Squirt- Because he was always rather short when growing up. He almost always refused to respond to it but would answer to it accidentally, resulting in a lot of teasing.

Appearance
Daniel is still dwarfed by many of his family members, standing at around 5'6, even though he swears up and down that he's 5'7. His height and build make for quite a slim and unassuming character, but he's refined himself to exude and more sleek air, with slim fitting suits and expensive cologne.

His hair, if not kept under strict control, will curl and fluff in all directions, and it's the only thing about him that seems exciting rather then the strictly colour-inside-the-lines rule that he sticks to otherwise. In the morning's, he'll normally look like there's a poodle on top of his head, giving the image of a much younger man. He has a pale complexion, from not going out too much and then somehow only going out when it's cloudy or raining. His eyes are a pale shade of a mix of blue and green.  He used to have to wear thick, nerdy glasses to see, but has moved on and now wears contact lenses. 

Daniel doesn't look to have a casual bone in his body, much preferring nice suits rather then t-shirts and jeans. Slacks and a shirt are about as informal as you'll ever see him. The only eye catching thing about his attire will normally be his ties, which range in different colours and patterns from day to day.

Personality
Daniel isn't the best at letting his emotions be known to the world. Sure he can make polite conversation, and bullshit his way through any interactions, but dealing with his feelings when he's in an emotionally vulnerable state...he'll most likely just bottle up all his feelings until it just builds up and he explodes out. A time like that isn't the best time to be around him. When he gets angry however, it's very obvious. It's the kind of anger that isn't hot and passionate. It's calculated to be cause as much pain to you, as he's feeling in that moment. After someone's gotten on his bad side, he certainly won't forget, and they can expect muttered snarky comments and a whole lot of passive aggressiveness. He doesn't stoop so low as to talk about people behind their back however.

In his line of work, you have to be a smooth talker to get what you want, and most of that rides on the ability to make people see your way. And that's exactly what he does best. He could have succeeded in sales, how he can spin a world right in front of someone's eyes. But even as he's a skilled public speaker, when faced with his family, he loses most of that confidence. He used to have a horrible stutter when he was younger, addressed by his parents scornfully as a 'speech impediment' and it returns, not in full force, but just enough to be noticeable, even after all the therapy. He also has a habit of talking to himself, because it helps him to get everything ordered in his mind. Most of the time if he asks someone to discuss something with him, he'll likely just bounce ideas off of them before he finds one that he likes.

He's the type to think of the glass as half empty rather then half full, and won't take chances unless they are strictly in his favour. Perfectly content with staying in his own comfort zone, he takes some convincing to do something he has no interest in.

History
Daniel had gotten the early impression that his parents weren't all that interested in him. Of course, he knew why, they were busy with their work. And now looking back, he can't think badly of them for it. He was just passed from nanny to nanny, and the only times he ever got acknowledged by them was the few times that they had a family dinner-always horribly awkward-and from their absentminded comments on his education. Even as a child, the most caring thing they ever did for him was send him to a speech therapist for his stutter, and even that was just a couple hours of torture every week. So he never really bonded with them, as perhaps he should've, instead just spending most of his free time in his room reading books and  drawing, although that particular hobby never really got off the ground.

At school he had just enough friends to get by, because having none would be clear social suicide, as seen from the many students that sat alone and were bullied because of it. He learned that being by yourself was essentially declaring your vulnerability to the world, and that was something he was not inclined to do. And so, apart from his grades he kept under the radar, a completely average young boy. But by the time he was 11, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life. He was going to be lawyer.

And that was what carried him through high school, losing new friends, gaining some more but all with the goal of becoming someone in the world who had the power to do some good. He wasn't the type to waste his time partying, and it seemed that as soon as he graduated from his senior year he dove headfirst into demanding schedule of a law student. After getting his degrees for Criminal Law, he got a few options, interviewed for all of them and was accepted into a firm. Working his way up from an associate was hard work, but it certainly paid off after all the years because he got the title of junior partner. This is when he met Katelyn of course, and he hired as a paralegal and hasn't regretted it at all since.

Education
He got his Bachelors degree in Criminal Law at Yale, as well as his Masters.

Favorite memory
When he won his first case while still being wet behind the ears, and feeling that rush of adrenaline, powered by satisfaction and joy at doing some good in the world.

Least favorite memory
Realising that no matter how much he wanted it, and how hard he tried, he wouldn't be able to have a normal relationship with someone, and that he wouldn't be able to fill all their needs.

As she introduced herself and shook his hand, he made a note of her name and tone of voice, filing it away for future use. Remembering people was certainly harder for him, as he didn't have a face to associate the name with, but instead a voice. She sounded nice, not sickly sweet like some other girls he'd met, but with a sincere and honest tone that he could appreciate. She sounded like she was smiling. It wasn't that odd, you could tell a lot from a persons voice. It was easy to hear if someone was upset, or angry. It changed how the words were said, if the syllables were hard sharp, or soft and wistful.

He heard the guide start talking about mentors and handing out notices. He heard the rustling of paper being passed from hand to hand and he sighed, adjusting his grip on his cane. This happened every time. Sure printing in braille was expensive, but couldn't they have thought ahead? They should know that they'd have a blind student arriving, and at least made a small effort to accommodate him. Another person spoke up before the guide could mess this up as well, and told him to give it to the girl beside him. Nina. He felt a twinge of pity for her, as she probably didn't want to be saddled with a handicapped kid like him, but it was too late. The guide had moved on and they were evidently stuck with each other. 

An apologetic look on his face, he shrugged. "Sorry you're stuck with me now. Don't worry, I'm not as high maintenance as that teacher made me seem. All you really need to do is walk beside me to stop me from walking into any crowds. And tell me if the teacher's writing on the board. Also worksheets because I doubt they'll get things printed in braille just for me." He laughed a little, embarrassed. "This is actually making me seem helpless isn't it." Rubbing the back of his hand, he sighed. He hated this. He hated how dependent he had to be, and how, even if he wanted to, he couldn't do things on his own. Schools had special programs for all kinds of learning disabilities, but few could accommodate someone who was blind. There was just so much work that had to be done for someone like him.
