Rayla: That was fast.

Tiane: I don't have much to take with me anyway.

Rayla: Is that so?

Tiane: Just came here to say good night. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day, so rest well.

Rayla: The same applies to you...Oh well, good night then...

Tiane: See you tomorrow partner!

As Tiane left for her room, Rayla decided to play some notes on the guitar, despite there not being much of a breeze in the room.


Rayla: (Heh...I'm finally noticing a change within her.)

For once, the song wasn't the Hymm of Proof, but just a common song she memorized while learning how to play her guitar.


Rayla: (So I'm starting to finally move on...)

She kept playing for a while until she decided to sleep.

Yurei Seimei Mansion - Ted's Room


Ted: **yawn**

Kaori: Want to stop here?

Ted: Yeah...I just hope cousin Hina does something that makes the spirits not bother us for another day...but I guess this won't happen again...

Kaori: That happened before?

Ted: Yeah. I had a nice night of sleep that day. It's really something else.

Kaori: I can imagine...

Ted picked up two blankets and gave one to Kaori, then he laid on the ground and closed his eyes. A few seconds later, he felt Kaori's back touching his back.


Ted: Hm?

Kaori: Sorry...I'm a stupid scared cat...so bear with this idiot for today...

Ted: Okay...

Then, after a while, they both fell asleep.

Spring Zone - Hiagor's Office

Hiagor didn't feel like coming back to his apartment today, so he decided to sleep in his office.


Hiagor: Been a while since I had a fierce fight...Even though I didn't go all out...At least I was trying to go full speed...But that alone doesn't seem to be enough. I better step up my game next time I fight those guys...

He did some streching before going laying on the sofa without a blanket. He fell asleep a few moments later.

Summer Area Sewers - Sheila's Hideout

After some time walking, Sheila arrived at her makeshift tent.


Sheila: I'm back to this stinky home.

As she entered the tent, she took our her jacket and used it as the blanket.


Sheila: I feel like I'm going to sleep like a rock...I'm still kinda tired after that fight... (And tomorrow is going to be a busy day, so I better sleep well...)

As she imagined, not look after she closed her eyes, she fell asleep.

Kenneth: Yet another day in this world comes to an end...Once again, struggling against my vampire heritage to take control over my psyche.
It's the last obstacle for me to attain true freedom...and yet, it still feels like it's going to be a while I control it completely.

Kenneth: Maybe...If I stayed back my world...this would be faster...

Kenneth: No...I'm not coming back to a world where my path is already decided. I'll keep helping the Resistance Group...That's how I'll grow strong enough to overcome this curse...

After reinforcing his promise once more, Kenneth fell asleep.

Denise: And...it's over...Well, this one didn't amuse me that much...but it was still an okay passtime...

Despite looking bored, Denise set the book gently on the table, then streched her arms while yawning before laying on the bed.


Denise: I was told that tomorrow, I was going to help them with the investigation...Guess I'll finally be of use even though I haven't decided to join yet...

Denise: Well, better do my best and leave a good impression when tomorrow comes.

Then, Denise waited to fall asleep, thinking about how the next day was going to be an interesting experience.

Hyde sent a glare towards the person that "welcomed" him. The man was eating out loud.


Hyde: Why is he still here? He's eating like crazy...

Linne: Don't you remember? You brought him here.

???: I've yet to recharge my power. I did tell him that using the Blitz Motor makes me really hungry...

Hyde: Is this why you had to go out and buy something Linne?

Linne: That's part of it...The other part is that the only competent cook around here was busy being the hormone filled naive teenager that he is. Mr. Ektosam was in a pathetic state and this was the only thing I could think of.

Hyde: Sorry about that...

Akatsuki: It's not Ektosam...I'm Akatsuki.

Hyde: So we've finally got a name from you.

Akatsuki: It's the least I could do after you gave me shelter.

Hyde: Well, I'm partially responsable for this so this is kind of an apology...

Akatsuki: No need to worry, I'm not mad at you.

Hyde: That's good to hear...Well then, if you still want, you can stay for the night.

Akatsuki: Won't I be a burden?

Hyde: It's just for one night, no need to feel like you're weight.

Akatsuki: In that case, I'll make myself at home.

Hyde: Yeah...Man, I guess I'll heat something on the microwave for today since Linne already went for the trouble to buy them. Not in the mood to cook anything...is that okay with you Linne?

Linne: The damage is already done. No need to bother yourself with this.

Linne: I'm not...Now hurry up before you collapse from hunger like he did.

Nothing much happened for the rest of the night. Linne didn't ask anything else about what Hyde did during the day, she trusted that he wouldn't use his powers in an wrong way.

Ted was studying for a bit. Then, someone knocked on his door.


Ted: It's open...

Kaori: Ok...

Ted: Well, Himika was right, you both are almost the same size...

Kaori: She actually gave me this as a gift...Telling me she's not too fond of this kind of clothing.

Ted: Yeah...she's like that. What brings you here anyway?

Kaori: Can I stay in your room? I still don't want to be alone right now.

Ted: Hmmm...It's just for today, so why not?

Kaori: Thanks!

Kaori examines the room as she enters, noticing that it had no bed.


Kaori: Your family is very traditional.

Ted: It took me a while to get used on sleeping on the ground. It's not that bad as you imagine.

Kaori: If you say so...

She sits near Ted while still examining the room. Then, she spots a photo over the desk. It was a photograph of a young Ted with his parents and his younger sister.


