Wait a minute.
So the 8 is what you, the GM and die roller, add to the roll in order to determine if you pass the roll DL or not.
I understand it more now, thank you. Now to edit my CS...

Speaking of Talents, I've always been a bit confused by the connection between Talents and Stats.
If I may use Fiore as an example:

Animal Handling (Cha): (Rank 1 + 5 Cha + 2 Other) = 8

I understand that he is a Rank 1 in Animal Handling, and I also understand that he gets a +2 bonus toward Animal Handling Rolls thanks to his "Animal Magnetism" Trait, but...
What does the number 8 represent? Is it overall skill level? Roll bonus?
Why is the Charisma score added in? I thought Talents and Stats had their own separate, respective Rolls.
My ignorance knows no bounds!

Might I ask, about currency:

One Gilm (Gold Coin) is ten iL (Silver Coins), correct? Then, one iL must be ten Talms (Bronze Coins) and one hundred Talms makes one Gilm, or am I mistaken?
There's no real reason. I'm just a little curious.
