The Vigilance is an advanced FSA, or Federation System Alliance, Chevalier-Class Battlecruiser. The Chevalier-Class ships are a new breed of space faring flotilla, capable of atmospheric reentry and armed with the nuclear powered "IWDS," or Intergalactic Warp-Drive Systems. The six Chevalier-Class Battlecruisers are the ship of the line, built out of a necessity to defend the Human Empire to the furthest reaches of the universe. The Vigilance is manned by a crew of 8,000, including a fixed interceptor wing and the 122nd Landermarine Regiment numbering approximately 1,500 in strength. The Vigilance is tasked with patrolling the far reaches of the Federation, protecting the outer rim and exploring the vast unknown.
Living on the VigilanceAs the Vigilance is deployed on a five year tour throughout several star systems, living accommodations needed to be adequate in order to keep morale positive. The Vigilance docks once every six months to resupply basic provisions, but the ship can last well over a year without docking if required. This docking procedure may be more frequent if the battlecruiser needs to rearm or undergo advanced repairs. The Vigilance provides spacious living quarters for its crew of 8,000 enlisted personnel and officers. Officers are provided with a small, personal quarters while six enlisted personnel would share a slightly larger room. Like a military base, there are several areas aboard the ship where basic necessities can be purchased.
Fighting on the VigilanceThe Vigilance's main combat capabilities are centered around the Aurelian Industries Type 57 "Liberator". The Liberator is a massive, 450mm Hyper-acceleration Turbolaser battery capable of causing immense destruction in space. When aimed towards a planet, the weapon has the capability of sending a projectile straight through a planet's atmosphere, leveling an entire metropolis with a simple volley. Its very existence was one of the most controversial topics within the government during the Vigilance's construction, with many people opposed to the simple, destructive firepower that it possesses.
Aboard the Vigilance are numerous Anti-Aircraft batteries, which are primarily used to defend the ship against smaller craft. Despite this, the batteries are still strong enough to punch a hole in any frigate or ship smaller than a Battlecruiser.
Inside, multiple armories allow for the maintenance and distribution of weapons. While the Landermarines may carry their rifles with them at all times, explosive ordnance needs to be kept in these armories for safety reasons. The Landers frequent these armories to stay well-equipped for combat operations. Other personnel must register their weapons and adhere to strict weapon regulation policies when carrying them on their person for safety reasons.
The Vigilance is capable of making simple repairs to the interior and exterior of the ship. In the event of a breached hull, several sections of the ship may be cut off using airlocks to prevent catastrophic damage to the inside of the ship. All personnel are provided with basic space survival gear, including a space suit that would allow them to survive for up to sixty minutes outside of the ship.
"In Hoc Signo Vinces"
(By This Sign We Will Conquer)Attached to the Vigilance is the 122nd Federation Landermarine Regiment. Landermarines, or "Landers" are a quick reaction combat force tasked with assisting and defending the Vigilance on combat operations. They are the boots on the ground, the trigger fingers and the flesh and bone of the Navy. Landers specialize in a highly advanced form of conventional warfare and require substantially more training than the combat personnel of other branches.
Cybernetic Warfare -Landers specialize in an advanced form of warfare known as Cybernetic Warfare. Where a conventional army would win with superior firepower, numbers and strength, the Landers are masters of using their advanced technology against the enemy. Their electronic systems allow them to interface and hijack entire ships from the inside. They can employ both soft-kill radar jammers and hard-kill short range electromagnetic pulses while also deploying unmanned combat vehicles and scouting drones. Because of their affinity for technology, Landers pride not only strength, but intelligence as well.
Close Quarters Warfare -While they have many toys at their disposal, the Landers often find themselves right on the firing line. Trained and drilled in CQB environments, they are masters when fighting in the confined quarters of a spaceship or colony. Demolition training allows them to detonate fatal, ship crumbling explosions and advanced hand to hand and combat training allows them to sweep entire ships quickly and methodically.
The Mk. 1 Exoskeleton System-If the Landers are known for anything, it is for their common use of prototype Exoskeleton technology. While not fully encased, the exoskeleton provides slight reinforcement and protection across the body. This gives the Landers near-superhuman speed, strength and agility when powered by the suit. The main drawback to this system is that it requires a sizable amount of power, a charge giving a Lander less than five hours of combat effectiveness. It is because of this that the Landers must strike swiftly and violently. The system is also equipped with numerous tech devices, including thermal imaging systems, heads up displays and more.
The Exoskeleton will also allow survival in zero gravity environments for up to sixty minutes. The suit is not capable of atmospheric reentry.
"Aut Vincere Aut Mori"
(Conquer or Die)Attached to the Vigilance is the 53rd Fighter Wing, a unit comprised of two, 14 craft squadrons for a total of 28 fighters. The fighter wing deploys the HI-10 Whirlwind Interceptors, the newest generation of fighter developed by Aurelian Aerospace. The Whirlwind is a single pilot, short take off interceptor tasked with maintaining air-superiority,
(or space) and escorting the Vigilance on combat operations. The main drawbacks of the Whirlwind are its lack of weapon space and armor plating, priding itself on incredible speeds and maneuverability. To make up for the lack of armor, the Whirlwinds are the first fighter craft to have advanced shield-generation capabilities, allowing the fighter to be partially protected from some damage. This allows the Whirlwind to remain swift, but still be adequately protected during close engagements.
In response to its lack of weapon space, the HI-10 Whirlwinds are outfitted by the pilot with a variety of combat packages before sortie. This allows the Whirlwind to excel in a multitude of roles, from air-superiority to close-ground support and even the bombing of enemy frigates. In extremely rare cases, the Whirlwind Interceptors are capable of delivering nuclear warheads to eviscerate a priority target. A short range nuclear delivery would ensure that the warhead would slip past a ship's anti-aircraft defenses and detonate successfully.
Advanced navigation systems and great engine efficiency out of its turbo-engines give the Whirlwind great operational length. It can out-maneuver any aircraft currently developed and can supercruise at a speed exceeding Mach 2.5 in gravity environments. Very few Whirlwinds are currently in service due to how new the craft is, and currently there is no combat record for them as they have yet to be fielded in a combat environment.