Kaori: Is this your previous family?

Ted: Yeah...it's one of the things they could salvage after my house was demolished in the war.

Kaori: Only you survived?

Ted: Sadly...Yes...

Kaori: Oh...

Ted: Well...They didn't found the body of my sister in the debris...she most likely escaped, but was probably killed off somewhere else during the war.

Kaori: Why do you think that?

Ted: Because I would've found her at this point...I've searched her many times...to no avail...

Kaori: Ted...

Ted: I've come to accept this fact after searching for too long and moved on...I'm happy where I am now.

Kaori: I see...If that's how you feel, I won't say anything else on the matter. (I can see that it's painful for him to remember this.)

Ted: Yeah...

Kaori: Anyway, do you want some help with your studies? I'm quite smart right now thanks to the Glaive's Database.

Ted: That would be great. I've been having trouble with this subject in particular.

Kaori: Okay, here's what you should do...

As they were close to finish dinner, Bariand decided to speak up.

Barry: The Guild sent me a request to help them with something related to the mysterious organization.

Marilee: They did?

Barry: Yes...They had spread a rumor that someone at my school is a Psychic User. We're planning to use this as bait to lure someone from that organization.

Carlu: Won't they think this is a trap?

Barry: Most certainly. But they'll also send someone to check the validity of that rumor. Our task is to find and capture that agent as soon as possible.

Kenneth: Will Daniella and me be a part of it as well?

Barry: That's right. While you're at it, try to get Drake Celest Gold to cooperate as well. I'm sure even him can do some investigative work if it's in the school. Hiagor will have more freedom to walk around the school so make sure to ask him if he saw anything suspicious.

Kenneth: Alright.

Leoric: I'm probably asking a silly question...but does that school really have a Psychic User?

Saika: We're not sure...

Barry: I have my suspicions on one person...And I do admit we're risking this person's safety for the sake of our plan, but it's not truly confirmed that he is a Psychiccer.

Sheila: Is it someone I know?

Barry: No...He started studying in our school in this year. I've heard stories of his excellent memory and his stellar performance at his previous school...but that alone isn't enough to tell us that he has powers.

Sheila: I see. Some people are just natural born geniuses I guess...

Barry: Now then, is there anything else to report?

Carlu: Not me at the moment.

Leoric: Same here.

Barry: Then, this reunion is over. May we seet each other in the next one. May success be upon us.

After finishing their meals, they left the mansion. Vinny took Sheila back to her hideout and after that, left Kenneth in his apartment.

After gathering at the room, Kaori explained everything that has happened to her so far.


Taira: I see...Psychic Users are a formidable bunch if they can block the influence of spirits like this...

Kaori: When I really think about it...it's shocking to know they actually exist...I never had much time to react to all of this new information...

Taira: An understandable reaction...While the Ancestor Families are okay with this fact, the population might be in panic if they knew about the truth.

Ted: So...will you let her stay with us?

Taira: Only for one day...she'll most likely lose focus once she's asleep...and probably be on the same boat as you are right now.

Kaori: What does that mean?

Taira: We don't say this to everyone...but Ted here is adopted. He isn't actually from our family...which is why he's constantly assaulted by ghosts when he's here which is why he has inmsonia most of the time.

Kaori: I guess that explains everything about the whole "Lord of the Sleep" affair...

Ted: Don't remind me of that name...

Himika: The things that the uninformed can come up with...I kinda want to pound the guy who started this...

Kaori: I see...I can guess why is this important...

Ted: Well...Since everything is settled, I'll be heading to my room now...I have to study as much as possible for the tests...Himika, take Kaori to your room.

Both girls leaves the room. As Ted was preparing to leave as well, Taira called his attention.


Taira: They'll probably attack as soon as you leave this place tomorrow...Will you be willing to protect her even if she's able to fight?

Ted: ...I might as well do it...She's still quite new at this...and might need my help. I'm sure they'll send someone stronger to capture her...

Lady Crimson: More like he doesn't chase after them like you usually do...Besides, he was married once...But he lost his wife.

The man in glasses got hit by a flying chair, knocking him to the ground. The maid skillfully picked the chair that was thrown and put it gently in the floor.

Sheila: To think that I would talk with two of the most of the popular students of my school feels surreal.

Marilee: Right then...Today I...

As she said that, food had arrived. There was a variety of dishes, ranging from simple and common to more "unique" and rare, these being mostly being a trend with rich families.


Marilee: As I was saying, today I sent Sheila, Kenneth and Victor to fight the mysterious group for the first time to gauge their strenght. Vineria transmitted the whole action. May you show the footage to them.

Vinny: Right boss...but call me Vinny please...

Leoric: (What's with the low voice?)

Vinny pulled a metal plate that had a summon sigil on it. She set it on the table and after activating it, a fairly big monitor screen appeared, floating in mid-air. Then, she pulled a small remote and pressed a button, showing the footage of the assault in Sayaka's House.


Marilee: The Mysterious organization hired a local gang from the Summer Area and sent them to attack Sayaka, Lilina and Kaori's homes. Of course, they were effortless defeated, but what came after was more than a match for a guild member alone. Each group had a psychic user together with soldiers usings Compact Glaive Devices. We assume this is their first field test.

Barry: I see...They saw how the guild members fared against the local gang...then assigned different types of soldiers to react accordingly to the guild member's performance.

