Bio

A quick introduction of myself and a few associates of mine

For real though, I'm a Brit who dabbles in most genres of roleplay, but tends to go for fantasy and sci-fi in particular. I prefer high casual, but will use a more or less advanced writing style if I like the concept.

Diana was taking over behind part of an assembly line, since enough smoke had cleared for her to be shot at, when she got the call. From Ray. Nothing specific, but he'd said enough to tell her that something had gone wrong (she'd cut off the call the moment the inmate had said "Pizza Hut"). Damn, that had been important. The subject could have been useful, an asset, but now he was worse than that, worse even than nothing. He was a threat, but then he had always been unpredictable. With luck, he wouldn't hold a grudge.

Diana opened fire again, trying to cover Anya as she ran for the ship. A bullet deflected off her cheek, and the impact knocked her face to the side, so she was looking at the door. It was then that she saw the inmate entering the building, with Ray's body behind him. Her third eye zoomed in on it to show a gunshot wound, not a sword wound, and several dead mercenaries viscously cut in two by the inmate. This was good. Though the inmate was, as mentioned, unpredictable, this was a good sign. Being a little too occupied to make a call, Diana once again used her third eye, this time to send an image of the ship to Ray's phone, hoping that the inmate would get the message. She then got herself onto the ramp of the ship and remained there, helping anyone else who got on after her.

Diana was just down the hallway from Anya when she was killed. She had been facing away, so she hadn't seen what happened, but having spent years on a military ship, she knew what to do even as Colin was saying it. Fortunately, ships that tend to be shot at also tend to prepare for being shot at, so it was only a matter of grabbing the canister (similar to a fire extinguisher, but coloured bright yellow instead of red so the difference was clear) and filling the breach.

Then, Diana turned to SIGINT. The girl was a wreck. Diana had seen people die before, like Ray, only a few minutes ago. It never got easier, but this was different. The shot had been aimed at SIGINT, not Anya. One person dead in the place of another. A feeling of guilt, this was what was different, but again it was only the beginning of the story. There was a familiarity in SIGINT's eyes. This was not the first time someone had died to save her. This was something Diana couldn't empathise with, and though she wanted to comfort the girl, she had no idea how. It was then that she saw the data drive. She picked it up.

"This is difficult. You've just watched a person who's already saved your life die to do it again. I wish I could help, but no one else will be able to carry this burden. It's yours. Don't let it break you, use it to become a stronger person." Diana offered SIGINT the data drive. "Anya wanted you to have this. What for, I don't know, but you're the most qualified person alive to find out. Whatever it leads to, follow that path in Anya's memory."

With nothing left to say, Diana exited the room, leaving SIGINT to her thoughts.
Kobasratha shook the offered hand, and replied "My name is Kola. I'm here for academic purposes with my colleague, Mallen Jex. We're headed for Doch Mol, an old dwarven ruin in the wastes, and this is our last stop before we plan to arrive there. The first time, though, we faced danger. Undead, mostly. Nothing we couldn't either defeat or avoid, but it meant that we couldn't get very far into the ruins, which is why we're back. It made sense to visit the oracle, and if we got a bad reading, perhaps hire some bodyguards to ensure things go more smoothly this time. In fact, you seem like you know how to swing a sword. If you're not busy, and if you're willing to do that kind of work, perhaps you could help us out."

Kobasratha had learned from centuries of experience how to lie convincingly, though a large part of what he had said was true, just true for Kola and Mallen rather than himself. The only difficulty was the aura that demons, especially relatively powerful ones like himself, emanated. While the untrained might dismiss this feeling, those accustomed to its effects could catch on very quickly, though it would be difficult to blame an attempt on Kobasratha's life on "a funny feeling" if they couldn't prove his species. In any case, a contingent of bodyguards would definitely be useful in dealing with the undead residing in Doch Mol, though Kobasratha would have to find a way to get to Karnarouri first, and resurrect him in secret. With so many creatures present, it didn't seem too difficult.
@parrotcarrot Sorry, but by the looks of things you're a little late. Most recent post was nearly half a year ago.
@Dark Light So now both my characters are involved in the Rzail storyline, but even better than that, they're (presumably) on opposite sides. Something's gonna go down at Doch Mol.
Whoops, forgot to alert the mods when I posted this.
@Circ @Rilla @Zyamasiel
@Dark Light I was actually waiting for you to post. Didn't want to leave Anya behind to get shot, lol.
@Pyromaniacwolf I'd just mention more mods.
Name: Depth
Titles: The Omega Wave

Tier/influence: 3 - Though Depth could technically become infinitely powerful, for practical reasons this will never happen. What she has already is not to be ignored, however, and even her mundane capacities are notable.

Groups: None currently.

