It's really hard to get involved when no one else is really involved which makes people less involved and cue vicious cycle.

I'm really tired so sorry that this isn't the best response, but I'll try my best.

Under the Empire a large amount of Tamriel was bound by one power that ruled everyone. They all answered to the empire and the empire did a decent enough job controlling all of the provinces. When the Thalmor came they completely destroyed the Empire's claim to all of it's regions. Skyrim went into rebellion, Hammerfell broke off, the Empire lost the capital for a short time, the blades were exterminated and the Empire could do nothing to help Morrowind.

The Dunmer are now homeless vagrants, the Empire is in shambles, Hammerfell has left, Skyrim is in rebellion, and this is all with the promise that the Thalmor, at any moment, are going to come crashing back down upon the provinces to kil countless more.

They bring order in the manner that they kill a lot of people, but otherwise, they're creating a world crisis.
I just don't really trust anyone :/

I'll go back and analyze it again.

I don't really like them, more as I'm really intrested in them.My theory sums it up. Without going to far into it, I relate Jyggalag's release from bondage (look him up if you have not played the Shivering Isles DLC), to the rise of the Thalmor. They represent an ultimate order in the Tamriel, and I can sense the Daedric Prince's hand in this.

I would say the Thalmor represent ultimate Chaos in Tamriel and the Empire represents order, if anything.
If the next Elder Scrolls games takes place in a Tamriel dominated by the Thalmor, it better be about fucking their shit up.

Just a guess at some possibilities:Squee's exact definitions may vary. This post is quite a doozy. I may have to read it several times more to absorb it all.