Marilee: During the fight at Sayaka's House, another person which we assume is also a Psychic User, managed to get a hold of her and briefly hold her hostage.

Saika: What a fool...She was his objective, yet he still took her hostage...The guards had more to earn by attacking him rather than letting him leave with her alive.

Leoric: How dare he...Making a girl suffer like that.

Vinny: And there he goes again...

Leoric: Anyway...you said briefly right? What happened next?

Sheila: A guy named Xaizor showed up and rescued Sayaka, then, after fighting the kidnapper, he managed to beat him.

Carlu: Xaizor? The name doesn't ring any bells...

Vinny: I did a bit of a background search on him...He's a new student at Fleeting Memories School, he has a sister named Marina Arcadia who entered at the same time as his. Other than that, not much is known about them other than their address.

Carlu: Arcadia...Hmmm...

Barry: No...That's not a name of any ancestor family in particular. Any info on his abilities? I mean, he did defeat a Psychic User by himself.

Vinny: Right now...we're assuming it's EXS...but I guess the only ones that can tell us from sure are In-Births themselves. Maybe that Yuzuhira girl knows more since she patrols the city in order to stop fights between In-Births, so she might know Xaizor's face.

Marilee: In that case, I'll be assigning you and Leoric to visit Yuzuhira's Shrine tomorrow.

Vinny: Roger that!

Barry: So...About that psychic aura that expanded and took shape...

Vinny: It's an ability any Common-Type Psychiccer will be able to use eventually. It does seem very resistant to damage and basically works as a second body since it can carry the user even if he's injured...I bet the Guild already knows of this ability, so they might have a counter for it already.

Marilee: Switch to the footage of the attack at Lilina's House.

Vinny: Okay, I'll skip to the part where Kail is fighting the Defense-Type Soldiers. They do seem to have a way harder armor than the ones Kenneth fought. Their main intent was to hold Kail in place while their leader, who is a Septima-Type Psychiccer, invaved Lilina's home, but as you know, Victor got in their way.

Victor: I'll take it from here. Her main element is darkness. While she did have near-perfect reaction time, she relied mostly on long-range attacks, as well as powerful shield. However, the weakness of said shield is that she can't maintain it for long regardless of the damage dealt to it. She called herself Veria. Vineria, tell them about the other newcomer. I was too busy in my own fight to notice him.

Vinny: That's VINNY!!!

Victor: Right...I apologize...

Vinny: Alright...Now then, much like on Sayaka's Home, someone mysterious also appeared at the battle in front of Lilina's house. He used something that paralyzed one of the soldiers almost immidietaly...That didn't look like something our current technology...at least not yet anyway. After he helped Kail drive away the Glaive Soldiers, I decided to approach my camera as close as possible to the window...While I've got some footage, the sound was muffed so we won't know his name so soon.

The footage showed the part where Drake and Azrel where exchanging words.


Sheila: Huh? Stop right there!

Vinny: D-Done!

Sheila: That guy...I've seen him before...

Music: Suspense


Saika: Who is him?

Sheila: Recently, a gang fell victim to the Blue Reaper.

Barry: That's a name I wasn't expecting to show up...

Sheila: I remember meeting that gang once to exchange some information, and this guy was there.

Carlu: I see where this is going...The Blue Reaper destroyed that gang, but left this one alive...which means...

Saika: We have someone that knows the Reaper's identity.

Barry: Exactly...

Marilee: While our focus right now is dealing with the mysterious organization...we can't let this sociopath to keep killing any longer. Sheila and Carlu will be charged with finding this man and...extract that information.

Carlu: Understood! I'm counting on your net of informations Sheila.

Sheila: Leave it to me! This Blue Reaper might have a valid reason to do this...but killing is still wrong.

Barry: Well said.

Marilee: No. That's it for the event at Lilina's Home. Now then, for Kaori's battle with another Psychic User who is most likely the leader of the operation.

Saika: What about the battle at her house?

Vinny: Nothing stood out other than a stronger Glaive User that had an almost even fight against Mr. Detective and of course, their Psychic User who identified herself as Nana. Other than that, nothing new. They do know that Jerry is a Psychic User.

Carlu: He'll have a harder time from now on for sure. Maybe someone will replace him as Kaori's guardian.

Vinny: Now then...I couldn't approach the camera that close as I've noticed that they also have a surveilance device, which is most likely how they has assigned different groups to different places. They would know that they were being watched.

Barry: I assume he was the leader because after his defeat, there were no more attacks...correct?

Marilee: That's right, please proceed with the report Vineria.

Vinny: Okay...But it's Vinny though...

Vinny: Anyway, After Kaori and Andorina managed to run away, they've bumped into Mia.

Judging by her taking aim at Mia for a while, what we suspected about the glaives having some sort of hypnotic brainwashing program inside of the devices is in fact true. However, it seemed to not faze Kaori, as she soon opened fire on the man after he released Andorina. As you can see, she's truly a Psychic User, due to being able to extend her aura like this.

Barry: I can see that this man is also a formidable foe. I'll revise the combat footage later on.

Vinny: Okay, I'll skip to the final part, where the guy was saved by this man.

Vinny: Well...I forgot to approach the camera after the Psychic User was defeated...so I didn't get anything from their conversation...Though I think Mia might know about it since she was there.

As the three arrived at the place, Kaori felt that it was safe enough to turn off the Compact Glaive.


