Current I'd say your worst side's your best side.

You like to think that you're the best part of me but I confess, there is nothing left of you here.

I serve it up in a shot so suck it down like a man.

But no matter how many fish in the sea, it'd be so empty without me.

Nya woke to a stream of dazzling sunlight in her room. She stretched slightly and felt stiff. I should have eaten more than just junk last night, she thought, forgive me please, body. She rolled on her side and glanced at the clock. The bright red numbers blinked 12:01. “Oh shit,” she breathed. She leaped out of bed and grabbed the watch on the desk across the room. 7:34am. Nya breathed a sigh of relief, her heart still pounding fiercely. She wasn’t entirely late but breakfast had to be fast. She threw on her guard uniform and whipped her hair up into a messy ponytail. It would have to do. She jogged to the dining hall, doing lunges while she ate, and then jogged to the training room. At least she’d have that minor warm up. A few students were already there, lounging around casually while they waited for class to start. She saw two girls up against the wall, chatting quietly. They looked like they knew each other pretty well. Nya also saw Paige across the room. She waved at her but decided to walk over to the blonde and brunette talking to each other. Personality analysis of every recruit was a necessity, even if it meant tedious social interaction.

Nya expected that Seril would just follow right after her but he, instead, told her that he needed to step out for a smoke. "Oh, uh yeah. Just, uh, find me whenever." She tried not to sound too disappointed that she'd be walking to the dining hall alone. There was no reason for her to be nervous. She knew what to expect from dinner. They parted ways at the end of the hall and Nya headed in to eat.

When she reached the dining hall, what seemed like complete chaos was ensuing. Girls were draped over boys, people were complaining about the food, and she couldn't even see if the teachers were in the room. This is absolutely not what I was expecting. Anytime Codeeva spoke about dinner, Nya was left with visions of an elegant and sophisticated event. But, this wasn't any different than her prep school. How disappointing she thought. Her stomach growled, reminding her of her intent in being here. She walked over to a table that was currently unoccupied in hopes of being able to survey her environment while she ate. Immediately a group of servers brought her multiple trays excessively filled with every type of food she could think of. She had always wanted to eat her dessert first as a kid but had never been allowed. She immediately dove into a piece of cheesecake and settled in to watch everyone around her.

As soon as Seril asked about the dining hall, an announcement came over the loud speaker, beckoning them all to dinner. Nya stood up abruptly and motioned for him to follow her. "It's this way, I'll show you. But we need to take a short detour into my room so I can change. It'll only take a second. Is that ok?" She didn't wait for him to answer. Fortunately he followed her but stood awkwardly in the doorway. He was a bit fidgety, lightly tapping on the door frame. Impatient boy is impatient she thought. Then she chuckled at her introverted wit. Nya grabbed the recruit gear off her bed and moved just out of sight to change. She continued talking to Seril so he would know not to leave. "My brother graduated Guard training. He was top of his class. He'll be 17 in a few weeks so he hasn't been out on the front-lines yet but I know he's itching to get there. He's going to be amazing, I already know it." She had finished getting dressed quickly and was back to Seril by the end of her anecdote. "Well, I'm starving and I will die if I miss out on the food for even one night. It's rumored to be the best in all of Focal. Are you ready?"

I'm sure this has been said many times but for some people, the thirst is too real.
