Ixa's time was running out and so he retreated away from the village and into the wilderness. He took a meticulous and convoluted path with the intention to throw off any troops who might have been sent to take down any feeling stragglers. He wondered how thorough they'd be in chasing after them. He considered diving into one of the rhododendron hells further out, but that presented its own set of challenges. Sure going into that labyrinth of dense gnarled branches would make it difficult for anyone to give pursuit, but it would also be very slow to move through while burdened with these satchels. Also there was that issue of time time going back to find other survivors.
Instead he chose to keep going deeper into the woods and taking winding turns through denser vegetation. Eventually he came to a place overlooking the academy and sat down to wait. Plumes of white smoke came from a thin metallic looking pipe resting on his fingertips.
At last the academy was seeming empty and nothing more than a burnt out husk devoid of any life. It was time to go find others without worry of attack. Ashes floated to earth as he emptied the pipe before started walking back.