Andorina: So this is Ted's place? It looks huge...But, what is this weird feeling? I feel like something is literally scratching my brain...As if my skull wasn't even there to stop it from happening...

Kaori: That's normal for anyone that approaches this place.

Andorina: Huh?

Kaori: According to the Glaive's Database, The Yurei Seimei Mansion is where spirits of the departed gather to go to the afterlife. The sensation you're feeling right now are a mix of their presence and their thought that are all concentrated in this place. Of course, members of this family learn since they are small to block off these thoughts. Even members from the branching family are able to do it, but only the main family can fully control the spirits.

Andorina: I see...

Kaori: Now that I think about it...it will be impossible for you to stay here...They won't let you enter because you're a normal person.

Andorina: But...what about you?

Kaori: I'll figure something out...I think I'll be able to block their thoughts from invading my mind.

Andorina: Hmmm...

Kaori: Mia, please, take her back to her home...It's already too dangerous for us to be together...and now that she can't enter this place, it's better if she's at home instead.

After saying goodbye, Kaori headed towards the gate and knocked on it. Then, a small window opened.

After a while, the gates opened, Ted had a look of surprise on his face when he saw Kaori.

Without saying anything, she just hugged him instead. Ted was even more confused until he heard Kaori sobbing.


Ted: Hey...

Kaori: *sob* I thought that I...that I would never be myself anymore...

Ted: ...Don't tell me...they attacked you again?

Himika: Seems like it...From what I can see, she has been bottling up all the fear and the shock that was builting up within her...Now that she's safe with us, she's letting it all out.

Ted and Himika nod at each other, then, they took Kaori to inside the mansion, both still surprised that the atmosphere of their home wasn't affecting her. Kaori didn't want to let go of Ted's arm, so he decided to stay with her while Himika rings a bell that signalled an emergency reunion.

The guards reconized the van that approached the place, so they openened the gates for them to pass without the need to wait. Vineria drove towards the parking lot in the mansion, where the rain wouldn't reach. After they left the car, they entered the mansion through the front door. Lady Crimson was waiting for them.


Lady Crimson: Good work everyone. I'm glad that you made back safe and sound.

Kenneth: Thanks. It was a hard task, but we've done our best to do our part.

Lady Crimson: The reunion won't start right now, so you are allowed to take a rest.

Sheila: Woo-hoo!

Lady Crimson: Here, I've prepared a spare set of clothes for you Sheila. You can't exactly participate in this reunion without cleaning yourself first.

Sheila: COOL!!! You rock boss! I was really needing it.

Lady Crimson: You're welcome. Alright sir, you know what to do.
Butler: Right, follow me Miss Sheila.

Sheila: Wow...I feel like a princess right now...

Lady Crimson: This is for you Kenneth.

She gave Kenneth a blood bag. Another butler that was nearby lifted his right eyebrow thanks to the sight that he deemed unusual.


Kenneth: I'll make sure to finish this before the reunion.

Vinny: Where will the reunion be?

Lady Crimson: At the dining hall. Of course, they'll serve food as well.

Vinny: I don't know...seeing where we are...shouldn't we mind our...etiquete?

Lady Crimson: No need to worry about that. Just eat like normal, just with the right amount of manners.

Vinny: Whew...that's a relief...Well, I'll be heading here right now. I'll keep myself busy by viewing the footage of the mission again. I need to pay attention to every detail possible about their weapons and skills.

Some minutes later, Sheila had finished her bath. Now, wearing the cleaner set of clothes, she was ready to head towards the reunion.


Sheila: Whew, this refreshing feel is like a blessing...I have a newfound respect for baths after this experience.

Sheila: Hihihi...There goes me being over-dramatic because of a simple bath...But I guess...there isn't really anything bad about me being silly right now...

She looked towards the window, seeing the heavy rain through it.


Sheila: Today...I used that gift again...But not to its fully extent. If I activate the glaive for real, I'll be able to use its full power...But when that happens, my true identity will be known...

Sheila: While I agree that I need to keep a secret about myself...At the same time, it pains me to know that my friends think that I've died that day...I want to tell them that I'm fine...from the bottom of my heart...but...

Sheila: But first, I've got to eliminate this dreaded organization from existence...

Noticing that her anger was rising up, Sheila took a deep breath. Then, she put her clean coat on, then headed towards the corridor, telling the butler that she was ready to go.

After she was done with dinner, Rayla gave the okay to allow everyone to get in. Moments later, the kitchen was crowed with children once more.


Reeta: Hm? Is it me, or there's a strong smell in the air?

Reeta: I know that. I was talking about something else...

Rayla: Today, I've made a dish for Tiane, and only her.
Girl: Eh? Just for her? Why we can't eat it too?

Tiane: Wow...For some reason...I feel like my mouth is on fire...but in a good way.

Rayla: I see. I've added some really strong spices to this recipe in order to maximaze the taste. I did some thinking that since you can still see and hear with the proper equipment, then maybe, you can still taste food If I use the right ingredients.

Tiane: Rayla...You...

Reeta: Whoa! Wait a minute, Tiane, you can't taste food either? I knew about the hearing because everyone can see the aid in your ear, but this too?

Tiane: Well...Yeah...I just didn't feel like it wasn't necessary to mention it...

Due to the heavy rain, Vinny had to drive with more caution. Sheila stared at it through the window, thinking about the events that ocurred not long ago. She had her hood down since the windows were dark enough to hide her face from outside eyes.


