Roads in the US always seemed endless to Ethan, the country was so massive compared to England. The thoughts of home led him to his family and whether this infection was worldwide or just in the US. All he wanted to know was whether his family was still alive but it was too hard to think about. That question would not be able to be answered for a long time if it ever could be answered.
The last sign Ethan had passed said the next exit off the highway was Ramona. Ethan had heard people mention the place but had no idea about what was there. He hoped that there might be some supplies in the town or maybe even people. No one had crossed his pass since the attack and that had been a few days now. Only the odd herd of walkers roaming about.
As soon as he pulled off the exit, the car started to make a rumbling noise and the engine completely cut off.
"No, no, no, no, no, no!" Ethan smacked the steering wheel and then chucked his head in his hands in frustration as the car slowly rolled down the road. Ruffling up his hair he stared straight down the road thinking about what to do next. A sigh left his lips as he dragged himself out of the car, taking the keys in case someone could fix it, and grabbed his rucksack from the boot and chucked it on, his weapons dangling from the bag. There was a cool wind in the air as Ethan lazily strolled down the road wondering what he was going to run into. Another road sign said "Ramona - 1 mile."
It only took around fifteen minutes for Ethan to actually start seeing buildings, even with his lazy walk, he still had a long stride. There was a building in the distance that didn't really seem to fit with the southern part of California. It was higher than most of the other buildings and had fences all around it. There seemed to be people dotted about, but from the distance Ethan couldn't really tell what they looked like.
"A pair of binoculars would come in handy right about now... Well lets just hope they're not cannibals..." He said to himself as he clenched his knuckle duster in his coat pocket and walked towards the gate.
