August, 2033 - Kuzminki Station 'Lone'
'The Moscow Metro was built to survive a nuclear war. But built to last...? No. It doesn't seem that way. Whatever debris that once held the surface creatures out of our tunnels must not be there anymore. Maybe there never was a barricade, and they just got bolder over time. Who knows - who cares? - no one has returned from journeying to the end of our line... Similarly, bandits dwell at the station behind us, cutting us off from the rest of the civilized metro. We're trapped. People are dying, supplies are going to run out fast at this rate. It's pretty fitting that this was called Lone Station by traders once... But at least before the bandits and the mutants came we felt independent and strong because of it. Now, we have to crawl elsewhere. Anywhere. Beg if we have to, just so long as we survive.'

Aaaand in that case, I guess I should throw up the actual RP thread later on tonight/early tomorrow!
We'd likely go along with the game-style plot, just for the sake that more people have played that than read the book. Like Shadow said, we can all see the same kind of world/environment from having played the role of Artyom. But of course, the games can't be seen as too realistic. Follow the games -> detail what they might not have in the way we RP it.
Well, we have four players so far. Think we should start?
Remember the war happened in 2013. Is it 2013? Your character would have plenty of time to blend into post-apocalyptic Russian society! xD Maybe if they were a kid at the time, they've been brought up knowing the language and everything.
He's right, there were many non-Russians that fled to the metro. Some discriminate against them (Neo Nazis being the most obvious), others accept them as human beings and cooperate as such.
I'm wondering if America and Russia fought each other in the nuclear exchange or were at war. If they did, or if the countries were in tension, your character would probably have to hide the fact that he/she is actually American - but that shouldn't be a problem in a predominately Russian-speaking metro if they learned the language. Wouldn't have to keep it from all people of course - some Metro residents are all about peace. Others with narrower minds, not so much!
That's the only thing I could see wrong with the tourist, but if anything that might make things more interesting... ;D

A journey through the ghostly tunnels.
With a home under constant threat and attack from outsiders, be it cunning bandits or vicious mutants, the last remaining residents of a beaten station decide it time to abandon their home and find somewhere safer to settle, deeper within the metro. But the tunnels are not so easily traversed. Between the mysterious phenomena and the living obstacles they face, is there any hope of making it through the barren world of post-apocalyptic Moscow alive?