Sheila: Sigh...

Kenneth: I saw that he actually landed some hits on you. Are you okay?

Sheila: It wasn't anything major...

Vinny: Still, that form of his intrigues me. I heard that theorically, any Common-Type Psychiccers can extend their aura like that. It's he ultimate mix of offense and defense.

Sheila: That will certainly be a problem...Is there a way around it?

Vinny: Not that I've heard of...maybe just use something with equal or bigger strenght? I'm not sure...Maybe your Time Slow can do the trick?

Sheila: Will it work though?

Sheila pulls something from her coat and looks at it. It was an older version of the compact glaive device.


Sheila: Thanks to that voice's blessing...I'm able to increase my strenght, as well as manipulate time to an extent...

Vinny: I know that already....Still makes me wonder how this time slow happens...

Kenneth: I could try my full powers as well...but let's save that as a last resort...I don't want to go berserk on my friends.

Sheila: Maybe Daniella can do something about these auras with her ultimate move.

The trio seemed to know the identity of Lyna, but decided not to say her true name out loud even when they were by themselves, much like how Sheila and Daniella keeps their true names a secret.

Vinny: Luckly enough, they enemy lost two of their numbers. One you already know and the other was at Lilina's residence. It was all thanks to Victor.

After saying goodbye to Daniella, Sheila and Kenneth entered Vineria's trailer, which was really just a regular looking camper van. After she finished putting her equipement at the back of the vehicle, she started driving.


Kenneth: I've heard that you need to reach a certain age to be allowed to drive...how old are you Miss Vineria?

Vinny: I've told you many times to call me Vinny!!!

Sheila: I want to know as well...

Vinny: I'm 16, but I got special permission to drive this little guy.

Sheila: Impressive.

Vinny: Though, I might lose it once my superiors find out I'm working with rebels...So I'm certain that I won't be keeping this for long.

She fires another laser beam, but Werhan dodges it, firing back at Kaori, who does another leap to stay away from his line of fire.


Kaori: (He can see where I'll be next, but he can't move at the same speed as I do...maybe I can use this to my advantage.)

Andorina: Urgh...

Kaori: Are you okay?

Andorina: D-Don't mind me...Just keep going.
Kaori: (I wonder if I can be faster if I'm not carrying Andorina...but that would be too risky. He might target her again...And if I take some distance to put her in a safe place, he might target Mia.)

Werhan: You can only go so far with that jump. Even if you know how to use your powers now, you're still a rookie.

This time, he fires with only one gun, Kaori retaliates with a laser beam that destroys the bullets, but foresees another barrage from the other gun and immidietaly turns the beam off and does another leap.


Kaori: Tch...

Werhan: Now you're there!

Kaori: Ha!

Kaori fired a bullet instead of a beam this time. It extended her psychic aura foward, making it look like a whip. The aura knocked Werhan's bullets away, but he still dodged it as well as the incoming "whip" strike.


Werhan: It's no use. I've seen this trick before with many others like you.

Kaori: (He's internally calling me a rookie again.)

Andorina: (I don't think I can take another sudden leap like that...Maybe if I was in a better condition...)

Andorina had a flashback from where she got beat up by Sorano. It wasn't something she wanted to remember while in the middle of a tense situation.


Andorina: (Maybe...I'll just weight Kaori down if I keep clinging to her like this. Next time she's going to make the jump, I'm releasing my grip.)

Werhan: (I feel that I'm close to hitting her...Good, I can still do it.) Hyaaaa!!!

Kaori: Here comes another one.

Kaori leaped away from a barrage of bullets again, but then, she felt Andorina release her grip. Andorina fell and rolled on the ground when she landed.


Kaori: Andorina!

Werhan: There's my golden opportunity!

Kaori: (He's going to shoot her...)

Andorina: DON'T MIND ME! JUST ATTACK HIM!!! YOU'RE FASTER NOW!

Kaori: (That's right...with the extra speed...I might be able to outrun his reaction time...)

Kaori: (The way I am now...I can do it!)

Even though she wanted to shield Andorina from more bullet fire, she had to save her the hard way instead. Kaori used her psychic aura once again to close the distance between her and Werhan, getting right in front of him.


Werhan: What?

Kaori: You're mine!

Werhan hesitated, not wanting to accidentaly hit one of Kaori's vitals with bullets, instead, he attacked with his psychic aura. Kaori jumped over it and fired another laser beam at Werhan.


Werhan: (Fool, if you jump, you're easy pickings!)

Kaori: (This is it!)

He side-stepped away from the beam, Kaori used his aura as a stepping stone for another high-speed leap, this time, to hide behind the cloud of the dust that the laser lifted.


Werhan: (I heard a landing sound.) I know you're there. It's no use trying to get to my blind spot.

Kaori: (I see, so if I use my Speed Step over his aura, I won't make any sound. Maybe I can mask the noise I make based on that.)

Meanwhile, Andorina had found a safe place to hide, Kaori could now completely focus on the fight.


Werhan: I have to admit...you're adapting pretty quick to this.

Kaori: It's kind of tiring though...While I can use my powers just fine, my body wasn't trained physically for them. I'm sure you're praying for me to get fatigued.

Werhan: That would take a while...Hiagor Marlek might be here at any moment.

Kaori: In any case, I swear that I'll defeat you before fatigue takes over.

