Will 'o the Piper

To Charles' eyes, everything went white. The darkness of the night drowned out of his eyes, the cold vanished and only the mysterious song remained. He would not even feel his own body moving, or taste the air he breathed. There was just the music; one that slowly but surely would become more recognisable. A soft hum slowly rose to a singing voice, the voice of people he had loved, soft and comforting. The music was almost tangible; as every note washed off one of Charles' negative emotion like a soft stream of water. First his anger, then his sadness, even his loneliness as it was as if the song itself embraced him. His body felt comfortably warm, a breeze played with his hair and the air tasted of his mother's cooking, while pleasant memories played out before his eyes.

Meanwhile to Sigmund's eyes, Charles' call had managed to strip more children from their trance. Bewildered they looked around, although few small ones still attempted to reach for the source of the music; just like Charles. Eidren, in spite of his earlier disagreement with Charles, promised Sigmund he would follow the telepath while Sigmund would do his best to save the children. However, Kurotori, who had come outside, would take over this task from Sigmund, explaining that because he spoke the language of the children, Kurotori could mobilise them more efficiently.

As such, Eidren and Sigmund would follow Charles out of the village, approaching the river. Charles guided by music, and Sigmund by Eidren. In the distant, they found a small creature, as tall as the children it had attempted to kidnap, that played a small flute. Yet it was clearly inhuman; it's skin was slimy and green, it's beak was akin a duck's and it wore a lilypad on it's head. It walked backwards, and the closer it got to the river, the more transparent the image of the creature became. As did Charles' body, as he got closer to the creature and it's flute. It was as if they were crossing into some other plane...
Certain GM-styles attract and repel certain players. There'd need to be at least some overlap for it to work. When I was in Kadaeux' games for example, a big deal was that players controlled a ton of NPC's and had a dozen of resources to manage which gives them the freedom to create and pursuit their own character arcs (albeit within a system with a number of dices.) A lot of my players in the Library would likely be confused with such a style. Meanwhile, for the Library I like to work with smaller, more intimate scales which focus more on putting down one-at-a-time challenges to tackle, which might make people who flock to Kad's games feel limited. We'd both just be working with storytelling posts, but the implications made by these go beyond the writing style. If our playerbases were the same, they'd probably be able to switch without a hitch, but because they're so different it'd take a lot of trial and error. Past what I think is doable in a few weeks.

I think guest-GM'ing would require a certain amount of overlap in style. You wouldn't let a free GM randomly switch it up with an advanced GM because their players have completely different expectations. With storytelling posts you give your players. besides plot, a certain amount of space and a number of expectations. Familiarity, as mentioned before, would also be a huge boon. It could work and I agree it could be interesting, but I can't help but be kinda sceptical when I try to come up with concrete examples.
No.
Ruby said would you ever consider having a 'guest GM'?

I've found that I'm horrible at sharing GM-ship. However should I consider it, this would require a large amount of trust and familiarity. As for the first, there are only very few people I've seen capable of keeping an RP alive and a lot more claiming they can but ultimately failing to do so. Also the picking up the pieces-part isn't something that terribly excites me. As far as familiarity goes, you establish a style in a long-standing game; something players are used and drawn to. For example, I couldn't take over Kadaeux' Star Wars game, and I don't think he'd be able to substitute for the Library. Our styles are simply too different.

The second is more focused; would you ever consider inviting a RPer into your game (presuming the same as the above) to do 'spot work'; a villain here, an NPC there? If so, why? If not, why not?! I'd absolutely love to do 'spot work' for other peoples games.

This would moreso be an option because it doesn't deal with power or as much responsibility. I've not done it, but it'd take some strain off the invitee in comparison to the guest-GM-ship. There would still be trust and familiarity requirements, but you'd work closer with these persons rather than just throwing them in the deep and expecting everything to go well.

HERE COMETH THE WOLVESAfter I get my next post up, I will ask you all to lock in your decision of where you are going. Wrap up your questions. Saul will be heading out already.Below are your locations, keep in mind who knows where what is. If a character in the party is not yet aware of the location, you will need one of the NPCs who do to lead the way. Currently, the two half-breeds are available to lead the party around. - [All discovered] <<Start Location, part of the Market district - [All discovered] <<Current location - [All guards know] <<The medical examiner/doctor's location - [Guards and Jellial know] <<Lycan base - [Guards and Jellial know] <<Base of the lizardfolk and Varro's location, Saul and Rexel heading there - [Only Rexel knows]

Since Saul is already sent to Varro, I think Esyllt will likely be tagging along with Jellial.

I made this because of the topic of bullying that people are talking about. People everywhere can be bullied, schools, work, and even at home.

Talk about which side you're on. Are you against bullying or support it or you just don't give two shits? Be nice to everyone now, no bullying within this post.

I disapprove of bullying, but as the saying goes; give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. I think anti-bullying campaigns that try to fight the bullies and cuddle the victims are doing nothing but teaching poor life lessons where these movements should be focused on teaching kids how to deal with bullying. It's sort of like trying to teach vipers not to bite rather than a person who goes into an area with vipers how to avoid them.

Of course then we have the whole victim-blaming bullshit discussion going on, with people who are more concerned about political correctness than solving a problem. Thankfully that hasn't shown it's ugly face in this topic yet.

Anyhow. Generally one should make their selves unattractive to bullies as a target. Either by tuning them out as in HeySeuss' example, or in case of physical bullying wait for them to be alone and have an iron rod ready to bash their head in stand up for yourself and fight back. You might not win, but a couple black eyes are a surprisingly good incentive to switch targets for a bully.
Yup.

Completely true. Most of the major plot points in Three Worlds before Guilddeath? Complete improvisation because of what you all did. Worked out better than I expected to be perfectly honest. XD

I learned this lesson the harshest way possible, when a player killed the guy I intended to be the main antagonist in an old RP of mine. Yeah, so... That was a thing. I hadn't established him to be, in fact I was trying to defer people from suspecting him, but sort of left him, a non-combatant (with the flu) alone with a brutish mercenary. I turned the whole darn plot around ;p Amusingly enough, nobody even noticed until I told them at the end of the RP.

I work and go to school. I still have plenty of time to pay attention to the RPs. >.>

That's great for you, but other people may have different habits or priorities. Pushing people in advanced rarely works, and I think I speak for a lot of players here when I say that we write and relax at the same time, rather than feel a rush to post. Pressure that kinda mentality, and it'll only demotivate players and delay posts.
