loans.

+Current Deployment of Forces: Scattered across the globe. Significant concentration of forces in North Africa, the British Isles, and India. Limited forces in Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Aircraft concentrated in Europe.

+Territories:
Ready for some Commonwealth cooperation mrambo90?
@Iluvatar Accepted! And I look forward to seeing how the only two current real nations (USA and UK) make out.

Good catch! I'll fix it in the next version of the map.

Yay :D And Canada now, I believe. I guess the North Atlantic Triangle may have to unite against the threat of random elven stuff and alternate actually-somewhat-functional communist states as well as the Axis.

Does this remind anyone else of Harry Turtledove's Worldwar series when aliens invaded halfway through the Second World War?