Werhan: I want to see you try!

Werhan started firing at Kaori once more. She knew at this point that he would just aim to incapacitate her, which influenced on how she dodged his attacks, getting closer and closer to him. When she got close enough, Werhan attacked with the bayonets of his guns, she started to dodge them. Then, instead of dodging, she decided to get in harm's way as much as possible by position her neck in the trajectory of his attack, forcing Werhan to stop mid-way everytime she did. Kaori took those opening and used the stock of her rifle to get some hits in.


Werhan: Urgh...Risking your neck to get a hit in...Are you not afraid of death?

Kaori: Are you that afraid of killing me? I know you won't do it.

Werhan: Dammit...

Kaori: I appreciate your concern for my well being...I really do. (But how about using something that isn't so lethal.

Werhan then, fired another psychic blast, which is what Kaori was waiting for. She used her speed step to leap to his right side.


Werhan: There!

Kaori: (It's all or nothing!)

Then, as fast as she could, Kaori leaped towards the psychic aura before he could retract it. Werhan was confused that he didn't hear a landing sound after she vanished from sight. Then, when his danger sense alerted him of another incoming laser beam, it was too late and he finally got hit with a strong attack.


Werhan: GAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Kaori: I'm not done yet! Speed Step - MAXIMUM BLITZ!!!

Kaori then, started to speed step around Werhan, firing laser beams from many directions, each succesfully hitting him. He fell on the ground, struggling to get up from the intense pain.


Werhan: No...It's...not over yet...ARGH...

Kaori: Huff...Huff...Huff...I was the one that incapacitated you...Victory is mine...

Andorina: Wow...That was amazing! Kaori, you were great.

Kaori: That was really tiring though...maybe I will need trainning...but for something else-

Then, Kaori heard something that could be described as eletricity coming at her. She picked Andorina and dodged the incoming projectile.


Werhan: What?

Kaori: Who are you?

Music: Hatred


???: Seems like your plans just went down the shitter, Werhan Romeo.

Werhan: Y-You're...Adler.

The man named Adler approached the group. Kaori deduced that he was here to help Werhan out, so she decided to fire at Adler with another laser beam, but then, the mysterious man blocked the beam instead.


Kaori: Eh?

Andorina: No way...

Adler: Pipe down you brat, I'm not here for you. I'm here for him.

Werhan: What do you mean?

Adler helped Werhan to get up. Kaori kept aiming at them.


Werhan: Did the organization send you to rescue me? I'm sorry, but I'm not going back without at least of these Psychic Users.

Adler: Nope, I'm here on my own...Still, you really have some guts to say that when you're not in condition to fight anymore. If that kid can get good by just absorbing information, then someone like you might be useful to me. Come with me if you want another chance at them, I have just the thing that might boost your potential.

Werhan: (So he was never on the organization's side...Does Murakumo knows about this? Only one way to find out.) ...Fine...but I'm not doing this because I want to join your little coup.

Adler: Good boy...That's what I like to hear. Now then, let's get out before that shrew over there might start firing at us again if we don't move.

Then, a car approached the two, standing between them and Kaori. Adler and Werhan entered the car and then, the vehicle took off. Kaori sat on the ground, relieved that the battle was over.

Kail: (So she knew all along...I can guess that had she told us that, she would be under protection at the guild.) Well, if I were to take a guess, I would say that Lilina can predict that something can happen moments before it has the chance to happen...Something like a future vision. I've heard the other babbling about how Psychic Users can easily use their senses more effectively, including intuition, so I guess it has something to do with that.

Rosa: Well, we're always accepting more people. Having Xaizor there surely would be great addition. Besides, since we're kinda split into protecting you, Lilina and Kaori, we're kinda short on people to patrol the city.

Andorina kept screaming in protest, but Kaori pretended not to listen to them, picking up the Compact Glaive Device out of the group.

She pressed the button, and a voice came out of it.

Device: Compat Glaive Activated! Bio-Signature Assimilated! Codename: Opal Sniper - ONLINE!

All of a sudden, Kaori felt an unbearable painful sensation in her hand, which quickly spreaded throught her body. She also felt her head getting heavy, being overloaded with information. Not only that, but as Werhan stated, it would also attempt to brainwash her. Kaori could feel her conciousness fading away.


Kaori: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Suddenly, the last image that came out on her mind, was that of Azura. Kaori found it strange that someone she met only once would be the last thing she saw instead of something important to her.


Kaori: (Or maybe...)

**music stops**

Then, she fell on the ground after the pain was gone. Now wearing something that looked like a combat uniform, something way different from the heavy armored soldiers from before.. As Werhan promised, he released Andorina, but didn't order the thugs to release Mia. Out of despair, Andorina ran straight at Kaori.


Andoria: Kaori! Kaori! Answer me!

She saw her friend slowly getting up, looking both sides, as if assessing her surroundings.


Kaori: ...

Werhan: She doesn't respond to her friend huh? Then it means the brainwashing worked!

Andorina: Are you happy now? Release Mia this moment.

Werhan: Now, normally I would comply, but I happened to slip my actual name out instead of using my codename...that could be a problem if the guild take notice of this...so I'll have Kaori killing both of you...starting with Officer Mia. (Who am I kidding? I would just pull the same thing that happened with that family...what were their names...Getsuki? Yes, we would do it anyway just because they saw my face.)

