Well since I'm the other front line fighter I will tell you what I have might as it might help you make decision. So far my barbarian has scale mail, a battle axe and a wooden sheild.

Have to admit they where along shot at best will keep looking.

I'm guessing the underwater races stay alive by hiding from the surface.

I found a race that I like its called the Skarn. Not a lot to them but I like wha they have and not a lot of penalties.