Height: 5'5"
Weight: 113 lbs (each)
Age: 24 (original body)
Race: Human - Well, sort of. Depth is a hive-mind-like conscience caused by a recently discovered form of brain wave, "The Omega Wave". This brainwave can only be created by those with a rare gene (named the Parell allele, after Richard Parell, who discovered it. In this case, "rare" means about one person in a billion) that is otherwise dormant, and even then there are other requirements to stimulate the brain into the near-meditative state that joins it with Depth. After a few hours in this state, the process is complete and the subject's mind becomes a part of Depth's. It should also be mentioned that during these few hours, the subject's body changes to become identical to the others that already make up Depth, absorbing nearby biomass if the current body does not naturally have enough.
Appearance: Each part of Depth is biologically female (the reason she uses feminine pronouns for herself), and a human, or anyone versed in human races, would assume they are of Asian origin, if they didn't already know the truth about their creation. They have brown eyes, are somewhat short, and have long, straight, black hair usually worn loose.

Personality: Due to Depth's unusual circumstances, her personality is equally unusual. She has difficulty empathising with normal human beings, and follows a set of morals quite different from them. She considers order to be important, but she beleives herself most fit to be in charge. She doesn't care much for high concepts, nor does she beleive life to be sacred. It comes, it goes. As such, people can be very easily unnerved by Depth. You're never completely certain what'll piss her off, and when you do, she might kill you for it.
Depth is generally very calm, and more likely to rely on logic than emotion. What fear she feels she ignores, preferring to make a decision on whether or not to flee based on the most likely outcomes and the results of each. She rarely shows emotion, though she is not emotionless, she is simply reserved. She can also go for huge amounts of time without human interaction, she has five of herself as it is.

Abilities, Talents, Traits and Powers
  • (3)Assimilation: Depth can forcefully assimilate anyone born with the Parell allele, effectively creating another of her. As described above, they gain her appearance and share her thoughts. Their personality and memories are destroyed, but their mental processing power is added to Depth's.
  • (2)Surge: When someone is assimilated into Depth, they are cured of almost all biological problems they may face, due to a genetic surge occuring as they are assimilated. They may be infected at any point after this, but they do not suffer from aging.
  • (3)Hive Mind: All bodies share a single consciousness. They are not governed individually, and all senses are percieved at once. If one dies, even the original body, the rest do not suffer besides a loss in processing power.
  • (3)Superhuman Processing: Depth can think and react much faster than a typical human, having access to five minds, and has excellent memory of events where multiple bodies were present. Additionally, all skills that the minds had before assimilation may be accessed by each part of Depth.
      Current bodies/skills:
    • Original body: Aside from her genetics, the original body wasn't particularly unique. Studied genetics at university, allowing Depth to understand how and why she is how she us.
    • Two test subjects: These were other generic human beings that were kidnapped in order to test the effects of Depth's abilities. No unique skills.
    • A soldier: One of the guards assigned to prevent Depth from escaping between tests. Depth has proficiency in gunfighting and modern combat from him.
    • A black market dealer: Someone moderately successful at their job, moving illegal merchandise wherever people would pay for it. From her, Depth has knowledge of how to pilot mid-sized spacecraft, and get just the right price for guns, drugs and whatever else people shouldn't have.
  • (2)Deeper Sight:Depth can find people with the Parell allele. She simply feels "drawn" to people with the gene, and can instantly recognise that they have it upon seeing them.

Items
  • (2)Mid-range ballistic weaponry: Nothing too fancy, but definitely reliable for keeping someone alive. Sub-machine guns and pistols, enough for each part of Depth.
  • (3)Smuggler's ship: No guns whatsoever, and only lightly armoured, but it's fast and quiet. Good for its job.
  • (1)Contraband: All sorts of illegal goodies, but unfortunately not of much use unless you're not already armed, and even then you won't be that happy.

History: A little over a year ago, the Parell allele was discovered by a Frixion Prime-based bioengineering company. Unsurprisingly, they wanted to make money out of it, so they decided to test the allele, to recognise its capabilities. To this end, they kidnapped a young woman they knew to have it (she had been studying genetics at a university at the time. It wasn't too hard to get records of her genetics), and after a lot of work, they managed to induce the Omega Wave, creating Depth.
When they discovered Depth's abilities, they realised they had made a mistake. They had made themselves the enemy of something potentially very powerful, but couldn't go to anyone for help without their crime being discovered. They intended to hold Depth captive, potentially indefinitely.
An incredible stroke of luck prevented this, however, when Depth discovered that one of the guards keeping Depth contained had the Parell allele. On a night shift, she managed to assimilate him, unlock her door and escape. Since then she's been lying low, getting off the planet when she found a fifth carrier of the gene. She now means to build up her wealth and influence throughout the galaxy.