Then, Kaori summoned a sniper rifle at Werhan's orders, Andorina stood between Mia and Kaori.


Andorina: Kaori! Don't!!!

Werhan: Ah, so you want to die together with your friend. That's so sweet of you...A true display of affection. It saddens me that it came to this...and it is my fault.

Andorina: Shut up! I know that you don't care at all.

Werhan: Well now...seems like my excitement is what slipped up this time...Oh well, alright Kaori, put an end to them so that we can go home...Mr. Detective might be here at any mmoment.

Andorina closed her eyes, praying that Hiagor came in the nick of time like he did when he protected them from Nana. Refusing to give up hope when there was none. Werhan turned his back while trying to hold a laugh, satisfied with the results.


Werhan: (After so many failures, it was my expertise that finally led us to victory.)

Kaori: Firing upon the target...

Andorina: *gulp*

Kaori pressed the trigger, Werhan expected a scream of pain.


Werhan: !!!

But his sense of danger alerted him to an upcoming laser beam. He didn't had time to dodge so he haphazardly put up a protective psychic barrier, but it didn't reduce the damage that much, being thrown violently at a all by the impact of the beam.

Music: LOST GARDEN


Andorina: Eh? I'm not dead?

Kaori: Of course not. I would never harm you Andorina.

Andorina: W-Was this me? Did I snap you out of it?

Kaori: Not really...I managed to resist the brainwashing.

Werhan: **cough** H-How? How did a rookie Psychic User managed to override it?

Kaori: I'm guessing...it's because my friends made me aware of my psychic powers. I was more prepared to resist the brainwashing since I had a little bit of time to get used to my powers. I really do owe them.

Werhan: Dammit...

Kaori: (Also...seeing Azura at that moment made me remember that I could possibily be fighting alongside them...I guess this was the best time as ever to accept the Brand...Even if I'm still not prepared to hurt people...I have to if I want to protect the ones I care about.) I should also thanking you for giving me this device. I didn't had to go an extra mile to learn this powers.

Werhan: Oh no...I've come so far...I've had everything planned...It was flawless. I saw it working in front of me! I'm not letting you escape! I'll die trying if I have to...but my plan WILL work!

Kaori: (So that's how despair sounds...it's oddly satisfying hearing it from someone that wanted to harm you...And I feel sorry for feeling like that.) Yet, I have to take him down. Andorina, hide behind me, I won't let anyone go near you. Mia, you know what to do.

Suddenly, Kaori felt a chill on the left side of her body, as if warning that danger was coming from that direction. She turned her head to the left and saw a big aura hand coming towards her and Andorina.


Kaori: Watch out!!!

She pushed Andorina away and jumped out of the hand's trajectory.


???: Fool! That's exactly what I wanted you to do.

Kaori: !!!

Suddenly, she saw another hand heading towards Andorina.


Andorina: Ah...

???: Got you!

Then, she was pinned to a wall by the aura hand. The owner of said aura let himself being pulled towards Andorina, picking her up and pointing a gun towards her head.


Kaori: You...Take your hands off her! She has nothing to do with this.

???: I'm not like a certain man who uses the target as bait...instead, we have to use someone related to the target instead, they do have more value as hostages after all. Oh, don't even think about firing that gun...I'm way more experienced with you in using psychic abilities.

Kaori: ... (Does this means that he can predict where I'll shoot? A bullet fast like that?)

Andorina: Don't listen to him Kaori...shoot!

Kaori: But...

Werhan: Yes, don't listen to good old Werhan! Go ahead and shoot, but you'll be surprised on who you'll be actually hitting.

Kaori: (I can't take this risk...) ...You win...

Kaori puts the gun in the ground.


Andorina: No...

Miolina: I think I've finally managed to lure one with my scent. Voids really love the smell EXS you see.

Suddenly, Miolina produces a black sphere and gives it to Pairah.


Pairah: What am I doing with this?

Miolina: Just hold that for me, I'll go hide over there.

Pairah: Hide? Hey, are you planning to leave me here?

Miolina: Pah!

Miolina claps her hands, making the sphere disperse into a mist that blinded Pairah.


Pairah: Wait! Don't run!

Pairah forced herself to stand, the mist expanding further an further, making it look like the light as being taken over by the darkness. The girl looked at every direction, feeling like she was in a completely different place. The buildings weren't visible anymore, the sky was slowly getting darker.


Pairah: W-What the hell did you do?

Miolina: Me? Nothing much...It's just that the Voids are attracted to EXS...and they can only manifest themselves when there's a large amount of it around.

Pairah: And...what happens after that?

Miolina: Hehehehehe...

Pairah: T-This isn't funny...say something already?

Miolina: And there he is! Have fun with your new friend!

Suddenly, a creature materialized in front of Pairah. A bipedal Void monster that was taller than Pairah. Her emotions were a mix of anger and worry. She didn't knew what to do and Miolina just let out some ocasional laughs at the creature approached.


Miolina: (Now then...will you perish and turn into a Void? Or will you survive and turn into an In-Birth?)

Pairah: D-Don't come...I'm warning you damn freak of nature.

Void: ...

Pairah: GET AWAY!!!

Even if her body screamed in protest, Pairah put all of her strenght in a punch that didn't seem like it fazed the void much. Then, it violently picked her up and slammed her in the ground.


Pairah: AAAHHH!!!

Void: SHAAAAAAA!!!

The creatured opened its mouth and bit her torso. Not only she was in intense pain, but her vision went into a complete blurr and her sense of proprioception was gone. Pairah felt that if it wanted, the monster would've just had split her body apart. What it wanted was the EXS inside of her. She did feel something escaping her body within each seconds. However, she was also feeling something inside of her changing. But none of that mattered to Pairah. All that was on her mind right now was anger towards Miolina.


Pairah: (That...wench...She kept babling something about power...but all I'm getting was a monster making me his meal...I won't accept this...I can't accept this...once I'm out of this situation...I'll...)

Music: The Lord of a Flame


Pairah: I'LL FREAKING KILL THAT PIG FOR MAKING A FOOL OUT OF ME!!!

Miolina: Oh?

Suddenly, the monster backed away in recoil. One could see smoke coming out of its mouth, as if something burned it. Pairah slowly got up, once again, ignoring the pain in her body. She could feel an extreme heat from inside of her, but didn't seem bothered by it, as if said heat was one with her entire being, a part of her existence.


Pairah: I see...So this is it...The power she talked about.

Miolina: Such intense heat. Those flames could just instantly incinerate anyone she glared at.

Void: SHAAAAAAA!!!

Pairah: You want some of this? Then EAT IT YOU FREAK!!!

Since she still didn't knew how to properly control her powers, Pairah punched the air, hoping something would come out of her hand. The Void did flinch a bit after she did so, but it kept running at her.


Pairah: Tch...

Miolina: Alright, time for some coaching.

Miolina got between Pairah and the Void, kicking the monster away with a EXS charged strike.


Miolina: Now you an I are the same.

Pairah: Why didn't you tell me this would've happened if the damn thing almost ate me?

Miolina: It's more exciting this way...Besides, it was your anger towards me that generated enough willpower to resist being turned into a void.

Pairah: Huh?

Miolina: I'll promise that I'll tell you everything in detail later...even if you don't exactly get all of it. Now then...for that coaching.

The monster got up again, heading straight towards Miolina and Pairah.


Miolina: Just imagine a fireball and direct those thoughts towards the space you want it to appear. You know the rest.

Pairah: Really? It's just that?

Miolina: This is a really simplified method for faster results. Mastering EXS isn't exactly "just that". Now then...the stage is all yours.

Pairah: Alright...

Miolina walked behind Pairah, wanting to see the newborn In-Birth up close. Pairah glared at the creature, imagining the fireball in her hand. I almost an instant, she could see if forming in her hand, albeit a little unstable, but she was okay with it for now.


Pairah: This time...you're going down.

Once it jumped towards her, she launched a fireball towards the creature. It was a clean hit, the creature fell into the ground, flames covering its upper body. It kept struggling to get up.


Pairah: HUFF...HUFF...

Miolina: Great! You were fantastic! That was a certainly great display of spirit. I think I'm going to tear up with such magnificense...

Pairah: Shut up...

Miolina: Well now...it's time to end the show. It doesn't look like you'll be able to conjure another one of those, it would be too much unstable to even travel a single meter.

Music: Memories of the Abyss

Miolina dispelled the mist. Pairah saw the Void Monster fade away. The afternoon sunlight bathed the place they were once more. Suddenly, Pairah felt her body numb, falling on the ground, this time, her conscience slowly fading away.


Pairah: Gah...

Miolina: Don't worry, that's normal. Usually, you were supposed only to faint after you got bitten by a void, but I trusted that you would get the job done.

Pairah: ...

Miolina: Well now...She didn't actually tell me where her home was...oh well, I'll take her to mine for today.

She easily picked up the sleeping Pairah off the ground and jumped from building to building, heading towards the exit.


Miolina: Let's see...You possess the wrath of a ferocious beast after its prey...Maybe we should call your ability "EXS of the Rogue Feral Inferno". Yeah, I guess that's a good name for your power. The girl who wanted to reach the top...denied of her glory by a single failure, now being in possession of the power that will make her desires true.

Pairah: (Now...no one...can stop me...not my former boss...Not the Holy Hammer...NO ONE!!! I can hardly wait to crush them all...)

Sheila: Hi Xaizor! You were really a hero back there.

Rosa: Hehe...that he was.

Kenneth: A splendid performance indeed.

Sheila: Rosa, can we leave the rest to you?

Rosa: Sure, but why are you asking me this?

Sheila: I would love to stay longer but...

Rosa: Hm? What's with this smell?

Sheila: (Took a while for someone to notice my stench.) We have to go. Maybe another time. You can give Sayaka Kenneth's phone number if she want to call us again...right Kenneth?

Sheila leaves first, Kenneth shares the number with Rosa, then leaves soon after, but not after bowing to Rosa and Xaizor.

Victor walks away. Kail nods and then, enters Lilina's house, but not before telling the officers to tie Veria up.

Daniella was carrying two cups, one of coffee, and another one of tea. She also had a book under her arm, a different one than what she was reading earlier. She handed the cup of coffee to the other person who was in the rooftop. Said person was looking at a laptop.


Daniella: Alright Miss Orston...Here's your coffee...Did I miss something while I was out?

Vinny: Just call me Vinny already...No need to be so formal...And yes, She used her "Time Slow". Twice in fact.

Daniella: That means I missed the entire fight...

Vinny: No matter how many times I look at it. It really doesn't seem like an ability of this world. At least, not right now...what with all of these new powers showing up?
